IMO this lens has deserved more attention because it is ...
- lightweight and compact
- has f/1.8 for some separation with good bokeh (= non-disturbing, organic)
- has f/1.8 + 5-stop IS for low light
- has @f/1.8 very good center IQ and good corner IQ +
has @f/4.0 excellent IQ over all of the frame (contrast, color & texture fidelity)
- has 1:2 macro / closeup functionality which is unique (AFAIK) and very attractive for me who
disliked the "clonk" while trying to get close enough from my FD lens days
- has the unique combination of all mentioned features as a GOOD compromise
- is well suited for video (except the often-mentioned noise of its STM drive but an external
microphone helps.
One downside is the heavy vignetting wide open but in most situations I like it because it draws attention to the main subject.
