So….. I received a screenshot that showed an EOS 3D being outed by B&H Photo. It seems to be making the rounds around the web and at the 30th email about it, I have decided to post it. I am 99.9% sure this is a hoax, as B&H Photo is on holiday and I doubt they’d be adding and removing products that haven’t been announced. Even if a new camera is coming for PhotoPlus, this is way too soon for B&H Photo to be notified of new products. Not to mention the fact that the manufacturer number 5266B002 is for the…

A new EF-S superzoom There is really only one lens in Canon lineup that I can’t think of a nice thing to say about it, and that is the EF-S 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS. From the subpar optics, no USM, terrible build quality, high price and the industry worst “lens creep”. What can I say that’s positive? I have been told that a new superzoom with STM should be expected in 2013. There will be a superzoom for EF-S and and and affordable non-L one for EF, apologies to the 28-300L, but you’re too big and expensive for most people to…

The little EOS is on its way We have various reports in Asia that the Canon EOS-M has begun shipping. This is good news, as the North America release for the EOS-M of October 15, 2012 should come to fruition. We’re still waiting to see some good and thorough reviews of the new camera system, but they should be coming sometime in the next couple of weeks. Rebates run until October 27, 2012 Canon USA has extended the recent rebate program for Canon lenses and speedlites. The dollar amounts look about the same. Canon EOS 5D Mark II Canon has also increased the instant rebate on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, and it’s now priced at $1799 ($100 more than we were told yesterday). That’s still a great price for a great camera. This rebate also runs until October 27, 2012. All of our pricewatch pages will show the rebates and prices in real time. cr

Save a lot I’ve been told by a couple of people that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II will see a big price drop this coming week in the USA, we should see it in other countries as well. We’re told the new price will be $1699 USD for the body until they’re all gone, which won’t take too long I don’t think. Keep an eye here and we’ll post when the new price takes effect. cr

From LensRentals.com A good partner of ours, LensRentals.com is running a contest to win a MacBook Pro w/Retina Display. Apparently people like the laptop and think the screen is pretty good. I might be one of those people. I’ll say it right off the bat, the contest is for US residents only. It’s not because LensRentals.com dislikes the rest of the planet, it’s just about laws, borders and that sort of thing. The contest info is in the graphic below (Click for larger). From B&H Photo B&H Photo has limited stock of the Canon ST-E3-RT wireless transmitter. This seems to be a difficult accessory to get your hands on judging by the emails I get. This transmitter is only compatible with the Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT. There are rumors of a less expensive radio receiving flash in the near future. The last word was it would come in the first quarter of 2013. Canon ST-E3-RT at B&H Photo $319 cr

A bit more information I’m told that the coming big megapixel camera is a very new sensor design/overhaul. The emphasis is in the dynamic range of the sensor. Performance is said to be on the level of medium format, even better than the impressive D800. The same person also says the camera won’d be a “3D” or any other “D”, it will get an all new naming scheme. EF 35 f/1.4L II This is apparently also ready for an announcement, now that the manufacturing issues with the EF 24-70 f/2.8L II have been solved. This lens could come at PhotoPlus…

Two f/4 Telephotos Coming I’m told we can expect two new f/4 telephotos to be announced in January, 2013. The first will be an EF 300 f/4L IS II, you can obviously expect better coatings, IS and a slightly lighter weight. The second is said to be an EF 400 f/4L IS, no mention of it being a DO lens. With the price of the coming EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x, mixed with the also expensive 400 f/4 DO IS, there is probably a big market for a 400 f/4 prime that is “affordable”. cr

More confirmations of a big megapixel body for PhotoPlus I have received more confirmations that the current plan is to showcase a new 46.1mp Canon EOS 3D at PhotoPlus in New York City in October. Along with the camera body, an official announcement for the EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x will be made. It’s also suggested that 2 other lenses could be appearing for PhotoPlus, though those details have yet to be finalized. Last year for PhotoPlus, Canon announced the EOS-1D X. It is a show Canon has been known to make a splash with. cr
