First EOS 5Ds and 5D Mark III comparison

Secondly, if you are going to use mRAW or sRAW convert it in DPP !!

Oh well, I personally won't ever use mRaw or sRaw anyway. Just did that comparison because I was repeatedly asked to in the german DSLR forum, and as apparently almost none of the other owners there bother to post anything about the body. Doubt there are only 2-3 guys who have that camera now in that huge a** forum, but hey, I delivered quickly ;D

XC10, XF series and random rumblings.

Just spent a day shooting with an XF300. Brought back memories of my old z1 and my even older XL1...

Just ingesting the footage and it's not bad at all... just a bit video... down to the 1/3" chips of course.

The flexibility and speed of operation, the sensible and sorted audio, and a decent versatile lens which is f2.8 at it's slowest....

It's certainly faster than working with a DSLR, but I miss the large sensor look...

I wonder if Canon might put their 1.0" 4K sensor from the XC10 to work in an XF style body? The extra size would mean an SSD bay wasn't such hindrance, so shooting becomes a lot cheaper than with the XC10.. maybe a shorter zoom range, but with constant f2.8, or at least, f2.8 at the slow end?

Although Canon desperately needs a 4K budget EOS camera...

I think the problem may be that they want a 4K codec which works nice with most systems (The Sony and Panasonics do not, unless you have the very latest, tread carefully) and that can also be used with SDXC cards...

Some EF servo zoom lenses might be nice too at some point. Especially if they can work with a lanc. The old 35-80PZ is getting hard to find now. (a wee joke)

EF-M 18-55 version 2 = collapsible zoom please

I hope the recently rumoured replacement for the EF-M 18-55 kit lens is a collapsible zoom.

I was looking at M cameras in the shop yesterday and concluded that the smaller camera size offered little benefit when the attached kit lens was not noticeably smaller than the EF-S kit lens on the equivalent entry-level dSLR's such as 700D or 100D.

The collapsible 16-50mm zoom on the Sony Alpha looked like something I'd be more likely to carry with me on holiday or take along to social events without appearing to be The Photographer.

Maybe marketing won at Canon, but drawing the conclusion that Canon Marketing trumped Canon Engineering while Sony Engineering trumped Sony Marketing because the product Canon Engineering produced differs from the product Sony Engineering produced is silly. Even if they had the same design parameters (4K video), it's silly to assume that different solutions means different management direction.

In Canon's defence, they haven't said why they chose 50MP.

Has don't explained why a camera that records 4k internally and 42MP stills only has USB2?

Zomg crippled

Can you explain why usb 2 will be inferior on this camera to USB 3? I understand that USB3 is faster but what benefits do you think you will get?

Faster transfer from UHS-I max read speed (about double USB2 bandwidth). 4k clips could be massive. Also, the camera supports charging via USB, and could charge faster over USB3 than USB2.

Mainly I just get a kick out of mimicking the folks who label as crippled any and everything which is less than state of the art. I have no doubt that had the 5DS/R shipped with USB2, people would have added that spec to the "crippled" pile.

5D MK3 Paint touch up?

I use Tamiya X-18 Semigloss black to touch up scratches on 1D bodies - drop it into the scratch using the tip of a toothpick and let gravity flow it out. You can thin it a touch with the Tamiya thinner to make it flow if needed.

Once dried, can't tell where the scratch was. I usually do it in a few thin layers until the scratch is filled up.

Testors sucked - couldn't ever get it match the texture of the original finish.

Tough decisions......

TGCorneliussen said:
many thanks for the opinions...unfortunately i do not have the luxury of having too many lensen (nor the funds with growing kids XD)....but i will keep the 70-200 and sell the other 2 and acquire the 85 1.2 and samyang 14 2.8.

hoping the 5D III goes down a little in christmas. Or maybe ill 'accidentaly' order the 100-400 II XD. can already see the Mrs comments there 0.0

Again, it depends on what you shoot, but I guess you will miss the 17-70 range, 14mm is too wide for most things, though I understand wanting the 85L, I want that lens too, and I want the 100-400 II, if I had the budget I would get both as well, but if I had the 24-70 II I wouldn't sell it, unless you have the kit lens with the 600D, but of course you will lose sharpness, IQ, and low light capabilities, sorry I am not making this easier, but its really a tough decision.

Its interesting that they can build a high tech sensor, but don't know how to use a lossless compression, and have to investigate for what has been 3 years or so already.

Yeah, but their method of lossy compression is innovative.

Can you explain? How much loss is there with their method?

I was being facetious, but details are here:

I would say they add a creative touch to your photography ::)

Canon 7d mk2 storing video question

Best what I found is to record on ssd with atoms ninja 2 with your 7d2 and then use black magic ssd dock to start editing without any delays and imposting files.

Talking about mini hdmi, you have a screw-on bracket coming with your 7d2. wJust use it with hdmi and it will never come loose.

I have never had any problems with hdmi connestion neither with my 5d3, nor with my 7d2 even without bracket. Just be careful and don't stress your gear for the sake of being a "pro".

Upgrade to 70d or 760 d ?

Just a quick update to this topic:

I rented a 70d with EF 2,8/17-55.

Body felt good, no usability problems when coming from a 400d, but much more settings to be done for fine tuning.

Lens didn't convince me at all. I had high hopes because the lens is well regarded as a good performer, but sharpness was below my expectations.

So I got a 70d with Sigma 1,8/18-35 Art and this is a great combination. AF is snappy and lens is very sharp. That's a huge step forward in my little photo world ;)

Combination though had a pretty obvious front focus which was easily corrected by the 70d's afma.

And here we are at the point that was the main concern when deciding between 70d and 760d. I wanted to make AF working fine with all lenses, the ones I have by now and the ones I will add in some time. So decision was easy at the end.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

Long time lurker.. First time poster.

Not really a reason to buy a F1.4 lens but even at higher F-stops the images are quite surreal. Bought one for my trip to France after much doubts & contemplation but am glad I did. Its got its moments of iffy behaviour and focusing isn't always bang on in tricky situations but when all its stars align, its pretty magic! Maybe I'll exchange mine for another copy to see if things improve but there's no way I'm giving this lens up. :)

Redrock Micro talks EOS 5D Mark II & Mad Max

No Magic Lantern used.

I think in every 5D shot that ended up in the film had the sky replaced in post because it was completely clipped.

Second Unit DOP David Burr suggested the Olympus cameras because he had previously used a heap of them with great success on the movie The Cup.

Being full frame means it is easier to get a wider shot, especially with a 16-35mm.
C300, BlackMagic etc. are all smaller sensors, so not as good at getting really wide shots.
The less distortion the better, because there is going to be a lot of compositing going on.
Codex is too expensive to smash or fill with dust, dozens of them.
Camera budget is a tiny, tiny percentage of the film's overall budget.
Budget for throwaway action cams is a tiny percentage of that tiny percentage.
Even on a big film, the cost of the smallest camera item matters and is calculated.

Remember how long ago this was.

Hint needed: Buying an prime lens in Italy?

I need an hint from someone, who has bought his prime lens in Italy:

I want to buy an Canon 600mm II 4.0 lens in the next few weeks. So I started looking where I get it at the lowest price. I saw, that in Italy some shops do offer this lens about 1500-2000€ cheaper than here in Germany.
Payment method over paypal (as I think is more safe than just bank transfer) is accepted in most online shops.
Can someone tell me, if this would be an good decision?

Shops I found:
http://www.idealo.it/confronta-prezzi/2381428/canon-ef-600mm-f4-0-l-is-ii-usm.html

And can someone send me an reputible shopname, where you bought it? (over the Canon Rumor forum private Message box)

Thanks a lot
