Patent: LCD for Image Review While Using An EVF

Wouldn't this be a potential FF mirrorless?

FF seems extremely unlikely for this; they only have one FF cine cam, and that's the FF version of the C700, their highest-end cine cam. Even APS-C would be pushing it, considering where the XC cams live in their pricing lineup. I wouldn't be shocked if it were APS-C, but I think it'll either be their 1.5" sensor patent from a while ago, or remain at 1". Assuming this is anything other than patent-blocking, like most of Canon's patents seem to be.

Industry News: Nikon's Full Frame Mirrorless to Be Announced August 23, 2018

agree with your observations, but isn't that irrespective of DP-AF? Any other version of on-sensor AF system would also do ... although DP-AF does have a number of [theoretical] advantages.
I don't think that Canon uses any other version of on-sensor AF in their new sensors, so we don't know the limitations very well.

Specifications and an Image of the PowerShot SX740 HS

I really doubt that the III will have better IQ. If I were to guess I would say GPS and 4K only. And although I would love to have GPS, in practice it would be a burden to the camera's small battery.

That sounds likely. If I want GPS stamping, I pair it with the iPhone. That does eat up battery on both devices, so I don't do that on long days of sightseeing. I will snap a photo on the iPhone at the same locale if I feel I will want the location info, and the time stamps coordinate where I was when. One of the iPhone pictures in Hawaii turned out so well that I printed it out and had it framed along with some of the G7X II shots. They hang in my front room.

EF-mount Mirrorless design

So I hear a lot about flange distance and how they can’t make the bodies thinner because of it. What if they kept the font to back the same and narrowed the side to side, more like their cinema bodies. They could place a flip display just like they do on camcorders on the side and still have plenty of room for custom buttons. The ergonomics on video grips might be even better than in DSLRs and light years better than Sony mirror-less cameras. Just my 2 cents.

Fake LP-E6 Batteries

Well I just got done as well but luckily I did my research first and knew straight away that it was a counterfeit. Luckily it came in packaging which was actually the giveaway but if it had been classed as used I honestly would never of known, these fakes are scarily good. Canon needs to add some type of fullproof security feature to its new batteries actually on the body itself.

The link is not working :(
Just add a___ in the word where underlines have been added to get full link. The forum seems to be filtering links to that site.

Link to Site Banned, intentional posting of a knowingly banned link will draw a ban on the poster. - Mod

Oooo.... now I just want to know what the site is, that's like putting a big red button in front of me and saying DON'T PRESS!! ;D

Indiegogo: KOBRA Flash Modifier

Ah, such clever advertisement from Kobra.

This is another small diffusion unit just like MagMod and MANY other similar products.

It's the SIZE of your light source, people, the SIZE of it! No matter how clever you
advertise and market this product, photographers who have been in this business
long enough and know what the heck they're doing will never buy this product if all
they're simply looking to do is soften the light/shadows. Oh well, amateurs will fall for this product

Nikon Mirrorless teaser posted

Thinner than FX mount = somewhat expected to allow for larger aperture glass. Very large throat diameter + a clear low light vibe in the ad plays along with the f/0.9 lens we've been hearing about. They also showcase a lens that is not what most would call tiny.

And either that mount's throat diameter is intergalactically big or it's a tiny width/height body -- the mount circle seems to be almost as tall as the entire body (sans EVF).

One would guess it's a novel control set as that rear LCD looks like it eats up most of the real estate.

Also: a non-tiny grip.

All decent calls, IMHO, though I'd prefer a 5D control set (thumb wheel especially) over a bigger screen.

Tokina 14-20mm f/2 - LensTip Review

Twisterfiddler said:
I have a 11-16 f/2.8 , it is meant for crop sensors but also works on full frame as it has a EF mount.
Now, this new 14-20 f/2 also has EF mount , so.... how does it perform on a full frame ?
can you use it at 14mm f/2 ?
that would be awesome.
anyone please try and report ?
northern lights on a 6D with 14mm f/2 sounds yummy ...

Brian Carnathan has a review on his The Digital Picture site. Found it by googling Tokina 14-20.

Sync problem with optically triggered old strobe

Hi pierogo.
Glad to hear you have it working, thanks for letting us know, so often people come here, ask for advice and don’t bother to let us know how they got on.

Cheers, Graham.

I set the 90ex to manual and the Sunpak fired IN SYNCH!
Plus, setting the 90ex to manual, which I'd never done, revealed that I can control its output as an on-camera fill, rather than just use it as a trigger, conserving its power and shortening its recycle time in the process.
I can't tell you how happy I am about this.
I'm looking forward to playing with this powerful old flash you folks have made new for me.
Thank you very much!

FF Mirrorless Poll: What Mount Will We See?

I think EF mount FF will appear first as a professional 5D/1D alternative. NO adapters, straight big body.
I'm not a lens designer but shortening the distance between the last element and sensor suggests to me that the optics needs a greater convergence than a longer distance ...therefore is more difficult and maybe has more distortion. So I think Canon will leave EF alone and bring a full size FF mirrorless out.
But I may be wrong.

Review: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II by ePhotozine

Thanks for the link. The more I see of this updated vII the more I like. If you ignore the bigger, heavier, whiter aspects of the upgrade it's looking like a solid performer. I've carried both the original f4 as well as the v.I IS for more hours and miles than I could count and they have always been excellent. A 16-35 f4 IS and a 70-200 f4 IS and I feel like I can always bring home something nice.

I recently bought my second copy of the v.I IS. I don't really care to upgrade at the moment but if the upgrade costs drops to a few hundred dollars I might bite.

I love mine for stills but it doesn't handle DPAF video servo focusing well at all. I don't use it for video due to it's particularly ugly focus pulls, focus breathing and clunky IS which is a shame because it's a perfect focal range and aperture for events on a 5D4. Sounds like they may have corrected most of that in the v.II.
