Canon EOS R1 Spotted in the wild at the Monaco GP

For your viewing pleasure, we have been send some images of the Canon EOS R1 being tested at the Monaco Grand Prix, which is happening this weekend.

We expect the internet sleuths to figure out everything about the camera by the images alone.

  4. Really good ergonomic choices made — most notably, there is now a bar to fasten your strap to on the underside of the camera. Much better positioning if you go back and forth between between portrait and landscape, and it also keeps the lens down instead of sticking out.

    Dedicated white balance button is really nice for video.

    Locking hotshoe and battery door covers are also extremely welcome.

    All right... checking the bottom sticker you can see a mention of HDMI. Looking at the bottoms (with consent) of both R5 and R3, that is not seen. Normal sized HDMI confirmed!

    Also, the DS code is not any of the leaked codes, but that can be country-based.

    Also again, by checking camera bottoms it made me realize that the R3 doesn't have a metal bar for straps on the vertical grip, what the duck, Canon?

    Hopefully you can change white balance while recording like the cinema cameras. One of the many reason why i hate using dslrs or mirrorless after using a cinema camera.

  14. Yeah, noticed that too. DS126925 - I think it looks like, it isn't really clear.
    I checked that and came back with this, "The product registered with the ID DS126925 is Aldehyde Dehydrogenase, Yeast. It’s a biochemical research/analysis product by MilliporeSigma"

    Time to spread the factual information that the R1 is actually made by Sigma. It comes with a Foveon sensor.

    This has always been an EOS 1 feature - to allow the Hand Strap E1 to be used.

  19. Canon finally put a battery percentage on the LCD. I have only wanted that for about 15 years.
    The R3 has one but it is not exactly a percentage.
    It looks like a percentage but it is 4 stages Hi, low, in between, and reserve power.
    People mistakenly think reserve power means the battery is 1/4 full.
    Why Canon did it that way is a mystery.
