Will we need the latest R1/R5 II firmware for this new lens?

All you have to do is wait for the RF 20-70.I wish it went all the way to 70mm (like the Sony 20-70mm f/4 G) but compared to teh Sony: it is a power zoom, which is a plus, and it is optically stabilized, which is another plus. I'm in for one, I think.
I installed it on my R5m2 and so far so good. Precapture toggle works great: it even switches you from mechanical shutter to e-shutter and back automatically. Here's the direct download link, straight from Canon: https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/1/0400011461/01/eosr52-v130-win.zip
Great to hear from you, Ed!Hi Alan. I've been inactive for quite a while. I saw the same thing when I got my 5D MK II. I had a V60 SD card to go with the Fast Main card. I just used one card most of the time.
I have no use for the power zoom, but the 6 stops of lens IS will be great, since I’ll use the lens mainly on an R8.…it is a power zoom, which is a plus, and it is optically stabilized, which is another plus. I'm in for one, I think.
Most likely because with a 35ms readout speed, Canon felt they had to give the R50 V a physical shutter curtain (just one, though), whereas with a 13 ms readout speed, they felt that was fast enough for the R6 V.then tell me why canon R50V still support 1st curtain electronic shutter ?
I know, but I could place an order for it (or make a reservation) at KameraExpress, a Dutch company. Not available yet here. There is a Canon 20-50mm lens available, but it’s the CN-E T2.4 version for $24K. I’ll wait a bit over two hours for the RF version.

Edit: Ordered!
One question still is open: How good is it? I'll know it in a few weeks/months...Impressed. A definite buy for me for the following reasons 1) internal zooming, 2) covers a very useful range, 3) lightweight at less than 1 lb.
How about reposting that photo of you hanging under your tripod!Really Right Stuff has just launched a new line of tripods called Benchmark, the leadoff for a new Core Line that promises 'performance within reach', specifically the famed RRS precision and reliability for (on average) 30% lower prices.
The Core Line
Discover the new core line of tripods from Really Right Stuff, featuring the Benchmark and Benchmark Inverted. Built with in-house carbon fiber in Lehi, Utah for true RRS performance at a more accessible price.reallyrightstuff.com
As an example, the Benchmark tripod offers similar specs to the Versa 24L Mk2 in terms of tripod size and weight and having 4 leg sections, and the former costs $945 compared to $1195 for the latter. Having said that, the Benchmark is rated for an 18 kg / 40 lb load compared to 32 kg / 70 lb for the Versa 24L...so it seems you still get what you pay for. Then again, RRS tripods are over-engineered for their support rating, for example my travel tripod is a TQC-14 that's rated for 11 kg / 25 lbs, and yet I can literally hang under the tripod and it supports my weight...which is far greater than 11 kg. So an 18 kg load rating is likely more than sufficient for almost any rig you'd want to mount on the tripod.
I also question the tagline. Yes, $945 is less expensive than $1195...but both are still expensive. Despite that, I think it's a good thing that they're launching a more affordable line, as relative as that term may be in this case.
The other thing I will say is that from a quality standpoint, RRS is hard to beat. I've had the TQC-14 as a travel tripod and the TVC-33 for use with my 600/4 for nearly 14 years, and they're functioning and even looking good as new, as are the ballheads and gimbal head that I bought concurrently.
Hi Ed, so good to hear from you. We miss your always informative comments. Hope you are doing well.Hi Alan. I've been inactive for quite a while. I saw the same thing when I got my 5D MK II. I had a V60 SD card to go with the Fast Main card. I just used one card most of the time.
Best of luck reporting it to Canon. I've just ordered a cheap Delkin 64 GB V90 as an emergency back-up in case anything fails. The prices are all going up soon.Ha! Guess what make mine are...
Interesting about the V90 recommendation, I wasn't aware of that for stills. All it says in my manual under "Compatible cards" is UHS-I or UHS-II cards are compatible: my Lexar V60s are UHS-II. It does recommend a V90 card for some of the video modes, but I would have thought that for basic operation in stills mode V60 should be fine. I might still try reporting it... Will do some testing at the weekend.
This is an amazing lens for street photography, as a street photographer myself, I hope it is 20-60 like the Lumix kit zoom, however I like it has internal ZOOM which means it is not that big when we zoom in, which is not bad for SP. I am now consider it alongside the 28-70/2.8 for use of SP. Personally own the R50v and the PZ zoom kit lens, i love that lens for it's internal zooming capability. The 20-50 focal length is ideal for street photography. However, the lens is quite large for streetphotography, especially with the lens hood. It would be nice if Canon released a 35mm pancake f/2.8. This, in combination with the R8, seems great for street photography. The 28mm, on the other hand, is just a bit too wide.
then tell me why canon R50V still support 1st curtain electronic shutter ?notsureifserious.jpg
why would a VIDEO camera need support for flash?
Get an R6 mk III if you need a camera that does.
Ha! Guess what make mine are...Lexar cards, I have discovered, are exceptionally slow for the handshake that Canon does.
32 bit float audio
if there is no flashing support, it would not sell very well i am afraid. I was wonder if canon cannot realize the importance of flash? if no flash I would not buy this one
