Any one else things that way? Is it fair to assume in any case there is one more body (PC 2357) and one more lenses comes out soon? If so any guess what are those could be?

Discount dates differ for Canon Store vs B&H Photo

I was looking at the $500 discount on the Eos-1DX Mark II today. On the B&H Photo website the discount is valid only until September 8. On the US Canon website the discount is available until September 22.

Two questions:
1. I have regularly followed the discounting from Canon. For this $500 discount which has been going on since at least end of 2017, the discount period has always been a full month. Does ending the discount on September 22 mean something? It's right before Photokina.

2. I have never seen a discrepancy on the discount expiry date between B&H and Canon. This time there is a major discrepancy. Does this mean anything?

Here is the official Canon EOS R system white paper

Be careful when looking at and comparing MTF charts. There was a discussion on the new 600 f/4 that the new charts may be using a different standard. The new 600 III MTF looks bad when compared to the MTF charts released with the 600 II. The RF 24-105 has the new "Look", it only has 4 lines instead of the 8 used in the old charts for the EF 24-105. Not sure what it all means or what's changed. Canon Japan had the new charts for both the 600 II and III and they showed an improvement in the corners for the 600 III.

We're all just waiting for Uncle Roger to do real MTF charts anyway. No one will know anything until does an apples-to-apples test comparison. And snarks.

Canon Cinema EOS related announcements coming ahead of IBC Show 2018

As a long-time owner/operator of the C300 Mark I who skipped the II, I had been holding out for a while for the III. But I finally caved and got the Panasonic EVA1 last spring after nothing was announced at NAB 2018. At this point, whatever the III might have in terms of specs it is hard to see how it will surpass what is already being offered in the Fs7 II and EVA1, except being a couple years behind. Especially if the $16k prediction ends up being correct, which is about the twice the cost of the EVA1 and nearly as much for the Fs7.

Mirrorless......single frame silent mode????

Ok so Ive waited for a Canon Mirrorless camera all this time, In the meantime using the Fuji system, which is ok, but not full frame.
With my Eos lenses gathering dust!

Along comes this all singing all dancing Canon R........wait a minute the most important feature of a silent camera...." Single Frame, silent mode??? Are you kidding me, what is Canon doing? ......Saving pixels!

Now i hear they've thought about it, and are adding a firmware upgrade at some point??? So the handbrake can be turned off and it will be hopefully able to shoot, i hope more than 3 frames per sec!! But i guess more than one frame.......is a bonus!!! When do we expect this firmware?

Didn't Canon do the research and ask what was the major points of the Mirrorless camera is, ...but the silent mode!

If they dont get this right now.......the loyalty of pro camera users has gone for good, to Sony, Fuji who know the Mirrorless market, and what is needed.

WISHLIST: Canon EOS Rs Specs? (~March 2019?)

Im thinking:-
EOS Rs
50+MP sensor with BSI or new tech
8-10 FPS(maybe in crop mode)
Dual DIGIC8
NO IBIS
Dual SD Cards
Bare minimum video specs due to sensor res
Possibly slightly larger body(due to dual cards and processors)
HiCap Battery(still LPE6 size)
Real Joystick
Larger Higher Res EVF
I’m fairly close to you on this. Differences: 8-10 FPS with AF locked, 5 FPS Servo with tracking priority. Bigger battery ( can’t get significantly more power without getting larger).

Review: Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM C

Photozone aka optical limits has finally reviewed the lens: http://www.opticallimits.com/canon_eos_ff/1045-sigma100400f563c
They found what I found in the 4 copies I looked at courtesy of the local dealer; the IS in the viewfinder is terrible and not much good in practice. Their summary is: "Thus even though the Sigma is quite capable in optimal conditions, we'd suggest to look elsewhere."
My experience of the Tamron 100-400mm f/6.3 wasn't good either. I made the mistake of buying one because I thought it would be light for travel but eventually sold it as the tracking of birds in flight was hopeless. The Sigma and Tamron 150-600mms are much, much better and really worthy of consideration.

I almost bought the Tamron 100-400 recently also for an easier lens to travel with but backed away from it. I've heard too many negative things about the Sigma 100-400 and never considered it. The most recent Canon 100-400 is on my wish list.....

I do have a Sigma 150-600 C that I got a few years ago and my copy seems really sharp even at 600mm, I really enjoy the results I get with it most of the time.

I do have an issue with it hunting occasionally though if I'm not in great light conditions, I also need pretty good light for it to track well most of the time. I normally just use it on bright days to keep my frustration level at a minimum ;)

I use it on my 80D most of the time and took this squirrel image at 600mm -
f/6.3 - ISO 640 - 1/80sec.

The squirrel was about 20ft away from me in this photo......

New Canon RF lenses priced at Adorama!

I've heard very good things about the Tamron so hope the 11-24 lives up to my billing :) !

It was a good lens, no doubt. But I like the idea of the verticals being verticals without having to use transform in PS and it getting cropped in. It might have been a year ago when you explained projection distortion to me. Thank you. :) So many fantastic lens choices and not enough $. ;)

Nothing on 90D?

As a 7d2 shooter(would love a 1dx2 but unfortunately selling the wife won't generate enough cash) I can tell you that there is not a mirrorless camera on the market that could tempt me to change systems. Yet. Ergonomics are so incredibly important to a wildlife shooter and it seems non wildlife shooters simply cannot comprehend how important the feel of the camera is. With a grip the eos r actually looks manageable but it would have to tick a lot more boxes as well. Weather sealing. frame rate. An evf that does not hurt to look through for hours on end. ZERO lag when panning at high speeds. Buttons in perfect places(although that lens/adapter ring looks to be the shizzle). There is a helluva lot more required than just whacking in an evf nad some useless focus peaking.

Agreed.

Canon Speedlite EL-100 confirmed

Don't know whether the GN decreases that much, but maybe the GN is only 10 in the 24mm Position.
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean.
Normally you can read from the spec sheet how the GN is determined, eg. here
" The Guide No. is approximately 49.2 ft./15m at ISO 100.

The maximum Guide No. is approximately 196.9 ft./60m at ISO 100 and 200mm flash coverage."

If the EF Mount Is Phased Out, What to Do With Quiver?

Really ... nobody posted here ...

hard to eat that crow I guess ...

Remember the M? Canon introduced it and it sold well, and they maintained the existing Rebel lineup and EF-S glass BECAUSE IT SELLS WELL!!!!!

Canon has now introduced the R, and (presumably) it will sell well. They will keep the existing XD bodies and EF lenses BECAUSE THEY SELL WELL!!!!!!

Canon does not have to choose between mirrorless FF cameras and mirrored FF cameras. There is a profitable market in both, so there is now way that they are going to leave either market unless it becomes unprofitable.

And keep in mind, that at the same time they have introduced the R camera, they introduced a pair of EF big whites..... these are lenses that take many years of sales to recoup design and production costs. They are obviously planning to be in it for the long haul....
