Canon has released new firmware for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. This is a pretty minor update, but a recommended one.
Firmware Version 1.6.2 incorporates the following fixes:

Fixes an issue that, in rare cases, displays an Error Code 70 after the camera has been connected to a network for a prolonged period of time.
Fixes minor issues.

This is a truly awesome and wanted update. Never thought canon would do something like this. The fact that they just did this with a camera that has been out for a bit shows they are getting more committed to their base as the canon of old would just come out with a new camera with this feature. I wish they did audio with slow mo on this though. I have used a lot of cinema cameras and this camera is one of my favorites, what you get out of this compared to a red is hands down more reliable and gives you equal quality with better ergos

Anyone else buy an Arsenal 2? I bought one, and am having trouble getting it to do anything even close to as nice as in the promo stuff... Anyone else try one?

Canon has released a new feature and bug fix firmware update for the Canon Cinema EOS C500 Mark II.
Firmware Version 1.0.6.1 incorporates the following enhancements:

Adds support for the Canon Expansion Unit 3 [EU-V3].
Adds Focus Position Guide feature.
Adds support for additional commands for Canon IP [XC Protocol].
The following features are enabled when the following lenses are attached: CN8×15 IAS S/E1, CN8×15 IAS S/P1, CN-E45-135mm T2.4 L F, CN-E45-135mm T2.4 L FP

Displaying metadata, such as the model name and the focal distance of the lens attached.

Displaying T number
Support for Peripheral Illumination Correction and Lens Aberration Correction.(EF only)
Support for Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus (EF only)
Support for [Dual Pixel Focus Guide](EF only)




Enables AF when S&F shooting frame rate is set to 24/25/30/48/50/60/100/120 frames per second.

correct. Raw light is only for full width ie for 8k.
You can see the IPB (light) options for 8k IPB, 4K/60, 4k/30, HD/60, HD/30 etc.
Am I missing something?? If so, what is the codec used for the compression?

That's true.

I have their 15mm macro lens that focuses to infinity, and can give an interesting look for a macro shot with a LOT of the background in focus too....interesting images with that one.

Interesting video but it doesn't really address who are Canon/Nikon's current customers and why they still have a toehold in the current market. They could be selling to China as ASML isn't able to for instance. I was intrigued to discover than basically all the ASML lithography machines ever made are still in use and maintainable. That is remarkable.

Anyone know who makes the stacked/BSI sensor chips - is it just Canon and Sony?
I would assume that Canon does its own lithography for them so in that respect they would be a leader in that niche. I wonder if they sell the lithography machines to Sony

It seems that the only other stacked chips in production are memory chips

EF-S lenses had the long SLR film-to-flange distance (I think 44mm?) and just need a spacer adapter to fit on RF (I think 20mm?)
In contrast EF-M lenses from the M line of interchangeable-lens mirrorless cameras had a film-to-flange distance of I think 16mm, anyway, shorter than the RF. You can't really make an adapter that lets you mount the lens closer than the RF flange as it'd have to "reach into" the RF camera bodies. That's not a technical impossibility but the entire lens would have to stick into the RF body and while the mount is big, I'm sure it's too small to allow any EF-M lens to be sunk into the body, and therefore such an adapter couldn't be made.

Maybe this will replace the Fuji 100S on my aspirational list as the camera I would buy if I were buying a camera. I can afford not to spend $8100 about as well as not spending $6K. (Plus lenses)

And as you get toward macro range, you are likely not to want to move the focus, and change magnification, or rather set the magnification with the focus ring and then move the camera to focus on what you want. That becomes even more important with stacking. I'm not likely ever to need a motorized rail, but I can imagine how that might be handy.

I really didn't want this post to be something to dissuade anyone from doing their own printing if they can swing the initial cost. Because, yes I am having some issues right now, but I owned a PRO-1000 before this since around 2017 and it was great, and I have had this since I think 2019 and it has mostly been very good.

Not only that, but seriously the ink and paper costs doing it yourself are somewhere around 10-20% of the cost a good photo lab would charge. So even if you encounter issues, honestly you can screw up multiple prints and still be ahead of the cost of doing it at a lab. I also was just never super happy with the results I was getting from a lab. Sometimes it was almost good, but I really like having the control over everything myself, and being able to make my own call about when I want to do a re-print, compared to getting something from a lab and accepting it even if it's not quite what I want because I don't want to ask for a re-print for something that is so close to being good, but not quite.

The case I used with my 24-70/2.8 II was the Lowepro Lens Case 1W. A perfect fit with hood reversed, for that lens as well as a 24-105/4, 14/15/16-35 zoom(2.8 or 4), TS-E 17/24, etc. Unfortunately, many years ago Lowepro revamped their lens case lineup and changed to a centimeter size-based naming (e.g. Lens Case 9x13). There is no direct replacement for the 1W, with internal measurements of 10x12.5 cm meaning a 9x13 won't work with the hood. The next size up is 11x14, which is too big IMO – I like my cases to be an exact fit. If you're open to used cases, you can probably find a 1W for sale.
