The forum will be moving to a new domain in the near future (canonrumorsforum.com). I have turned off "read-only", but I will only leave the two forum nodes you see active for the time being.

I don't know at this time how quickly the change will happen, but that will move at a good pace I am sure.

Let's see some great shots taken with old, cheap gear!

My brother shot these in Burkina Faso with my old 10D and an 18-55 kit lens (with the EF-S bit hacked off):

Love this one, with the child mimicking the camera.

Yeah, it's one of his favorites too. The kids there really get a kick out of just about anything they can really play with as most of their "toys" are usually bits of things that are too broken to fix or otherwise be made useful. My brother brought a few deflated soccer balls along with him when he went down there & pumped them up & gave them out as prizes for the best grades in school, & he was a hero for it (well that & plenty of other cool stuff he did but you get the idea). Being a good Southerner he also taught them how to fry chicken :-).

Another interesting thing about that trip was that most of the candid shots he was able to take were of kids, not just because he was working at a school, but because older folks in some of the more remote villages believe that cameras steal your soul, whereas the kids love the attention & are very curious. Once he took a few shots from the car while they were driving through a village & someone chased after them shouting & waving his arms for about a mile before giving up.

Well, after seeing some of the posts in this thread, I'm rather hesitant to contribute myself :-\

All of these were taken on my first camera, a Rebel Xsi. What a trusty camera she was, I swear it metered better than my newer bodies.

This is composed of 16 different images stitched together in photoshop.

In light of all these stunning images, I'm suddenly feeling inept :D I dug up some old photos taken with a Canon G3. Can you say 4 megapixels, bee-yotch ;D? Looking at the date stamp on the files, I think these images coincide with when I first starting taking photo classes. As you can probably tell, I barely knew how to hold the damn camera :)

And here's one of my first shots taken with the 20D in my backyard. I'd like to think my eye for light and composition has improved since then! It has a rather amateur two-dimensional lameness to it :)

Love the thread, thanks!

Rebel XT with old Metz flash.
How about the DR huh?
Judging from blown off highlights from the Diii in the pictures above, not bad...

Great shot! How do you get the flash to pop right as the projectile is hitting the tomato?

Thanks,
Some time a go (6-7 years?), I have bought on line simple sonic trigger, with just two adjusting knobs, one for gain (small computer microphone) and delay.
It was sold by Quaketronics.com, not sure if they are still available, but it worked fine for me.

Hi everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster - just had to get into the mix. This is a fantastic topic ;D

Talk about 'gear' - the first pic was taken a couple of yeas ago in Morocco with my Sony Ericsson Satio phone. I wasn't even into photography then.

The second picture was taken in Abu Dhabi with the 'cheap' 600D and 'old' Tamron 17-50 (non VC).

I have a lot to share but these I could dig out since they're already compressed.

This is a great topic! I registered too just for this one, have been lurking around for a bit longer...

Sunset (Canon 20D, Sigma 28-300), as-shot JPEG.

Orion from the surfer's tower (Canon 40D, Canon 28/1.8), as-shot JPEG

Yes, the sea is frozen during the winter here :)

A view from the Great Wall (Canon 20D, 18-55 mk.I), cropped from the original that was taken 2007.

Looks a bit clichéd now.

Illuminated water fountains (Canon 40D, Canon 50/1.4), taken at F/1.4 and 1/20, ISO800.

I don't have fond memories of Sigma 28-300 or Canon 18-55, otherwise it has been pretty good.

Just curious... isn't the idea of this thread is to post images made FAIRLY RECENTLY with older/cheap gear we still currently use?
There are some cool shots here, but I think it's lame if you are rummaging through your archives to find your mom's favorite photo.

I don't think its lame at all. Why should it matter when it was taken? I think the coolest thing posted on here was the two photos of the bridge taken 10 years apart with an old/new camera. Really neat comparison.
