Review of EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III by ePhotozine

They find it a superb lens, which of course is no surprise. The version 2 is by all accounts flawless and the version 3 is the same lens with new coatings. Hard to believe anyone will find anything bad to say about this lens. I have one on order from Adorama and since I traded in some equipment towards it they supposedly put me on the list to receive first shipment. I had the non-IS version (which was superb also) so I cannot compare this to the version 2 IS, but I look forward to having IS and equally as important to having about a foot closer focus distance (compared to non-IS).

1DX - very slight vertical play

The mounts on the cameras do wear and even deform. If you have access to a dial indicator, you can check the runout, if you can even measure any, I'd have Canon check it, 1/10000 inch tolerances are involved. Canon had a patent come out a couple of years back to address the wear issue.
For this, flatness or profile would seem to be the concern, not runout.

Industry News: Leica announces the M10-P

Exceptionally discreet, the new Leica M10-P allows photographers to see and not be seen
August 21, 2018 — Go unnoticed with the Leica M10-P, the newest, most inconspicuous addition to the Leica M series. Exceptionally discreet, the M10-P embodies the essence of the M philosophy and raises the traditional subtlety of the M series to an unprecedented level. The new Leica M10-P separates itself from other digital cameras with its almost inaudible mechanical shutter release and omission of the classic red-dot logo to covertly capture candid moments.

The most notable feature of the Leica M10-P speaks volumes to the core philosophy of the M series, yet it is virtually silent to the ear. At the heart of this camera is its newly designed shutter, making the M10-P the quietest of all digital and analog M cameras ever made. Moments requiring utmost discretion can be captured unobtrusively with the nearly silent, fast and slim M10-P. The design of the Leica M10-P is classically...

Buy M50 now or wait?

Prices typically drop in the October-December months, so if you don't actually need a camera, watch the prices, set what you would pay, and buy if it reaches that number.

Its grossly overpriced right now, it should be ~$500. A SL-2 will outperform it and has a $549 MSRP, but goes on sale for $500.

The FF bodies we are expecting will be more like $4,000.

PhotographyBlog: Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Review

No it did not! That camera was slow, plastic lenses and a terrible shutter lag. Also image quality was not so good. The SX740 is a compromise and not so bad. Read the review.

Yes, it might have been slow and with shutter lag but the low ISO image quality was miles better. It had tons of detail at ISO 80 to 200.
This camera is 10+ years newer and more expensive. Better image quality is expected.

Canon Patent Applications: More stacked sensor patents

Beside the Sigma use of the Foveon sensor, has there been any commercially (successful or otherwise) implementation of the stack sensor?

Sigma's Foveon is a stacked RGB standard CMOS. Standard as in it functions the same way a Bayer CFA does in terms of pixel-level signal amplification and on-sensor ADC. This patent pertains to a secondary substrate layer for faster processing like the Sony EXMOR.

Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM Confirmed

I'd guess price will be around $350-400[/QUOTE]
The weight of that Sigma 30/1.4 DC lens is 265g.
But the Canon might be smaller and lighter (for instance if it relies more on auto-correction or if it is not internally focusing).

My mistake, I was relying on Amazon product information which probably was the total package weight. Either that or just wrong.

Thanks guys :) I looked into better telescopes but decided that it would be going down the "rabbit hole" of expenses. Like still photography- maybe a second body and just a "few" more lenses.
We can aspire to competing with the pros in producing photos of sports, scenes, wildlife, arty stuff etc, but competing with observatories and satellites is at a different level.

5D Mark V wish list

oh, one more thing...Canon, please redesign the loathsome battery tray that currently blights the 5D4 grip. The previous design functioned perfectly. It's unfathomable that this got past the design assessments during development. Thank you...

-pw
I used to get intermittent loss of power on the old grip design, only resolvable by removing and reinserting the battery tray. I don't with the 5D4 grip. Granted the tray doesn't feel as solid, but anything that's lighter and actually works better is fine by me.

Using camera gear with vision issues.

While I've struggled with vision, I had cataract surgery that greatly improved it. 20/2000 is pretty serious, I think that even being able to compose a photo would be a difficult issue, but it depends on the underlying reason for the poor vision. My father had macular degeneration, nothing to be done for that, we tried lots of things, but in the end, he could recognize large shapes at best.

Dual pixel autofocus and live view will get you a sharp image, particularly if you can see to touch the subject. You can greatly magnify the image on the LCD which helps except in bright ambient light.(a shade helps with that)

A electronic viewfinder where brightness can be adjusted, and the image magnified should be a big improvement, but try first, all EVF's are not created equal.

A New 50mm Lens is Being Tested in the Wild [CR2]

Patents do exist for a version with updated AF. They won't change the optics, because it would cost much more to produce. So it may be labelled as outdated and too expensive comparison to the 50/1.8

So they might come up with a new L lens instead (less distortion, sharp corners wide-open), possibly with IS at about four times the price (1.5x the price of the Sigma ART sounds about right) and also larger than the 50mm f/1.2.
I don't think they are going to do both in the near future and the second one might be more profitable.

I think you're right, I already have given up to wait for a modern 50mm f/1.4 from Canon. In fact, I keenly wait for an upgrade of the f/1.2. I always hesitated to buy the current version because I feared it would not meet my high expectations I have using my EF 85mm f/1.2 frequently, one of my fav lenses. The 1.2/85 delivers just the right mix of good sharpness and gorgeous bokeh shot wide open (I talk about visual perception, not scientific lab tests), whereas the current 50mm seems to lack too much sharpness used at f/1.2.

Lens for Crater Lake NP

Ended up bringing both a 16-35 and a 11-24. The 16-35 was used more on the entire trip, but my favorite from the rim was at 11mm. Taken shortly after dawn. The haze/orange colors are from the smoke from nearby wildfires. The previous afternoon, you couldn't even see the water below nor the other side of the rim because smoke had filled the entire crater.

Profile for sigma 14mm f1.8 DG art for Lightroom bridge

Keith yes thank you. For me an update was required to the new bridge,Lightroom photoshop modle on CC. Was trying to update the Lightroom six on an older computer, but the CC update did it.

Got to say I’m not loving the slider set up in LR. Now I’ve just got to find clear dark smokeless sky, sound familiar?
