  1. If Canon were to release a T2i with a rugged, metal body and maybe an improved AF, I would buy it tomorrow … 60D or whatever name / model it gets.

Seems like this would fit well price-wise between the 7D and the T2i. I fully believe that not having something between the two would be a mistake, since a 100% price jump between models discourages too many people from stepping up.

  2. I’d like that… think of it as either a souped up T2i (faster operation, better AF and controls) or think of it as a mini-50D with an improved sensor.

  3. The point is that Nikon’s big seller does not have a direct competitor from Canon, so Canon are losing market share. Both make cheaper and less feature rich cameras than the D90, but the D90 outsells all those models (in Japan last week). The D90 is sitting in a sweet spot and the 50D is (to the average consumer) obsolete and uncompetitive.

You can claim that the 550D is the D90 competitor–it sells nearly as many–but then the D3000 and D5000 are up against the 500D and together are outselling it three to one. The 7D is way behind and the 50D is nowhere.

  4. “And the canon 50D is a lot newer than the D90…”

The D90 was announced one day after the 50D was announced. Are you thinking of the D80?

  5. Pulled the trigger and ordered the 7D/18-135mm kit today from BuyDig.com … which means, the 60D should be announced as soon as the return period is over for my 7D purchase – about 2 weeks or so….
