The Review
Here's a head to head review of Nikon's D5000 & Canon's T1i.

Conclusion snippet
“This finds us in a familiar spot. The best camera of the two is really a camera that combines the features we like of both. Another “it depends,” but we find ourselves leaning towards the Nikon D5000 for a few reasons……..”

  1. I used my cousin’s rebel over Thanksgiving, and was thinking to myself, I love the wheel on my 5D mark 2. It is so much easier to shoot in manual mode if it has two wheels.

  2. My $0.02

Image quality. Too close to call
LCD. Nikon’s wwivel vs Canon’s 3″ high-res screen. Tough call.
    Viewfinder + ergonomics. Nikon wins.
    Compatibility. Nikon lacks AF motor.

The lack of AF motor would be a dealbreaker for me, if I was looking to enter the DSLR market again.

  3. I keep on getting people asking for advice for their first DSLR. They’re keen, got a bit of money but not too much.

Could never recommend the Nikon as it can’t focus with Nikon’s 50/1.8 (probably the next buy after any camera). To be honest, I’d also recommend any newbie not go for the 1000d because of the rubbish screen – wait for 2000d (or whatever it might be called).

This reviews not aimed at the real low-end market…

  4. Charles Bronson on

Am I to understand they had noise reduction turned on in the high ISO tests? I’m also assuming they’re RAW files? Kinda vague.

If I were considering between these two cameras that would totally throw me. Give me the sharper image with more noise so I can do my own post-processing.

  5. So basically they said, the Canon is pretty much better in all but ISO and JPG outputs for professionals (“too vibrant”), but we like the Nikon, so the Nikon wins?

    Clearly very objective of them.
