Now that I have a 1D X, Should I Sell my BG-E11 Grip (that fits the 5DIII)?

I'm not sure if anyone else owns the 1D X and 5DIII + BG-E11 grip, but I'm wondering how much I'll use the grip now that I have the 1D X and wonder if it's worth keeping it or not. I foresee the 5DIII being more of a back up / landscape lens now and I wonder if I'll keep the grip on it much. Any thoughts?

I like my 7D with grip, wish I'd done it a long time ago, I like having the controls for portrait orientation. However due to the flexibility of the battery grip it is advisable to remove it for tripod work so if your landscapes will be taken from a tripod ditch it, if you hand hold your landscapes it becomes purely personal preference.
Not much help maybe, but just my thoughts on it.

I use the 5DIII either when I want something smaller and lighter or when I shoot low ISO, manual focus (TS-E or Otus), often on a tripod, with RRS L-bracket. For everything else I use the 1DX. The grip was collecting dust for a number of months, so I sold it. No regrets.

That's sort of what I was thinking, too. I foresee the 1D X becoming my primary body unless I need more megapixels or a smaller camera and in both cases, I think I can live without the grip. I've got it and the RRS L-bracket, so that's a fair amount of money tied up in something that isn't likely to see as much action going forward.

Graham, I appreciate your feedback as well, and I really like gripped bodies, too, and have had one on every model I've owned with the exception of the 5DII (I'm not sure why I didn't buy one). Now that I have one with a grip built-in, however, I'm questioning the need for two large camera bodies.

Ken, thanks for the reply and on #1, that's what I did with my 70-200 f/4 IS when I bought the 2.8 II IS and it didn't take long to make up my mind to sell the f/4 IS. I miss it some, but not $1100 worth

I'm trying to find reasons to keep it, but haven't really come up with any compelling reasons I need it now that I have the 1D X. I plan on using the 5DIII as a back up body and for landscape & architectural work or times when I'm traveling or need a smaller body. None of those require extra battery or vertical grip convenience.

I'll PM you on the price.

ktatty, thanks for the reassurance as my grip and RRS L plate are on their way to Ken B as I type this...

Unless I really need the extra megapixels, I'm sure the primary use for my 5DIII will be as a backup and travel body - both times when a grip isn't needed and the smaller size/lighter weight of the 5DIII will be nice. Of course the (removable) grip gives you the best of both worlds on the 5DIII...

the 5d with the 40mm 2.8 is a great travel set up- especially all day with kids at Disney. I usually take the 28 mm 2.8 or the 40 2.8 in those situations.

That makes sense and I'm finding that the 5D with a single prime is the way to go for me, too, when I travel.
