The world of Canon shooters has been talking about RF mount Sigma lenses for the last 5 years, and to a lesser degree, Tamron RF mount lenses. There have been numerous rumors in the past about Sigma announcing something…. anything in regards to RF mount lenses, but nothing has come to fruition yet.
As we have seen over the last few years, even Canon continues to have challenges producing enough lenses to meet demand, and perhaps Sigma is faced with the same challenges. They have continued to announce X-mount and E-mount lenses, and a few APS-C lenses for the Z-mount.
In a recent conversation that we had with an employee of a Sigma distributor in a certain country that we cannot name, we learned that February may finally be the month that we hear something from the Japanese third-party manufacturer. February is likely to be a big month for the RF-mount.
During the conversation, we learned that Sigma will likely show off, or at least talk about two RF/RF-S mount zoom lenses and a RF/RF-S prime lens early next year. The distributor hasn't been privy to the exact products Sigma plans to introduce, but they have been notified about the coming demand RF/RF-S lenses would bring.
We say RF/RF-S because we don't know if Sigma will be bringing full-frame or APS-C lenses when they finally enter the market.
We're not going to get into the RF-mount licensing process, because at the end of the day, no one really knows how all of that works outside of the manufacturers themselves. We imagine any negotiations or processes between Canon and third-parties are covered by an NDA.
We imagine at least a few of Sigma lenses released over the last year or two have been designed with the RF mount in mind. Below is a list of lenses Sigma has introduced this year, and a few of them would fit nicely into the RF lineup.
Sigma introduced 3 APS-C lenses for Nikon's Z-mount along with APS-C lenses for Fuji's X-mount. The new full-frame Sigma glass has been launched for E-mount and L-mount respectively.

We don't want to speculate on what sort of lenses Sigma will bring first to the RF mount, but we do suspect at least a couple of lenses above will be part of the initial lineup.

But they'll quickly find something else to criticize.
Does anyone want the SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art for RF as well?
But hey, you never know.
In the short run the most interesting stuff for my personal needs are the 85 f1.4 and a 35/40/50 f1.4 which are my most used lenses.
On an even shorter run, surely I'd love the Tamron 35-150 so I can ditch both 24-70 and 70-200 (here I would even consider to buy a brand new copy in 6/12 months from release, as going from a 2 lens setup to a single lens setup could be worth the immediate investment).
After doing that, finding something decent but cheap 18/20ish around f1.8/2 to complement the 35-150 and ditch the RF 16 which is too wide for what I do. The RF 24 STM would be just fine, but it's too close to 35mm, I need something wider, but not down to the actual 16mm. If Canon is re-doing a 20mm f2.8 and price is in line with 24/35 STM, I'll probably go with it, if there are no viable third party alternatives.
In the medium run I want to get again a 135 f1.8 as the Sigma is stellar and I really regret to have sold it, but if in 3/5 years a good used copy of the RF 135 is not far from Sigma's prices, I may well go for the Canon for the IS. I'll probably re-buy soon the Sigma in dslr mount (or the old EF 135 if I find a super cheap copy under 400€), and then will switch it to a ML mount lens as the last piece of equipment to do so.
Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from another Sigma’s messin' around
They say you got an RF lens
It’s out by February’s end
They're talkin' about you and it's bringin' me down
But I know the CR neighborhood
And talk is cheaper when the story is good
And the tales grow taller on down the line
But I'm telling you, babe
That I don't think it's true, babe
And even if it is, keep this in mind
You take the CR1, baby
If that's the way you want it, baby
Then I don't want you around
I don't believe it
Not for a minute
You're under the gun
So you take the CR1
:p
Not one single Sigma. And certainly not a plasticky Tamron.
I guess it ain't gonna change...
I am not even sure which lenses Canon could let Sigma bring over.
Maybe some of their zooms since Canon zooms are pretty competitive.
Pretty much any Sigma prime would cause problems for Canon right now.
