Three new segments of EOS R cameras coming in 2025

I wrote c.o.c.k. - something turned it into 'penis'. I wonder what kind of spell checker...

very funny: if I edit the post I see the original word c.o.c.k, when saving it becomes 'penis' looks it's some 'AI' trying to turn a coarse word into a more acceptable one
I believe these software corrections tend to change things based on what is used frequently. :geek: So, on average photographs of roosters are less common than the other, right? No wonder these VR lenses sell well... ;)

Not all professional shoot soccer, and girafes… I don’t care about ISO 1040000, and ultra fast sequence… at a certains point if you need 24mpx at 60fps with motion blur, just buy a 8k video camera and don’t call yourself a photographer… if you need more than 8 fps to shoot action, just do another job, because I’ve been shooting action sport with flash for 25 years and never needed 20fps, but I need the highest sync speed with the flash … even 1/500s makes a HUGE difference, let alone 1/1000 or 1/2000s.

Amen!

There were a bunch of posts criticising this post from EDGERIDER, with one remarking about being gatekeeper. What it shows is those that spend more time sitting at home posting on CR than they spend taking photos.

What it shows is that some people understand that there are many types of photographers and they have different needs, while other people are foolish enough to believe they speak for others (or praise those who do so).

I would think anyone developing a 100 mp camera would take you concerns into consideration. That said, I've see Fuji and Hasselblad medium format users shoot handheld without any issue, so it can be done.
Medium Format gives you inherently better low light capability, and less pixel density, so you can crank that shutter speed and ISO up relative to full frame.

I'm sure there are many photographers that would be happy to see EDGERIDER speaking for them, so it would seem foolish to state that a person can only speak for themselves.

Are you speaking for yourself or do you believe that you are speaking for others? from here it looks like you believe that you're speaking for others, which would make you ....

Interesting. Apparently the forum software censors some words for penis, such as the one that can also mean a male chicken, tilting something, or the act of preparing a gun to be fired. Well, at least we can say doomed again. And we can use the word 'prick', when appropriate (e.g., in reference to puncturing something, such as an inflated ego).

When such once in a lifetime moments happen, any sensible photographer would want as many fps as possible. And this was not taken in a zoo. And it is an action photo. LOL

My dream camera:
EOS R body (with top LCD, slightly smaller than the R6)
More buttons (both rear wheel and arrow buttons like the 90D)
Three-level shutter button (heavier press for continues shooting or faster burst)
Insides like the R6ii (around 24 Mpix, IBIS, 10+ fps mech)
Pre-shooting possible to turn on/off with a single click or press and hold a button
Improved Fv mode (able to program all wheels for whatever I want)

If Canon wants to sell APS-C cameras, they need an actual lineup of APS-C lenses to go with them.

no but they need a credible 5-6 good lenses.

but they already have alot that service both sensor sizes. so they really don't need many more

STM 35mm F1.8, 50mm F1.8, 28mm F2.8, 16mm F2.8, all service both camera sensor sizes well enough.

What canon needs is a 15-45mm relatively compact as a kit lens, 18-45 is just an ugh.

an 15-150, or something of the sort, again, is far better than what they have now. kit lenses for APS-C should start at 15mm. there was a full frame 17-70mm patent application floating around that could work for both as well if it was cheap and compact enough.

After 7 (SEVEN!!) tries, i had myself a great copy of the EF-M 15-45. that was a good little walk around lens, i can't really see myself going back to an 18mm wide end - 80% of the time i was at 15mm.

100MP, gives me what, 38"x29" when printing at 300dpi. or 4'x3' at 240dpi. That might at least be big enough to not need to do panorama stitching for good size prints. Might.

depends on your lenses if your printing that critically. probably even want a tiltshift for that too. or focus stacking.

Why would I buy a Canon retro camera and not a Nikon retro camera?

Because it's a Canon ;) Canon really did make some great and revolutionary classic cameras that were quite groundbreaking at the time, it would be nice to revisit that legacy. But Nikon does make some great cameras - but then you'd need nikkors.

Here's what you need to do. Get yourself a Xiaomi 12T Pro smartphone, which has a 200 MP camera with 0.64 µm pixels. Put it behind this $90 20-40X phone camera zoom lens:

View attachment 220228

Now what you have is a 960mm lens with a 200 MP sensor. That's like having a 3000mm lens on your R7. That's REACH! Don't be bothered by all those naysayers talking about needing larger sensors for better image quality. You'll have way, way more reach than any of those fools using their pathetic APS-C cameras and thinking they have 'reach'.

;)

i actually want to try that now.

would 100mp be good for astro photography? I'm building a setup this coming year and trying to decide on a camera...

what type of astrophotography? astro landscapes?

it would be pointless. literally. the amount of time you'd have for star movement on a per pixel basis would be so short it would render all those pixels redundant - better off with an excellent ~24MP sensor and call life good. also more scanning the sensor would probably result in higher thermals.

if it's deep sky, planetary, etc - then get a dedicated cooled APS-C astro camera.
