These seem to be fairly cheap on eBay
£24 for 2, £34 for 3 and £44 for 4

Or... are there better makes that I should go for?
Can someone give names and models

Also... I'm tempted to go for 4 at the prices given above - but will I ever need 4??

Thanks

Omar, you need to qualify your request.

what speedlites have you got? how much are you prepared to spend? what are you taking photographs off? ttl or manual sync?

I'm currently exploring this exact topic. I am doing a Canon Course 'On & Off Camera Flash'.

I'm about to spend $800+ on manfrotto light stands, umbrella, brackets & more brackets.

I'm probably going to dip my toes in with Youngnuo YN-622C triggers.

I second the 622 as well. Only downside of those is that they are fairly bulky. The eTTL support is really great if you have flashes that support it. They even work with my Sigma flashes. (something that did not work when directly connecting them onto my 7D)
If you don't need eTTL however I would look at something cheaper. I also have a set of Pixel Soldiers. They are a bit cheaper and much smaller yet get the job done just as well if you work with manual flashes only anyway. It would really help to get some more info on what you are planning to do with them.
