Increase File Name Sequence from 8 Characters

Hey, I know first off it has to be software compatibility, but it's now 2023. The file names in the canon camera are 8 character IMG_#### and they flip at 9999.
would it be that huge of an issue if they upgraded the camera firmware to increase the Seq # from 4 digits to 7 or 8 digits? With Digitial files names this would be great help for sport shooters? etc.. I use the seq # to know how many flips of the shutter I've taken per camera. I use format R62A####. But then use a third-party app to rename files adding 3 leading numbers to my files before I import them into my edit software. Just a thought?

No doubt it's possible. Canon does not seem inclined to do so, but you can certainly ask them directly (e.g. call support). Personally, where you have your 2A, I have _# where I start the # with a zero and increment it manually when the camera rolls past a 10K milestone. The _ can also be replaced if/when I hit 100,000 shots on a camera.

Hey I was looking back and now its two years later sine I made the original post Yes I use the file name R62A & R62B to separate my two bodies. My Camera teacher uses Sony and they support 5 digits.
But I use Bulk rename Utility to rename files after I copy to HD. Was hoping Canon would up the game. I will Call support and see what they say.

I called canon support and talked to tech. we chatted and he said he would forward on the request. hey even 1 extra digit. heck the sony has 5 digits

1 extra digit would make a world of difference for the way I use my camera, especially now that I can use 40fps, getting to 9999 takes a lot less time now than before.

Assuming you’re not also shooting a 6DII DSLR, then 62A#xxxx and increment the # from zero, gets you to 100,000 shots. If you don’t have an R6, drop the leading 6 for two ## and you get a million shots.

that would work and is better that 9999
