I have the "old" 90 t/s and wondering just how off the planet the updated optics must be to justify the price.

Not likely to make my GAS act up at this pricing

The TS-E prices are in line with previous TS-E lens introductions, and prices do tend to drop over time. I would not upgrade a TS-E 90. Prices for used ones are likely to rise, that's typical as well.

Boy you guys in North America have nothing to complain about regarding the pricing these are UK prices (with sales tax)

EOS M100 body only £ 449.00
EOS M100 & 15-45mm £ 569.00

EF 85mm f1.4L IS USM £ 1,569.00 (EF 85mm f1.2L II USM £ 1,767.00, EF 85 f1.8 USM £ 327.00)
TS-E 50mm f2.8L Macro £ 2,499.00
TS-E 90mm f2.8L Macro £ 2,499.00 (TS-E 90mm f2.8 £ 1,239.00)
TS-E 135mm f4L Macro £ 2,499.00

Clearly Canon are pushing up the price of L series with the launch of newer optics, the pricing of the EF 85mm f1.4L IS USM is in the UK just £ 202.00 less expensive than the f1.2 lens and way above the f1.8 lens. The TS-E 90mm f2.8L Macro is a whopping £ 1,260 more expensive than the existing TS-E 90 i.e. more than double the price.

With the purchase of the 6D MKII, EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM II and the EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM II (just purchased) in the last couple of months my Canon purchases are done for 2017 especially at the prices above, but I'm going to be really interested in the performance of the EF 85mm f1.4L IS USM could be a 2018 purchase.

I was really hoping that rumoured price of twin light was wrong, but damn its just too expensive.

Pretty outrageous pricing, considering it's an unimaginative tweak to the old one to include a modern charging circuit and radio remote.

As far as I can tell, no fix for the poor diffusion properties of the heads, which are too small. (There's no getting around physics there.) And no fix for the heads being too close to the lens axis with longer macro lenses.

Olympus addressed the cost/volume problem on these items decades ago with their twin/ring flash system for the film OM system. You could plug in either twin flash heads or a ring flash head into the same control unit. But we've known since the new Canon macro ring light came out that they weren't going to do anything so sensible.
