Absolute pleasure this evening. Three Great Spotted Woodpeckers suddenly appeared for a minute on the tops of two tall fir trees in my back garden, and I had the R7 + RF 100-500mm with me. The photos showed, as the representative shots here, an adult female with no red on her nape, and deep red under her tail. The other two are juveniles with a full red crown and pale red under the tail - the first time I have ever seen juveniles. I have added an adult male which was on my feeder a week or so ago - probably part of this family. He has red at the nape and deep red under the tail (R5 + RF100-500mm).

Love the pics with the berries. I assume it's a cedar tree.

Among the last images obtained before departing for Hawaii were these:

These two appeared to be a mating pair and I thought I had obtained great images of the male feeding the female.
Sadly... waaaayyyyy out of focus.

...and the first decent bird pics on the North Shore of Kaua'i were these:

I had always seen the Red Crested Cardinal on Kauai but never the Northern Cardinal, that is until this year. I haven't seen these guys in over 20 years, since I moved from New England. Such a beautiful bird and such a vibrant red like the Red Crested Cardinal.

All taken at Fortress of the Bear, Sitka AK. All with R5, some with RF 70-200 f/2.8L, others with RF 100-500.
