I would like to see an M5 upgrade with as many of the r5 features as possible in the power envelope and I would be willing to pay handsomely for one. The fact that there were no discounts is good news re the staying power of the M line. The only discounts this year were on the RP and R, both of which are clearly due for replacement (RA is already EOL), so maybe clearing inventory.

Thanks....I've looked at those 100 times and not fully appreciated that the R5 has NR baked into the RAW file at ISOs 800 and lower. Looks like, at least for the cameras I looked at for Canon, this started with the 1Dx III/R5/R6 (at different ISOs). Now the R3 has it the entire range.

Yep, grabbed it this morning. It also adds modules for the RF 16mm and RF 100-400 lenses. It currently doesn't load the module for the RF 100-500 + TC when used with the R3. It's available and can be downloaded manually, but it won't apply. The bare 100-500 works fine though.

Do you think, regarding accessing the image.canon.com will be other issues with a camera made for China market? I bought it already at a good price and I don't know whether to return it or not. I don't know if that could be the only downside (the cloud thing).

I lived in China 2012-2014, so sounds like we had a small overlap.

Honestly, I didn't haggle much, but checked out the vendors in TST along Nathan Rd.

I bought the 300/2.8 from a vendor I no longer remember the name of, up near Mong Kok or maybe Sham Shui Po (found then on price.com.hk). They were up several floors in a building, you needed to buzz the door and take an elevator. They apparently were shipping a lot of lenses abroad.

The 5Ds and 5Ds R weren't just a high resolution sensor put into a 5D Mark III body. They had some things that the 5D Mark III did not which then showed up in the 5D Mark IV.

Flicker reduction, for example. Also DiG!C 6 (mark III had DiG!C 5).

Axis cameras are (for the most part) an order of magnitude less expensive than this model. Canon has an entire security business unit with Axis, Milestone, and a few other vendors. I can't see this camera playing in that space.

The formal rationale is very low lens flare of these particular lenses. Dragonfly studies galactic halos, they need optics with very low scatter.

A very nice lens. I had it here for several weeks to try on my RP

I've far more pictures than I've included in the reviews, so if anyone has any specific questions let me know?

A note for some - I'm an commercial/industrial photographer, so for macro I don't tend to shoot living stuff and definitely not outdoors if I can help it

Thanks, yes I got the drift. But it gives me an idea I can try to apply to other lenses - to 'sight' the object externally first.
