Breaking down the latest Canon gear to appear for certification

If they bring a camera at a lower price point to the R, the internet will freeze over. Canon cannot do such a stupid move. They cannot possibly gimp the R any further. A lot of people are waiting for the R to drop to 1800 (1400 refurb) which is what it's worth. Lower model will keep the R price high.
What if it didn't come until 2nd interations of the R cameras and they actually are as good as the Sony? Maybe in 2020 or 2021.

DPReview first impressions on EOS R

Well, Canon is milking us with this product like Apple with ist new iPhones (my grandgrandson wants one from me - for 1300€ (that´s just a PHONE)).
The eos R is like Mr. Mirage said, 80/125%. But it will sell well. My dealer said, he has an enourous amount of orderings. More than they thought it would be - especially crop camera user uprade to this new system. Not so many FF users.
The coming successor of the Eos R should be 100/100% - the shop assistants of this pro shop also think. The are having an public event today and in the next days, so some Canon salesmen had to defeat their product to a lot enthusiasts and they alwas say: It´s an addition to our products. And being asked, where an more pro orientated body will apear, they say: Get an 1DXII or 5DSr...
This specs war is just an small piece of the whole cake. But it is like the center piece, and a lot not so positive reviews will cause an negative effect.
On the other hand, this is the chance (a very small chance) that Canon will pull out an hare out of the hat - an really Pro-body. (Like they did back some years with the 5DII, 7D, 5DsR....

Adapter for Canon DSLRs to use RF lenses?

The fact that Canon even built and produced a 28-70 f/2 zoom lens suggests that they are committed to the RF mount enough that we will see 5D and 1D type R bodies in the future. Until then, the reviews of the EOS R sound like it will do a fine job of capturing images with this lens. I have a feeling the rental houses will have a hard time keeping them in stock.

What do you want in a 5DSR MkII?

I very much like the current version of the 5DSR. But it does have shortcomings that prevent it from being my main camera, as much as I dislike the softer output from the 5D4:

- More speed. The delay between shot and review can be several seconds, particularly after a burst Would also appreciate a bump in FPS, to around 7-8.

- Extended ISO range: although below modern FF standards, there are times I wish the camera natively reached 12,800 ISO instead of being capped at 6400.

Less important, a “nice to have”:

- Enhanced crop options: I like that on the new EOS R, you can select C-RAW mode and increase buffer capacity, as well as 1.6x cropped RAW shots at a smaller file size. I hope these can be extended to a 5DSR successor.

One last thing, to anyone on the fence about the 5DS series: if you are a details guy, and especially if you also own a 35 1.4, 85 1.4 or big white, I highly recommend this camera. Nothing else in the Canon system comes close, including the 5D4. There is no AA filter or aggressive NR algorithm (if you shoot RAW) to hold you back. Only your stability. I think I’ve only had the moire issue come up on two images (out of 1000+) and then, it was very slight and easily correctable. I will say that to get the most out of the sensor it is best to expose correctly or as close to it as possible.
Shoot at iso6400 and push a stop if want iso12,800 - it's in the range where DR and noise change linearly with iso so it makes little difference if you underexpose in RAW and push in post or expose at the higher iso.

Preorder: You can now preorder the Canon EOS R system and other new Canon gear

I really don't understand how Canon thinks that it is great to have the option to put the ND and CP filters on EF lenses via the adapter yet this isn't possible with the R mount... I highly doubt that a future R mount camera will allow for internal CP and ND filters. Or perhaps there will be? The way I see it, the filter adapters have a limited period of usage - only until the current EF lenses have been rereleased for R...
Meanwhile in Europe:
Eos R + cheapest adaptor : 2 519,99 € = 2,922.47 US$
Eos R + 24-105 F4 : 3 529,99 € = 4,094.17 US$
50mm f1.2 : 2 519,99 € = 2,922.47 US$
28-70 f2 : 3 249 € = 3,768.26 US$
Adaptor with control ring : 229€ = 265.57 US$
Adaptor with CPL: 329€ = 381.56 US$
Adaptor with Vari ND : 449€ = 520.71 US$

We are quite far from the announced prices
I’ve already ordered EOS R body in Russia and here the price is about 2400$ with ef-adapter.

Should I purchase a 300mm f/2.8 is I for wildlife???

Not necessarily. It depends on the lens.
With the 500mm F/4 the lens may be moving more mass inside.
Battery power, (other bodies vs the 1D line) seems to matter more for speed on the bigger lenses.

One stop is an 8 to 10 minute advantage in the morning and evening. It may not sound like much but you gain time at the most prime wildlife time.

I meant not in terms of the lens but the AF sensor in the body.

A pair of 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lenses coming in 2019? [CR2]

If the lens based IS is being used and the camera based IS is disabled, then the cost of the camera based IS is useless and an unnecessary expense for the user who only uses telephoto lenses on a particular camera body. For IBIS and LBIS to work together requires another level of software development that also adds considerable cost to the system. Even Sony hasn't got there yet, and they rush everything to market before it's been tested properly.

No one is saying IBIS is not useful. We're only saying that sometimes it may be better than LBIS, but sometimes, though, it is not.

Some of us want both options. There are already plenty of cameras without IBIS, but very few with. I would gladly pay extra for IBIS, and when, or if, needed, just turn it off.

ft worth TX Military aircraft activities Fall 2018

Dave, which lens are you using? I think there is a big airshow coming to Ft. Worth too. I'm in Irving so I'm hoping to make it. Looks like you work on the base.
I use the CAnon 18-200mm for close work and tamron 150-600mm for the longer range! I do have a Canon 100-400mm 1st gen but it is not as sharp as my Tamron! and do not have the range
