I bought the recently-launched RF 24/1.4L mainly for astrophotography, though I haven't had the opportunity for that use case yet. I did bring it on a recent trip to San Francisco.

Probably most are aware, but this is another lens that requires distortion correction to fill in the corners. On the upside, after correction (with DxO PL) if not constrained to the original aspect ratio, the image ends up about 8% wider (6492 x 4000 output from the 24 MP R8 sensor).

Did you ever get out and use it for astrophotography, would love to see how you got on as tossing up between the 20mm VCM & 24mm VCM.

There's a lot of good priced new 24mm here in Oz due to them being a bonus with new Canon cameras, so are being on-sold.

Honestly, I don’t use the 24/1.4 VCM and I should probably sell it. I think Canon was clever to launch them in the order they did. I would not have bought the 24/1.4 if the 20/1.4 was available, I use the 20mm and 14mm VCM lenses far more frequently.
If money. was no object then I wouldn't have a problem, but with the 24mm being $1300 for new against the 20mm at $2250 it's a BIG difference in cost. Of course would prefer the 20mm but just wondering if I could get away with the 24mm for Astro / Mikly Way shooting.
