Has anybody used Watson LP E6(N/P/NH) batteries? I use the Watson LP-6NH version and have had good luck with them.

This has been a fascinating side track on this thread. I love learning about other people’s experiences! Food for thought.

Honestly, I’m just worried about grit and moisture in the field and mostly that’s why I use non-artistic filters. (I also use square filters when in zen mode.) Grit against the lens, or grit falling into the “gears”. The filter is such a simple fix for 99% of such trouble where lenses accept them. It’s not meant to withstand an ill placed dump truck in motion.

Just this weekend I went knee deep into unexpectedly loose river sand and sent gunk flying. I’m happy to report my 16-35’s front element remained grit free after a quick swish of the front with filter in the river. (My boot, however, most certainly was not grit free! Gah.)

Separately, I 100% agree there’s more to life than a chart sharp lens. Unless you need a chart sharp lens. I love my EF 50 1.2 and 24 1.4 ii, and others go meh. Eye of the beholder and situational context, right?

The third wheel on the R7 II makes a lot of sense. Frankly, if I were Canon I would use the three wheel design on all cameras if physically possible because it would standardize the controls across the brand.

I've had filters stuck many a times. Here is my technique of dealing with it. Find another cylindrical object with a similar diameter (another lens, a beer can, etc). Tape this object to the filter with electrical tape or duct tape. Then, twist. You can apply much more torque this way compared to trying to twist the filter on its own.

A bad workman blames his tools. Never had a back/front focus issue. Outer AF points never bothered me, maybe I could focus and reposition if necessary. Was always able to manual focus if necessary. Low light never a problem on a tripod. Modern MILCs are definitely better at tracking and FPS. Wsyiwyg is handy. A better camera won’t make me better photographs than with a 5DIV , it just makes it slightly easier. I was lucky I went through a period of great improvement. It’s all marginal gains now.

Hey, thanks. I didn't know this existed. Like I said, this wasn't really something I cared about for the R50 since it would live in Control Ring mode. However, for the R7 where I do both wildlife and macro, the button can come in handy. It is always hard to figure out all the possible customization options. For those looking to see what the icon is, here is a snipet from the R7 manual:

All 10 of the Sigma RF-S lenses are currently in stock at B&H, including the new 15mm f1.4.

No I don't see that option.

Any news about a potential replacement to the 15-85 EF-S that came along with the 7D originally ? Or anything close to a 24-105 equivalent for RF-S ? That is my only reason for not buying a new RF-S camera as it’s my go-to lens 90% of the time . I have 5 other EF-S that I cannot afford to replace by FF equivalent if I can only get a 24-105 with FF bodies

And for those of us who've already assigned other necessary functions to every available button, it's unfortunately not an ideal solution. I'm disappointed Canon didn't add a "hybrid mode" option, one for instance where it functions as a control ring most of the time but if you hold down the metering button it'll act as manual focus when you turn it. Wouldn't be perfect for every situation but would save having to sacrifice a precious customizable button (especially important on the budget bodies). Doesn't seem like the newer bodies can do this either?

The MP-E 65mm has no focus system whatsoever. For any given magnification, there is only a single focus distance: MFD is THE focus distance. Period.

Subject is brought into focus by moving the entire camera and lens towards or away from the subject, or by changing the magnification.

Compared to more pedestrian focal lengths, no one has ever really sold "a lot of $3000-$5000 tele lenses."

They've always been a niche market apart from sports journalism. And sports journalism ain't nuthin' like what it used to be in terms of the number of staff shooters being issued company owned Super Telephotos. Today's freelancers are not complaining about using their EF 400/2.8 with EF-RF adapters on RF bodies. They're too busy hanging on for dear life working for pennies on the dollar using their own gear compared to when they held full-time staff positions and company issued gear.

Except that the RF 400/2.8L and RF 600/4L (and their corresponding lenses with the built-in 2x in the design) are the only regular* RF L lenses without a control ring.

(*The RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye doesn’t have a control ring.)
