There may be a lens launch for the T1/2000D in June.

Following Nikon and Sigma's lead, Canon could be ready to launch a replacement of their 35 f/2 and 50 f/1.4 lenses.

EF 35 f/1.8 USM

EF 50 f/1.4 USM

It was suggested there's a possibility the 35 may be an EF-S mount.

The 35L replacement will be coming with a pro body.

  1. Don’t we already have a EF 50 f/1.4 USM? Maybe the “II” is missing from the post above.

And what sense would 35mm make if it were an EF-S mount? Wouldn’t you rather get one of the EF 50s?

  2. 35/2.0 and 28/1.8 do that already. Obviously 35/2 has a very poor design, 5 aperture blades (yuk) but is way better built than the plastic 50/1.8 II (anyone remember the older version?). An update would be nice, though. I feel more strongly about 50/1.4 as I just don’t like / need such wideangles.

The question is would Canon release a truly good lens for an “entry level” market? I am afraid if 50/1.4 was an excellent performer very little people would buy the 1.2L

  3. They would buy the 1.2L if it wasn’t so dang squirrelly – they still have some tinkering to do on that one – fast, but all over the road.
