with a 45 MP sensor and all the amenities of the R5 II: instant buy for me, at last a normal sized ungripped mirrorless!5DmkV![]()
It's already in development. I think it's a 2025 product, but that's all I can say publically at the moment.
Let see...
- 24MP sensor? Tick
- RF mount? Tick
- Retro styling with more knobs and buttons? Tick
The only thing to guess and speculate about is the name.
I think lenses have to be considered, I'm not sure how many "retro" styled lenses they'd want to release, or any at all. I guess they could take a few current lenses and put them in a new housing. That doesn't seem very Canon though.
Yes small lenses with an aperture ring would be great!I know it's a stretch but New F-1 style with interchangeable EVFs would be cool! Like a \"waist-level\" screen, and a traditional EVF would be so cool. It would be so good at street photography, especially when paired with the aperture-ringed VCM lens(es). If an even smaller set of primes (with aperture rings) would also be released like the Sigma I-series lenses, Sony G prime trio, or Fujichron lenses, then I feel like Canon can address a new set of customers.
Either way, I am excited for Canon to try this concept!
It makes a lot of sense to me. I want it. Thx. Looks and the ease of setting the shutter and exposure compensation without getting into menu has an appeal for me.Ok, but why? Like the ergonomics are much better now, what\'s the appeal other than just looks? To me it doesn\'t make sense
First of all, this is your opinion. Other opinions might differ from yours, mine, for instance does. And we are both right with our opinion!Ok, but why? Like the ergonomics are much better now, what\'s the appeal other than just looks? To me it doesn\'t make sense
I set shutter and exposure compensation while looking through the viewfinder (evf) using the dials without going into menu. And you can see what the exposure compensation is doing while you are turning the dials. It makes a lot of sense to me. I want it. Thx. Which current Canon camera requires you to go into a menu for shutter or EC?!??It makes a lot of sense to me. I want it. Thx. Looks and the ease of setting the shutter and exposure compensation without getting into menu has an appeal for me.
This is what Wikipedia says about opinions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip...There is an old adage, one, and they all stink.First of all, this is your opinion. Other opinions might differ from yours, mine, for instance does. And we are both right with our opinion!
Many vintage cameras had excellent ergonomics, some new ones not necessarily (think Sony, or those tiny camera bodies). You could often see from above, distance, ISO, aperture and shutter speed, without having to press buttons or looking through the EVF.
With a well done vintage design, there mustn't be a contradiction between classic and ergonomics. And, don't underestimate the importance of looks, or did you buy your car without paying attention to design?
A digital Canon looking like a Canon F1 or, why not, a Canonet? Anytime, please!
Have you looked at the R8? It is a lot smaller than the R5, especially when used with the 28mm lens.I am getting older, so taking my entire camera bag with me on hikes is getting to be a challenge. I would like to see a smaller and lighter RF compatible body from Canon. Could be retro, could be fixed lens, but should be RF mount. If RF mount then let 3rd party manufacturers fill the space of 'small, retro looking lenses with aperture rings' product space over time. I have been considering adding a camera from a 3rd party manufacturer to fill this need (Sony a7CII or A7Cr) but really would prefer not to do that.
Hello Canon, PLEASE give us a smaller and lighter digital full frame option with excellent image quality like my R5!

Personally, I’d still like an even smaller body, preferably without EVF. But until that gets announced, the R8 is my go-to compact body.
This confirms that they are playing with the idea of a digital camera, not film.If we would revive that in digital format or not is a different topic.
In Japanese singular and plural is the same. So, could this mean separate from the EOS models?but that will be separate from the current model and will be addressed in a different way
