Extension! Don’t miss out, the 5DayDeal Video Creators Bundle 2020 sale has been extended 8 hours

FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a very real thing, and when exclusivity is involved, the anxiety it spawns tends to be intensified.
If you are still trying to determine if The Video Creators Bundle is right for you, consider this:
With the retail price of most individual items in the bundle priced higher than the bundle itself, even if you use only 1 or 2 items, it pays for itself!
What are you waiting for? The extension period will end tonight at 8:00 PST (11:00 EST) and, after that, this sale will be gone FOREVER! If you’re wondering whether or not there will be a second extension, you can stop wondering. I’ll tell you right now, there won’t be. So if you...

Third Party Battery Grip for EOS R

I've been waiting on a 3rd party bg22 myself but never seen one. What I have come across that I didn't end up buying but was on the fence about was meike mk eosrg. Basically ergos only extension, no battery or vertical release. Not sure what the build is like on them but imagine it would be improvement over the R alone from ergos PoV which is pretty small and too small for me to get all my fingers on easy ; skinny fingers but large hand length/width = awkward finding stuff to fit so wasn't sure if such a minor grip extension was worth it.

Yeah I've seen the Meike hand grip extension thing but not got one yet as I've been holding out for a true battery grip.

Just seems so strange that one hasn't appeared yet, and there is now several for the RP from a couple of manufacturers.

Although in saying that, we are now 18 months since the launch of the EOS R and there are only 2 third party lenses available.....

The EOS M lineup will be addressed later in 2020 [CR1]

i also own the 15-45 and the 18-55...what i don't like most about the 15-45 is the collapsible design. i feel i'm missing moments having to extend the lens and i don't trust it (and me) to leave it open all the time. what i don't like about the 18-55 is that it starts at 18 :))
i have the ef-s 15-85 as well which solves both complaints but it is a beast on the M5 with the adapter
i also dipped my toes into the fuji system and their 16-50 kit lens is really good...and they have the mirrorless equivalent of the ef-s 15-85 i've been asking for from canon: 16-80 f4, which i'm more and more tempted to buy...
I have been using the 15-45 ( along with other lenses) on my M5 for over 2 years and do a lot of "shoot and run". The only time I collapse the lens is when I need to put it back in the the camera case. So far so good. Even regular zoom lenses changes length when you zoom. No body that I know is concerned about it.

Tokina Firin 100mm F2.8 Macro review

Its for Sony FE and has the same optics as the ATX-i 100mm F2.8 1:1 Macro lens for Canon EF, Nikon F mounts, but is missing the distance window. I'd tend to go with u used Canon 100mm L for a few dollars more, I've been able to use it handheld at very close distances taking advantage of the Canon IS. The $399 price for the Tokina for Canon is reasonable.

Canon 28-70mm f/2.8 with IS for DSLRs?

Richard Shepherd, pro product marketing senior manager at Canon Europe, has said in interview in Digital Camera World that "And of course, should the market demand it, we are ready to create new EF lenses. But for now, our focus is on RF", so I wouldn't expect any new EF lenses.

Photography equipment sales are shrinking fast. On top of that, cameras & lenses have become so good, most photographers have no need to upgrade. For Canon, the RF mount is a chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure of making photographers buy new cameras and lenses all over again.

Not making an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM, which Canon is rumored to have developed, is one way to get there.

As of today, The Complete Video Creators Bundle is available for 96% off!

Serge Ramelli is a passionate guy with great presentation skills; I'm not a big fan of him as a photographer. If you look his 500px profile up, you'll find a number of grungy cityscape photos and a number of average landscapes with heavily (yes, heavily) tilted horizon and sensor dust spots. This guy teach postprocessing and doesn't know how to remove the dust spots and level the horizon up. Compositionally, most of his photos are mediocre at best. If you do a blind review, you'd never tell these photos belong to a guy with 700k subscribers.
However in this bundle his tutorial is about growing the youtube channel, I think he understands how to gain popularity.
I don't find anything interesting for me in this bundle, but there may be some interesting stuff for someone. Just be aware, these days there's lots of free educational stuff on Youtube, you just need to carefully filter out the rubbish content.

Tokina 50mm F1.4 Opera review

What do you guys think between this Tokina, the Sigma ART, and the Voigtlander 50mm F1.2? The Voigtlander is MF but its also a lot lighter and compact, and F1.2 and is about the same price.
I have the 50Art and love it.
My old Tokina 16-50mm F2.8 image quality is OK, and mechanical quality is heavy dutty.
I have no experience with Voigtlander , but the ones i have see is poor in sharpness wide open.

Nik Collection 3 By DxO: A Faster and More Creative User Experience in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Classic

I've been looking around and Capture One and the new On1 offerings.

They both still offer purchasing licenses...but they also now are offering subscription...ugh....I hate that they are even offering it.

But different strokes for different folks.

C

On1 subscriptions are for all of the online learning "how to video" content, not the actual application.

When they introduce ON1 360° there will also be subscriptions for cloud storage.

The Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 will be announced in the first few days of July

I am upgrading from the 5D4 as well but I am much more excited about other aspects. The RF lenses are amazing, I tested out my new 85 1.2 DS the other day and it hits focus so much more reliably than the EF 1.2 - I am also moving to the 28-70 f2 for events (24-70 2.8 II was on my camera 90% of the time) and this new lens feels like a mix of that lens with portrait lens perks :D dual card slots, IBIS, eye tracking / animal eye tracking , RF mount, and significantly faster cards are all reasons to be very happy! From what people are saying it is going to be 44.7 Megapixels (as video ratio different to photography ratio) anyway :D

44.9 MP when you make it 8,208 x 5,472 so both sides of 3:2 still images are divisible by 16 like every other Canon EOS sensor ever made.

Samyang 85mm F1.4 for Canon RF

Sounds like a very reasonable lens, especially for the money.
Interesting that Samyang has af lenses for the RF, and no-one else has, yet.

A few years ago I bought a Tamron 85mm f1.4 for my 5d3, but the af was very much hit and miss and so I wouldn't use it for paying jobs, but I put this lens on my R, and it focusses very fast and accurate.
I think the R works really well with af lenses that don't play well with DSLRs.

EOS R AF disable in back button focus

It definitley sounds like something to do with the way the cam ranger is set up.

I shoot 5/7 bracketed shots on my R often, however I just use the countdown timer to release the shutter for the whole sequence and it doesn't try to focus between shots.

Have you tried without the camranger and using some other remote trigger to rule it out? Even with the EOS app?

EF FF Lens on a Fuji GFX: Which ones will cover the sensor? Advice on adapters?

I thought similarly this year (I wanted to buy myself a Fujifilm GFX 50R or possibly Hasselblad X1D II 50C), and after analyzing my life situation (I do not earn a penny from shooting pictures, I live in such a region of my country where most of you after seeing this place would probably told me "dude, how do you find photo opportunities in this shitty place?") I ended up buying the brand new EOS 5DS R from the gray market for ridiculous low amount of money compared to how much it costed a few years later and now in the official Canon store. Before EOS 5DS R I used EOS R for less than a year, and before EOS R I used EOS 5DS for almost four years. The world of sensors above 50 megapixels is too addictive for me.

Looking for a little help if anyone knows how to find such a list, or how to find the specs and calculate if it would or not for a given lens.

All the tilt-shift 35mm lenses would cover the 44x33mm format, with room to spare for movements.

Source: https://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/35mm-lenses-fujifilm-gfx-50s-tested-andy-king/

I don’t want to say much about the individual lenses that I tested, only that they all covered the sensor apart from the Sigma 24-35 zoom, that gave hard vignetting at 24mm.

From Canon I tried the

300mm f/2.8 mk2

85mm f/1.2 mk2

50mm f/1.2 mk2

45mm f/2.8 Tilt Shift

40mm f/2.8 STM

From Sigma I tried the

135mm f/1.8

85mm f/1.4

50mm f/1.4

35mm f/1.4

24-35mm f/2

Of course you need to refer to some sort of lens compatibility chart if one is ever made, to know which lenses covers the sensor. But for now, if you want to jump on this train early – then it’s all trial and error.

I have started a shared spreadsheet for tracking adapted lens coverage. Please consider updating and sharing. Also add lenses that you have tested that do not cover the sensor.

Using Canon Lenses with GFX

Third party lenses will always be a gamble with the GFX in terms of overall usability. That said, I’ve found that the 35Lii, 85Lii, and 135Lii work fantastic! You’ll still get some correctable vignetting, but honestly, I even get a decent amount of vignetting with those lenses on my Canon cameras.

The 50L does have a significant amount of vignetting, but it does look dang good. Again, you’ll have to give them a try to know for sure which lenses will work .

To mount my Canon EF lenses to the GFX, I purchased a Steelsring EF-GF adapter and have been happy with it. The autofocus seems to work really well though I don’t use autofocus often.

Source: https://jeffandmichelephoto.com/learn/fuji-gfx-50s-review

Also, I"ve been starting to see various adapters...to allow mounting the EF lenses to the GFX mount. I see mostly from Fotodiox and Techart.....both seem to claim they will work well with EF lenses to allow auto focus, and aperture control, and so far videos I've seen seem to show them to work fairly well, even autofocus didn't seem too bad from the demos I saw.

I'm wondering which would be the best to work with EF glass?

You can find the most opinions about the Techart adapter here https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...0527095463_canon_to_fujifilm_gfx.html/reviews It looks like a no-go in 2020, especially if you would like to use it with the Fujifilm GFX 100.

Kipon adapter also has some problem https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1457039-REG/kipon_ef_gfx_af_canon_ef_to_gfx.html/reviews

Maybe this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/STEELSRING...921351?hash=item1a5e84f487:g:84YAAOSwYahbn1UD will be the best option? "New update to 2nd Generation already !!!" so it probably has the latest firmware already updated. If not, firmware updates for this adapter can be found here http://www.steelsring.com/en/firmware-update/#efgfx

Images of three new Zeiss Supreme Prime Cinema lenses leak ahead of announcement

I have always wondered how a cine lens would do for portraits. I'll never know. I should probably rent a cine lens to find out.
There is nothing magical about the image quality.
Signature Primes are the same as Zeiss Stills lenses, but they have different iris with more blades to give a rounder aperture.
So out of focus rendering is a bit smoother.
They are assembled much more carefully so that all the elements are all centered and flat and consistent.
The mechanics are different obviously, but that doesn't gain you anything for stills.

RF mount cinema camera in the works [CR2]

Who’s going to buy a C200? How did red beat canon to an RF mount cinema camera? Even when the C100 mkiii does come out I doubt it will have a feature set and price tag to rival the Komodo. Right now the only camera in the C line that compares is the C500 mkii for $10k more.

Who's going to buy a C200? Anyone who still has a huge collection of EF glass that needs a cinema body, Canon's DPAF, shoots long form combined with occasional commercial work. Basically the same buyers who have been buying the C200 since it was released.

How did Red beat Canon to an RF mount cinema camera? The last time I checked it wasn't a race; this is Canon's own mount we are talking about here. There is a huge collection of EF and PL mount cinema lenses already out there in the wild, Canon knows this and knows adoption of the RF mount will be slow; even the C300 III came out with an EF mount; why rush your cinema line to a new mount when there are no cinema lenses for that mount?

No one knows what the C100MkIII will have or if it will even ever exist, but you are comparing a camera with unproven/untested AF, beta this, in development for that to a field tried and proven line of cinema cameras; then stating you need to spend $10K more to get equivalent specs. Also, you do know Red's business model right, all you get is a block, the accessories to make that block work will cost just as much as the block. So no ND filters in body, no IBIS (C300 MK III has ibis), no XLR inputs (will need an external audio recorder), etc. etc.

I'm not saying its specs aren't fantastic, and that it won't be able to produce incredible footage, I just thinking everyone slamming Canon and claiming gloom and doom for Canon's cinema line needs to realize that the most common phrase associated with Canon products is that specs on paper do not tell the whole story.

CR3 Codec Available for Windows -- Display Thumbnails in File Explorer

Not true. Rather than "Photos," my default programs are FastRawViewer for CR3 files and FastPIctureViewer for CR2 and JPG files. All of these photo types display as thumbnail photos when File Explorer is set to display icons larger than small. When it's set to display Small Icons or Details, the default view program icon (FRV or FPV) for the respective file type shows in the directory list. I installed FRV after acquiring the 1DX III because the codec supplied with the quick but ancient FPV had not been updated; the program would not open CR3 files. With the updated Microsoft codec, FPV can now also open CR3's.
FRW has it's one codec pack and this is not supporting CR3. Do you see a thumbnails of the CR3 file in Windows Explorer with FastRawViewer as default.?
My default program for CR2 is PS 2020 and without FWR Codec Pack and with Raw Image Extension I only get the default thumbnails in Windows Explorer. Only after I make Photo's the default I get a proper thumbnail but small. Raw Image Extension is displaying the embedded JPG files in DNG or any other RAW extension. Not the actual Raw itself in full size.

Patent: Canon RF 120-700mm f/4.5-8 optical formula

700mm. I highly doubt I could handhold a 700mm lens and get a sharp shot. I'm not knocking the lens at all. I might actually be interested. I just know my limitations. ;)
Forget about your "limitations".
Optical stabilization plus IBIS are all you need. Depending on the speculations, they could allow a gain of up to 6-8 speeds.
So, no excuse to refrain from buying one...;)
