Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines.

I won't have my camera yet....but for future shows in this same vein..what would be the better lens, and settings combination(s) to try to use to get some good and interesting pics of this moon?

the longest lens you can find, and put it on a 7d. 2x tele converter too.

Put it on the heaviest tripod you can find, and I'd say stop it down just a TINY bit, and use a reasonably low ISO. I'd probably go with 400?

I'd say slap that 100-400 on there with the 1.4x TC on the 7D thats like having a 840mm lens. Not too shabby!!

I'd stay sway from filters. In this case you don't want anything extra between you and your subject. If you want to do funky things with color do it in post. The only filter I could see you maybe wanting is an 8 point star filter to make points of light look cool if you do a city scape with the moon rising above it, but even then I think it might get distracting and you would be better off filter-less.

Make sure you post photos!! I'll be trying to get a good shot myself, but I only have a 70-200 2.8 IS L and FF. No TC or crop bodies, so I'll be shooting 200mm and you'll have a 840, You have the better equipment for this occasion! Good luck!

One other option, and i dont know how well it would turn out, is to get that one super cheap super telephoto lens made by bower. Its like $150 and a 1500mm or something. It would be crazy long on the 7d. Quality is crap, but you might be able to fill the frame with the moon.

Thats 3900mm on a 7d. CRAZY. Also very very very very very low quality. BUT for the moon, it just might turn out super awesome.

I'll be taking out the 400mm on the 7D.

Also considering taking a "moon trail" tonight ... anyone having any experience in doing this, if yes, any recommendations on how to go about it?
