Sensor delays A new sensor line will appear in 2013 that will be seen across the entire APS-C lineup. Expect to see the first announcements in the first half of 2013. The delays in developing the sensor was apparently a big reason for the big firmware update for the 7D. It’s also suggested that there may not be a 7D/60D amalgamation in the future. The 7D Mark II will not be an APS-H camera as some have wished/rumored. Source: [NL] cr

From OneRiver Media The folks at OneRiver Media decided to compare the EF model of the Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. They put both cameras through a battery of tests to compare sharpness, dynamic range, lowlight performance as well as a few others. OneRiver recommends that you download the video to your computer, as they weren’t completely happy with the compression on Vimeo. Although, even the compressed file shows the differences in the two cameras pretty easily. http://vimeo.com/49875510# Release Information After several DAYS of trying to upload this video to Vimeo, we’ve ultimately had…

From Photozone Photozone has posted their review of the new Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II. There seems to be a lot made about the price of the new lens, I think a lot of people don’t realize the previous version was $2100 at launch and that was a decade ago. This lens is actually cheaper if we adjust for inflation. It will be part of rebate programs in the future, and we’ll probably see an official price drop in a year or two. Verdict “Fast standard zoom lenses are obviously very difficult to design. To date we never really thought…

A big difference A reader sent in a quick comparison between the Canon EOS-1D X and Canon EOS 5D Mark III showing a very different color rendition as well as a significant difference in noise performance at ISO 25,600. The Quick Test The following test was conducted at sunset. This is the reason for the white balance setting, which on my 5d3 most closely approximated the warm tone of the light. Both files were dialed in at 8000k, +15 magenta. Both use the exact same lens, and were shot within 1 minute of each other. Both files are DNG 7.1,…

From EdMika This new EdMika adapter fits many more lenses than previous kits we have made. This conversion kit includes 1x EdMika FDn-EOS-A brass adapter body, 1x EdLink, 1x EdShield and 1x rear EOS cap. You only need to have your own good quality small phillips screwdriver to do the conversion. The main brass adapter body will fit most FDn mount lenses but will not fit any of the older FD lenses that are the silver ring/breech lock mounts. So far I have full kits for the lenses listed in the chart below. These kits allow you to replace the…

Here are some pixels for you to peep, this is a direct quote from our forum “I was browsing the photos on Amazon’s page yesterday for the 6D and watched this video: Visit Amazon.com for video At the 19 second mark, it sure looks to me that the app’s header says ‘Canon EOS 4D’. i have added a screenshot, but watch for yourself. For further research, see canons page for the EOS Remote app, it clearly shows how the 7D and 6D look in the header, and are nothing like what is in the video. Visit Canon.co.uk” CRs Take…

It may finally be on its way Canon EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x is consistently a lens I get asked about. Canon announced the development of the lens about 18 months ago and hasn’t spoken much about it since. Mike Owen, a communications manager for Canon said they expect to have the lens available before the end of 2012. Although he wouldn’t commit to the date. Some loose specifications about the lens? It’s expected the EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x will weigh slightly more than the new EF 400 f/2.8L II, which weighs in at 3.6KG. Minimum focusing distance of…

Magic Lantern on the EOS 7D? Yes, that’s true. Our young team member g3gg0 did the impossible, and solved the 7D puzzle within days of receiving the camera from Trammell Hudson (on September 12). Background: Trammell Hudson started to port Magic Lantern on 7D three years ago. While he was able to run user code using the firmware update procedure, he was not able to run it in parallel with Canon firmware – which was required for Magic Lantern to run as an add-on software, without replacing the main firmware. Since then, we had little or no idea about how…
