Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

Other than the sensor, the EOS R was more the successor to the 6D Mark II than the RP was. Even Roger Cicala called the EOS R "a mirrorless 6D Mark II" after doing an EOS R teardown. (No one claimed the R6 was the successor to the 1D X Mark III just because it has the same sensor...)

The RP was the first budget Full Frame digital camera in Canon's history. Canon had NEVER released a FF DSLR at anywhere near that price before. There was no "previous" model in the series. Nor has there been a succeeding model in that price range and class. The R8 comes close, but it's more like a FF 80D compared to the RP being a FF 77D. (The 77D was not quite an x0D, not quite a Rebel, either.)
Agree to disagree - every time Canon released a lower price FF, that was the "budget FF" at that time. The original 5D was the first one, then the 5D went upmarket and the 6D became the one. Then we had the RP. Eventually the RP will go away and the R8 will remain, unless Canon will decide to do something different, as they do not seem to be big on long-term consistency with product lines

Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

That's like saying a couple who are no longer having children are dead, even though they are still raising the children they already have. Even after one retires (from their career) they're not dead as long as they are still living.
Wow... running for the prize for the worse analogy ever?
I guess everyone understood what I meant but you?

Canon Officially Announces the Canon EOS R6 Mark III

Look like this will ship just in time for the holidays! I feel bad for anybody waiting on the Sony a7V because the holiday window is closing fast and there is no announcement scheduled, let alone shipping date. Not to mention the rumor mill is looking a bit sparse. I think its safe to say Canon is on top in this category right now.

Canon Officially Announces the Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM

This is ridiculous, You can't even log in into B &H website, I've been trying for twenty minutes... Common B&H you don't make enough money o have decent servers??? Pathetic.
I woke up at 4 AM, grabbed my laptop, placed my order at B&H, and then went back to sleep for a couple more hours. :)

Canon Officially Announces the Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM

I saw that - looked it over. I put it at a point somewhere between the EF 50/1.4 (a good copy) and EF 50/1.2L (though the Digital Picture site has a screwed up copy of the 50/1.2L as mine doesn't have that excessive purple fringing issue). I think the MTF is fairly accurate.

I'm taking a chance and getting one. It'll serve for those rare occasions when I actually use a wide aperture 50, and will also make a reasonably nice portrait lens on the R7.

One thing I'm noticing on my 50/1.2L (EF version) is that the DOF is so razor thin that you just about need to use a tripod to nail focus just where you want it. I took a picture of 3 darts in my dartboard, and it focused on the edge of the double-cork ring, throwing the dart's point shaft (1/4 inch behind the focus plane) out of focus. I hadn't pulled that lens out in a while, so I'm sure I could improve my technique. But 1/4 inch of movement makes a huge difference at reasonably close objects and f/1.2.

Canon Officially Announces the Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM

Slightly disappointing, i wasn't expecting RF 50 1.2 performance but was hoping for a little surprise in image quality.
Image quality is indeed a surprise no matter how you dice it. For me it is pleasantly surprised. To get an EF 50mm 1.2 equivalent in a lighter modern mirrorless package, awesome. Add to that the low price...omg! The EF 50L was a legendary performer for $1599 msrp back in 2006, equivalent to $2500 in today's dollars. That makes this value of the decade.

Given this precedent, if you can wait for it, Canon may introduce a RF 50 1.2 equivalent lens in 2037 weighing 1lb for $700. ;)

Canon Officially Announces the Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM

I expected near zero distortion, like the RF 50 1.8, and maybe a little extra resolution specifically when stopped down to f/2.8 or beyond. Nothing else to complain.

The promised similar optical performance to the EF 50mm f/1.2 L seems to be delivered, with very slightly more centre sharpness, exactly as I expected.

Size, weight and ergonomics seem great. Poor man's internal focusing is very highly appreciated, all these cheap lenses should be like this!

I'm happy it's not the 48.5mm patent we saw, because this probably has a wider field of view, so it's not a 50 labeled as a 45.

I don't know, I'll have to try it for myself.
I don't know if this level of image quality will please me. I didn't went with the EF 50mm f/1.2 L, years ago, I bought with the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art instead because it was sharper, but I also don't use R5s so, I have to try it.

I'm looking forward to handle this lens.

I wouldn't buy EF glass at this point, unless I needed something specific that I couldn't afford on RF, like a supertelephoto prime.
EF glass is being discontinued, needs the adapter, and this will be serviceable for much longer.
I bet a lot of EF 50mm f/1.2s will appear now for sale, because owners will probably be able to replace it with this for free or even with some extra cash in their pockets, while removing the adapter.

Canon Officially Announces the Canon EOS R6 Mark III

Regarding previously discussed speed of flash-sync. This is from Canon Europe spec-sheet:

When [Cropping/aspect ratio: Full-frame] is set: 1/200 sec mechanical shutter / 1/250 electronic 1st curtain,
When [Cropping/aspect ratio: 1.6x (crop)] is set: 1/250 sec mechanical shutter / 1/320 electronic 1st curtain.

So the 1/320s sync speed is for 1.6x crop electronic 1st curtain.

As expected for non-stacked sensor, no flash sync using fully electronic shutter.

Canon Officially Announces the Canon EOS R6 Mark III

I'm waiting for actual hands on reviews but on first thought, I don't like the mixed cards.
Never owned CFE cards and SD cards are more than enough for me. I was plenty satisfied with dual SD but I would get used to replace the SD card in place of letting the camera fill the second one when the first comes full
I agree, getting to play with the raw files in Lightroom will give us all an informed perspective on the R6iii's noise and image quality.
However, the max iso has been reduced from the R6ii by 2/3rd of a stop. thisis uaully an indicator from Canon as to it's expected hit on the increased noise threshold those extra mp cause. If the ios noise between the R6ii to R5 was a whole stop then this increase in rez will affect the noise too. So maybe 1/2 to 2/3rd of a stop is about right.
this morning, I've heared numerous youtube influencers talking about the great features of the R6iii....most of these great features are alredy present in the R6ii....which goes to show how good the R6ii is / was.
Here in the Uk, the launch price is around £2700 GDP...whcih is very high considering I can buy a new R5ii (via grey import) for the same price. A mint used R5 for £1600 and a new R6ii (grey) for on;y £1350....for only a few new fetures...that's a lot of £££ for not a lot of benefits. I can literally buy a pair of R6ii's for the launch price of one R6iii.
I think if I was looking to jump from DSLR to mirrorless, this would be a great camera. I think upgraders from the EOS R and R6mk1 have a lot of milage in this upgrade. but for existing R6ii users....it's more of an expensive side grade. Slightly improved, more of an evolution that definatly builds on the shoulders of it's great predecessor. If Canon continues selling their R6ii alongside the R6iii, then the R6ii may become the true bargain of the canon range.

Canon Officially Announces the Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM

This seems like a great addition to the RF lens lineup on paper but I'm also a bit disappointed.

If you want the vintage 1.2 look, you can already buy a used EF 50mm 1.2 L for a similar price. You get better build quality, weather sealing and USM on top. In that sense, this new lens doesn't really add much to the table. I would rather get the EF lens, personally.

On the other hand, the RF 35mm 1.8 STM has superior IQ at 1.8 for the same price + IS + semi-macro. It still seems like the better lens overall, unless you only want the extreme soft look and don't want to use an adapter.
