Three Sensors Being Tested for Canon Full Frame Mirrorless? [CR1]

aha! was not aware of this. nice, Nikon!

but there is some menu diving involved to set it up. :-)

and a number of potential snags / cross-dependencies may also be encountered, eg:
https://dpreview.com/forums/thread/4253759

but definitely nice to see it in viewfinder mode in mirrorslappers. who knows, maybe it will eventually also become available in innovative Canons ... unless it is already. :-)

Triggering my 600EX-RT?

Hi Kat.
As already recommended, get the YN-E3-RT, then get 2 YN-E3-RX and put one under the 580EX and one under the 550EX and have RT with ETTL on all three flashes and the option to trigger the camera from either of the RX units if you plug in the usb to 3 pin remote lead that comes with the RT unit.
This is what I use and it works really well, in fact given the price it works incredibly well.
I have tried it on older bodies that don’t ‘know’ about RT and the only thing missing is control via the camera menu, you have to use the screen on the YN-E3-RT!

Cheers, Graham.

Industry News: Nikon announces 3 S line lenses and future lens roadmap

The 24-70 f4L zoom was a bit of a dud for Canon. Some like it, but many were not willing to give up the reach to 105. So the 24-105 mkII with zoom lock was born. Just 'cos it's mirrorless does not mean I'm all the sudden willing to give up the reach to 105 in my mid-range zoom. Canon please take note.

Right-sizing rather than down-sizing the body is more important in FF mirrorless than in APS-C; granted, but the initial Z should have had at least one reasonably inexpensive compact Z lens, like maybe a 50 1.8... oh, wait...

Any harm to the camera by using a 5DIV for prolonged video streaming?

The only real problem should be from overheating.....

However, having it on a tripod helps to radiate heat from the body, and as long as you are not leaving the camera in a hot environment or in direct sunlight, you should be ok shooting 1080 video... BTW, I have run into the overheating problem myself with a 5D2 outdoors, and made a sunshade for the camera out of a piece of thermoplastic and a hotshoe mount......

Proof of concept: UV-reflectance stacking with MP-E 65

I've been in contact with Klaus before, know his very useful website. There is also the ultravioletphotography forum. Thanks for the pointers re UV LEDs. As far as i understand UV LEDs, they are very narrow in terms of wavelengths, which result essentially in monochromatic (B&W) UV reflectance images. I am not aware of full spectrum UV LEDs (say 320-400 nm). I think I rather have to be careful in re-calculating DOF and step size, and play with distance vs output of flash unit, or find sweet spot with ISO setting. A UV pass IR block filter may be the holy grail, but not aware of one, and at the size I need it would cost a decent fortune. UG11 is blocking visible, but not IR, and then is also attenuating UV. Tried that with the Metz.

The scanner lens is an interesting idea. But first I'll fiddle a bit more with the Coastal.

Another EOS 7D Mark III Wishlist Makes the Rounds, Along With Some Opinion [CR0]

I find 10 frames is enough. Obviously more would be better. Current resolution works for me too. Can't see any need for more. I'd even be happy with slightly less. I just want far better ISO performance, slightly better DR and while I don't really use it/require it, more options for 1080x60 and maybe 1080x120 and 4kx30. I don't use video much though.
The 7D2 has served me well but the 1DX2 and D4 at work have left me wanting more from my 7D.

someone had to do it...5dmk4 vs z7 size comparison...

I noticed no one compared the nikon z7 to the 5d in size. I grabbed a pictures online from the same websites, opened up fusion 360, calibrated the sensor size(only point of reference that should be the same), and lined them up. Looks to me the mount is smaller then the canon ef mount!

This is in no way scientific just a noob with fusion 360 playing around(i design stuff to 3d print).

If I did this correctly I wonder if a medium format sensor can really fit in there!

dang that camera is small!

I read somewhere that the Nikon Z mount is 55mm internal diameter. The Canon EOS mount is 54mm.

Industry News: Here are the first press images of the Nikon Z6 & Z7 full frame mirrorless cameras

as to Z6/Z7 memory card: no matter if it is single or dual slot: i will not buy anything using exotic, hard to get from only 1 or 2 suppliers XQD cards.

quite interesting to watch Nikon going solo further out on the XQD limb when it is already clear that this card format will never make it to "industry standard". not even sony makes xqd only cameras. oO

personally, my preferred setup would be dual UHS II MicroSD slots and cards. more than fast enough for any kind of stills shooting and dirt cheap big capacity cards easily available from multiple suppliers.

Problem about img. attaching

I think Valvebounce is correct. Also I learned with the new format switch files that previously appeared large on screen now appear as thumbnails if they are uploaded using the "attach files" button at the bottom of the entry box. If you want a photo to appear large you have to use the "insert image" icon (mountains and sun) on the panel at the top of the entry box.

Just a bit of a correction. If you use "attach files", once it's uploaded, you can press "full image" and it acts like "insert image".

The 6D series camera

Hi Morona.
Welcome to the forum.
From page 94 of the English UK manual you can use the multi direction rocker thingy, joystick substitute hiding between the rear wheel and the set button.
With a custom setting enabled (page 324) you can select an AF point directly with the multi controller without pressing the AF select button.
Do you have C.Fn III -1 Dial direction during Tv/Av set, don’t know if this would cause your problem it or not!

Cheers, Graham.

Will Canon make a full size mirrorless crop camera?

Let’s assume that Canon releases the mirrorless FF camera within the next year, and it will be something like a mirrorless 5D or 6D-series. Will they do a crop sensor version as well? Something like a mirrorless 7D? The M5 and M50 are nice, but they really are too small for my liking, especially with larger lenses. Will it matter if they stick with the EF/EF-S mount for the FF or not? If they do, there will be three crop camera lens alternatives. What do you think?
I see no point in Mirror-less unless there smaller and lighter,.
I'm getting quite interested in mirror-less jobbie but it has to be small and light and have a decent evf.

What happens if Canon and Nikon enter FF mirrorless in different price points?

What happens if Nikon enters the market on one end of FF and Canon enters on the opposite, i.e. a pricey mirrorless D850 comes out around the same time as a modest mirrorless 6D2, or the D610 line is refreshed as a $1999 mirrorless setup while Canon puts out some $4k 5DS2 flavored mirrorless rig?

Curious to see (if Canon and Nikon don't enter the market with multiple price points right away) if people freak out that the first offering is all they are going to get and it wasn't the price point / feature set that they've wanted.

Would either company publicly reassure folks that 'this is just the first body and others are coming' or will they button their lips to get folks to focus their wallets on what is currently being released?

Zeiss to Announce 100mm f/1.4 Otus APO Sonnar T*

Too bad it's going to be an Otus - out of the realm of possibility for most. I wonder if they will introduce something similar to their Milvus line-up? They will now have the: 85mm 1.4; the 55mm 1.4; 28mm 1.4; and now a 100mm 1.4... Now that would be a suitcase of lenses to have! If you didn't need to work quickly that is...

The EOS 80D Replacement to be a Big Leap Forward [CR2]

any updated info on a 90D or 80D MII ? For months i'm thinking about buying a Nikon D7500 JUST for :
- it's a DSLR with a good OVF
- it's small but with a nice grip / good handling (i've had a test camera for a week - also had the D500 for testing but i want the smaller DSLR body)
- it has no AA filter !
- it has a nice sensor, just 20MP and very nice IQ
- it has a decent fps / AF and again it's small compared to my other bodies (except my m50 but i'm not too happy with the EVF thing)

I just need a DSLR that i have always with me , especially if i'm out with the dogs and need some nice action shots and i find myself not taking the big 1DX with me on the daily walks. As i said i've tested the D7500 with the 35 1.8 (DX) and 85 1.8 (DX) and liked it a lot. I like the Canon menus more but some of the Nikons way's of doing things are also very nice - so not a big problem to use the nikon together with the canon (usability wise). But hey, i don't WANT to buy it just because i can't have it from Canon. So i think the 90D should have all those minimum features (no AA please!) and add the better video AF and Wifi as well (that sucks on the nikon).

So i find myself checking the price for the D7500 every second day and stop myself from pushing the buy button - but WHEN do i get the 90D please ??????

Staging a shoot on the D/L in a restaurant or bar - tips appreciated

Do not expect photos like the first two without using at least two off-camera flashes.

The third one was likely done with just a bounce flash.

You are probably right. The last photo is an awful of bounce flash with terrible eye shadows. The second looks like it has used an on-camera flash if you look at the shadows below the lower right arm. The only photo I like is the first and this has probably used a lightly-softened or bare flash (see the hard shadows to the right of the main woman's nose.

Ambient lighting could have produced better photos. But I agree that a couple of gelled and softened flashes would be the preferred solution.
