Show your Bird Portraits

Nice shot, shire guy. I like the pose of the bird. Is it looking for the water level? (recent flooding)

Thank you Click

Oops, I have lost track of time. The flood that caused that (roughly chest high where the bird was) was about 4 months ago. There was another flooding event in January but it wasn't that big. Unfortunately the area in question is my most visited birding spot and has been hit with successive floods (18 I think) thru 2022. But it is a National Park so little damage as such, unlike other areas here and overseas.

The bird was on the ground and I think he just jumped up for a better view of his next meal - and photo opportunity ;)

Thanks Click! Hmmmm... I think you overestimate my knowledge! I have my own problems with some species, especially from the Old World Warblers... Sometimes it's really frustrating!
I knew about the different length of the claws. But my quick and dirty web searches didn't provide which claws and the relative difference.
So your knowledge was really helpful and informative. And I will keep that in mind forever.
Thank you very much, @ISv.
BTW nobody knew when I was asking before.

It seems that the birds know about my long lean period of bad weather.
Again I met a treecreeper and thanks to @ISv now I know that it is a common treecreeper (certhia familiaris).
And it enjoyed breakfast without letting me disturb it :)
BTW: Don't ask me, what ring/round structure is in the bark. I only saw it during PP
5D4, 100-400LII+TC@560mm, f/8, 1/250, ISO1600 and cropped down to 2100x1400 for all

Our smallest bird, the Goldcrest today (R5/100-500mm). Those are 1:1 pixel crops at 5.8m away and still tiny. He showed off his crest for me.

Nice shots Alan! What is that pink thing in the background - your pinky;) ?!!!

5.8 meters are too far for that bird but you still have good detail!

I have 5.8m long arms - careful when you meet up with me in the jungle. Not bad detail for a 500mm zoom - no sharpening applied other than the standard PL6 that comes with the RAW conversion. At that distance, the 500 PF is at its best and difficult to beat.

Kudos to you on these photos, haven't seen better photos of tree creeper ever! Always hiding on the other side of the trunk, agile and in the deepest shade...

Thank you very much for your kind words.
I was shooting with 1/250 and didn't expect one photo sharp at best.
So this sequence made me really happy.
Did you recognize that little spot between the beak in pic 3 and 4?
Whatever that was, catching and eating it was too fast for 1/250. (I suppose some Insect or spider)
