What's your acceptable price for the 1Dx

Most people consider the 1dx out for reach mainly because of the price tag.. so my question is..

What your RESONABLE price tag for the 1dx? (doesn't have to be within you budget.. it can still be too expensive for your spending but cheaper than the current price of $6800).

I've already booked mine from the days when it was announced.. (spoke to a friend at Canon).. unfortunately since it's a new, highly in demand camera.. the discount he gave me is quite negligible.. as opposed to discounts he gave me on my 7d and 5d2...

Although, I still want to know what the bit-rates on the video are going to be.

People have been cheerfully discussing (and by that I mean 'speculating wildly about') price since before they announced the thing in October. But after trying a 1DMkIV (and being hooked) I immediately started saving for its successor. $6800 for good kit with good resale value is my kind of gamble.

As far as I'm concerned, it should be available end of June as per my friend. He also said that mine is already reserved in their system to be dispatched from the warehouse to the canon office once it's available.. now I am aware that it's not under their control, but that's what he said... so I'm more than happy to belive that and get it then..

Yes, given that the 1Ds3 was at $8000.. I agree. but then again, quite a lot of the people who had the 1dx on preorder.. cancelled once the 5d3 was available.. stating that the price was reasonable (compare to the 1dx) with quite a lot of 1dx features built in it.

My first Canon camera was T2i. Sooner I upgraded to 5D2 and 7D because we had new baby. 5D2 is used for good IQ, and 7D is for high FPS.
For me 1DX and 5D3 are totally different cameras. 5D3 is like 5D2 with upgraded AF system; 1DX is designed for sports. Their markets should be very different.

So let's rephrase the OP's question for those people who own or might purchase the 5D3, as follows: Given a 5D3 price of $3500, how low would the 1Dx price have to be before you would have purchased a 1Dx instead? I own a 5D3 and my 1Dx price is $5500. Neuro's price is at or above $6800.

I know there has always been a lot of talk about the 1DX price. Personally if the camera can actually deliver the IQ promise and ISO performance we are all hoping for, then I am ok with the current price. Sure I would have preferred 6k or 5-6k, but really I dont think pricing $5k or 6.8K will impact sales that much if quality is there.

So if I was Canon I would be more concerned about IQ then pricing...They cannot miss the mark with a camera that has been announced almost a year ago when it hits the market!

If you use the camera on a daily basis and earn your living from it, the price is of little consequence. A tradesman who was here last week showed me his $500 cordless drill. That's a lot for a drill. He loves it. It's the best. He wouldn't settle for less. Same thing.

As someone who generally has 1-Series bodies, the delay in the 1DX release finally wore me down and I have now been working with a 5D3/BG-E11 alongside my 1D4. While the 5D3 is a good practical camera, it feels unrefined compared to 1-Series. The 5D series has bulked right up and with a BG-11 grip is taller, thicker, bulkier & 30 grams heavier than the 1D4. The ergonomics and performance of the 1-Series is in another universe. I'll pay the asking price.

I am quite happy with the current price tag and I have pre-ordered mine as well... think I even beat Neuro to it It's the shipping that is killing me, not the price tag - I have never spent this much on shipping and had to wait months to get it ;D

Given that Canon is, ahem, not rushing to get the 1Dx onto the market I'd be astonished if it was anything less than a winner in most respects. I say most, because nothing is perfect. We have had a good practical heads up on some of the 1Dx qualities and specs with the 5D3. With the usual 1-Series ergonomics, build quality and that feeling of being carved out of a solid lump of Unobtanium, if I were a betting man I'd be backing it into first place.

Fair price in Europe would be cheap NY price + round trip flights to JFK, because the 1DX retails for $7900 in Dublin

Seriously though, does it cost twice as much to produce a 1DX than it does to make a 5D3? Please ignore the incremental R&D expense as these ought to be amortised across the product range as components trickle down the product line, such as Digic5 chips, AF system, sensors etc. So if you accept the three and a half grand price tag of the 5D3 as 'fair' then a 1DX should cost no more than two grand more, say $5500 or thereabouts. The extra margin is probably a professional premium.

I'm sure for everyone that has already pre-ordered theirs.. are happy or to say the least, accepting of the price. I for one, was expecting an $8000 price tag and at $6800 (I convinced myself that it's a great deal).

However, I'm just wondering if a lower price tag would have more people pre-ordering the 1dx and not drop their 5d3 orders...
