If it has a global shutter any autofocus would be “ground breaking”Sounds promissing.
If AF is that „groundbreaking“ I think I‘ll wait for it to trickle through to the cheapo R5 II bodies

Global electronic shutter? No need for mechanical shutter.

I still wonder what has prevented Canon from alternating horizontally and vertically oriented Dual Pixels?Sounds like quad pixel AF.
It could be much more difficult to manufacture such pattern. I'm not an expert thoughI still wonder what has prevented Canon from alternating horizontally and vertically oriented Dual Pixels?
You just tell it what you want and send it out to take pictures. How can focus better than R5 and R6? It will focus even before you push the button? If focus where you point your eye in the evf? Lol
8K - you must be kidding, 8K is so old fashioned! 16K more likely! Or perhaps just 8K with no heating issues ;-)
Always loved the eye focus control in my EOS 3 film bodies but doubt you will see it in R1 body. Never have understood why no bodies since the EOS 3 have had this great feature, employable when wanted. How can focus better than R5 and R6? It will focus even before you push the button? Second half of 2021 will probably be after the Tokyo Olympic games, then.
I imagine this thing will have a large battery to power everything.
