What will the 650d sensor be like?

And I have to admit I was semi-wrong, there is indeed a minor upgrade with the phase detect af pixels on the sensor, though this is likely not to raise the iq over the well-known 18mp legacy sensor with the "multi image shot" noise reduction mode for jpeg.

So basically "the same sensor" was the correct correct prediction, one point for the Nikon trolls with their big money Sony tech - but Canon will keep coming and show them all! Or will they?

well if i could decide i would like to have the latest sony sensors tech in canon cameras... of course that is an utopic wish.

but i guess it will be the same old 18 MP sensor with some video improvements.

the sad thing is i can not even bothered to feel excited about a REBEL release anymore.
feels like olympus PEN updates.... same sensor tech and some updates i don´t care about.

video...bah.... filters and stuff.... bah.
better AF.. well nice... but not enough to sell my 550D backup body and buy a new camera.

The same 7D sensor I'd guess, the other specs seem like they'll be ebough to market the camera on, espeically the xxD AF being shifted down which takes it above the D3200 in that reguard.

Even if thats the case, thats 3 good upgrades. A sensor is nothing without a processor, so the same sensor with a digic 4, or the same sensor with the digic 5?

New lens? Hmm. Canons kit lenses are worthy but dull. Would love to see a brave move like a switchable IS (a soft IS mode for video) and who knows, maybe even a servo zoom (been done before on old 35-80)

it´s relative...

they will sure put a brake on the digic 5 so he will not output at full speed.
i don´t shoot JPG so better NR and co. is wasted on me.

im pretty sure the digic 4 would be good enough for the 650D and much of the digic 5 power is not even utilized.
so i guess digic 5 is just for the featurelist.

For better video compression, for maybe even hdmi out at a decent resolution.
I use my 7D and T3i a lot for video. So better high iso NR would be good.

For better AF, especially if there are more cross type points.

There seems to be a digic 5 and a digic 5+, I would guess the x0D's will get the '+'.

The same 18MP sensor as the 600D and 550D, but probably 9 (all cross-type) AF points.

Perhaps a half-stop better in ISO performance with the new Digic-5, plus slightly better fps.

Dual SD cards might be a nice enhancement, especially for video shooters.

Also manual audio controls (avoid AGC issues), a headphone monitoring socket (like new 5D3) would not cost much but would be a big marketing feature for enthusiast DSLR HD video shooters.

probably just a processor update can bring some video improvements:
* no more aliasing/moire, like in the 5D3
* IPB and all-I codecs, like the 5D3
* heavy NR applied by default and no-matter-what, 5D3-like but just not so high (clean ISO 3200?)

add AF microadjustment, and it's a great upgrade for stills shooters too (and yes: that feature should be present in absolutely every DSLR: it costs basically nothing, and anyone using AF and half-decent lenses just shouldn't touch a camera that doesn't have it)

Already present on most models launched since 7D, but frustratingly not 7D itself - 60D, 600D, 5D3, 1DIV, 1DX.

Hardly a new feature and can't see a backwards step to not featuring it.

that is why i wrote "relative".
for video shooter the digic 5 may show some improvements.
to be honest, i tend to forget that because im not intersted in video at all.

but i don´t see the benefit of a digic 5 for still shooters in a rebel body.
the digic 4 should have enough (still photography) power for such a 650D body, i don´t think canon will make it a speed beast.

It's a broad church pal. I don't use spot metering or PIC modes, but I don't grudge their presence for the folks that do.

... I did this poll because a few month ago, hopes were high for the 650d pioneering new sensor tech an whatnot. As it seems, it's now back to the usual Canon business :-(

Digic 4 please, it runs magic lantern right now. What's a Digic 5 good for w/o an updated af system using it like in the upcoming 70d?

I don't think Canon will add this to the xxxd series because the current 60d hasn't it. Maybe in the 700d after the 70d is released.

... last not least: The good thing about the 650d is that the 550d + dual lens kit is now sold for a bargain, so if anyone doesn't need the lukewarm new features it's a good time to get into Canon's 18mp budget dlsr line.

As I said the 60D AF beign shifted down with all 9 points being cross type seems like a pretty major upgrade to me, first time the Rebel line has had its AF upgraded in 6 years and actually moves it above the Nikon D3200 and the D5100.

They didn't say the 650d also inherits the f2.8+ sensitive center point, so I guess it's not the same af after all. And this might matter even on the rebel, because next to missing afma this is the second problem for using budget lenses like the 50/1.8.
