Post your shots from Canon's first non-L lens reaching 400mm. The lens is light enough to bring along while traveling but delivers image quality nearly as good as the RF 100-500, at a surprisingly low price.

For many, this will be a great lens for birds and wildlife, and with the close minimum focus distance yielding a 0.41x magnification at just under 1 m, it's also great for insects. Although not a common subject for a long lens like this, my main use of it so far has been landscapes.

I'm a big fan of this lens, it performs so much better than the specs suggest it should. Here are a few shots I've taken this year with mine which I don't think I've shared elsewhere on the forum.

1. Meadow pipit environmental portrait. R6, RF100-400+1.4x extender; 560mm, f/11, 1/2000, ISO 3200.

2. Hoverfly Eristalis horticola on field scabious. R6, RF 100-400; 400mm, f/8, 1/250, ISO 400.

3. Unseasonal autumn bramble flower. R6, RF100-400; 300mm, f/8, 1/125, ISO 800.

With the weather going below freezing here, I checked if the R8+100-400 would fit in a pocket:

And that was very fortuitous, I came across a kingfisher during this afternoon stroll:

That’s an 8MP crop run through DxO, which introduced some artifacts in the feathers.
Nice catch! He also looks cold.

A few more from this year. It's a handy lens for picking out tight "landscape" shots to remove distractions. I couldn't actually get into the wood with all this wild garlic, but the longer focal length allowed me to pick out nice views from the road. The poppies were in a park, so the background was unappealing.

R6, RF 100-400, RF 1.4x extender; 140mm, 1/160s, f/13, ISO 1600.

What a cr*p lens - you can see how soft it is at the extreme edges, made even worse by the extender. ;)

Finally got mine. Even though it was a cloudy winter day, F/8 was fine, I actually darkened some in post. 100A9658_DxO_PL7_full.jpg100A9658_DxO_PL7_b-400.jpg
It's a little soft because of the tree branches but the bricks are sharp at the corners. I think the ef 100-400L 4.5-5.6 ii would have been confused by the branches

The plants are out of focus enough and the water turned out nicely. I think at 400 even 5.6 would have been too blurry to catch the ripples.
Something really nice is it just barely fit in my pocket.

You took your time Eric - it's what I said about the RF 100-400mm over two years ago: Everyone should have one!
Here are my impressions of the lens

I remember. I tend to wait until my feeling of needing or wanting becomes irresistible. In this case, I could not decide if I wanted the 100-500 or this one and my family can be judgmental when they ask about a new lens and they think it's too similar to another one. Even if I buy a low priced body or lens for another family member that wanted to start taking better pictures than their phone, they like to assume I spent too much money.
