help from 1Ds MkIII owners!

I tried everything in the attempt to remove the extended system terminal on my 'new' 1Ds MkIII, without any result. Since it is made of plastic, no chance to try by hard tools, but the finger grip is not enough. Any trick? Must it removed with a anticlockwise rotation?

Yes, anti clockwise, it has a screw thread. Try putting a computer mouse pad between it and your thumb, and just push in and turn extra hard.

Thanks a lot, macfly... Unfortunately it seems glued... After chewing a couple of mouse pad, it is still rock solid in place. I can't image what's happened. A little drop of Wd40 or CRC is safe enough in its location?

You could try a little drop of WD40, but I'm not sure it'll help, it'll likely make the part you're trying to get a grip on more slippy. If it really won't budge I'd use a dremmel tool to cut a coin slot in it. Of course you'll want to order a new one for when you sell the camera, but it sounds like you're at the point where the thing isn't coming off without damage, so the best way forward is managing the damage.

It might just aswell be glued, those caps are notorious for getting loose on it's own. That's why if you have 1d(s)3 and still have the cap in place, it's either glued or lost. My mkIV has a different rubbertype now.

The reason for glueing is obvious, very few use the terminal. but almost all of the owners take their camera out into moist conditions and heavy rain.

Try using a small flathead screwdriver in one of the bumps (do not know the english word for that ) in the cap and push slow and hard.

But be very, very careful, because if you slip you'll scratch the body badly, and that will be both ugly and expensive!

...mmm... not so sure about that! 1Ds are sturdy machines, but as any black finished apparel, they are aestethically very delicate....

You are right! Top objects have the tendency to get scratches and other damages on the very first days, just to spoil your pleasure, then they freeze in that state. Obviously the reason is that you need to get used to the new tool and to the way to handle it... But this is quite sad! -)

I'm not a 1DsMkIII owner but I've solved a similar problem by wrapping a piece of coarse sandpaper round the handle of a wooden spoon. Might be worth a try.
