I am also considering replacing the 1DX with a 5DIV + a battery grip. The 5DIV has some great features, I think, but I am afraid I would miss the responsiveness of the 1DX and the big viewfinder to much to choose the 5DIV over the 1DXII. Does anyone have an experience on the overall responsiveness on both the 1DXII vs 5DIV?

And, for the record, I rarely need the high fps on the 1DX, but the larger spread of AF points and improved AF system in the 1DXII and 5DIV is tempting.

I never had the original 1dx, but I have the 5dsr and the 1dx2. The only thing I'm missing from the 5dsr is the ability to zoom in into details. The 1dx2 is my to-go camera now, and I use the 5dsr for staged shots with controlled light. Before I was using the 5dsr for everything (replaced the Sony a7r2). Besides the AF I think the 1dx2 metering is also superior to the 5dsr (which lacks the AF spot linked mode). The 1dx2 is a wonderful brick

rugged, fast, good in low light. I never had so many in-focus shots on my 85/1.2 as I'm having now. The 5dsr is a resolution monster though... IMHO both make a great combo. Of course I would prefer a 1dx3 with 50mpx @ 14 fps (dreams, dreams...

)

Not sure if this is the best video example, lot of caveats here before you should watch this video.

This was shot at local gym, so poor-ish light. Settings: 1/200, F2.2, ISO1600.

Shooting 1080p60. Slowed down by 4x in PP, so playback is 15 fps. Also cropped roughly 50% on both axis, so 25% of the resolution really, and then resampled back to 1080p.

Plus the person holding camera (I was shooting stills) wasn't doing super good on holding the camera stable, so the camera swings around quite plenty. I didn't do any PP video stabilization.

And I didn't bring my Zoom so I just dropped audio completely and replaced with generic youtube soundtrack.

Panos beg for other things that you can't do with a phone, like using the stitch to get a decent ( sweeping :-X ) view but with greater magnification from a longer lens, giving a different perceived perspective to a normal eye's view. I did this at Harlech castle to make the castle larger in the picture, but also to get more of the Snowdonia mountains in view behind.

Oh yes, and then there is the detail !

Incidentally this was shot on the 12.7 mp original 5D and a small amount of Kodak Portra 160 film grain simulation added.

"Seconds" may give people the wrong impression, so just to be specific (this was timed):

Cannot physically be done in less than ~30 sec. - and then only if you are an expert in clicking through the menus on a touch screen with no hesitation at all and have linked up the two devices before and not used the wifi with another device in between.

It's 14 button clicks (!) to change from one device to another - even if used before... (easier to do if you have a touchscreen) but the 5DS/R does not.

Why? Because it does not allow the camera to remember a device and does not allow a unified profile and does not allow the user to specify the security level. If any of the three were different life with Canon wifi would be much easier.

Nikon - that is actually "seconds". And you can link up a new device just like that: Snap.

I have the version 1 lens and use it a lot. The iq is very good but the af performance is not for many situations. The iq of both versions seem pretty similar. If the af performance is better on this new one then it would be worth upgrading.

No problem here, but I didn't use a current version of Adobe's products, either.

I tried to create the issue in Capture One and could not.

I converted that same RAW file in Adobe DNG Converter and opened the DNG in LR 5.7 and could not create the issue that way either.

So that leads me to one of two conclusions....

1) My camera is unaffected

2) It's an issue with the current version of Adobe's products

Michael, I looked for a download of one of your RAW images and couldn't find it to try it out with my 2 methods. If you'd provide one of your RAW files, I'd be happy to check my 2 methods. Also, I'd recommend trying in Canon's DPP software (which I also have and would be willing to try for you if you don't want to go through the trouble) to see if you can recreate the problem there too. It's possible Adobe is to blame.

That spec is really not that impressive. First they are known to have no BSI and low DR. and even if you forget about that reputation that 120MP sensor can only output 9.4 FPS at 10-bit. What kind of consumer camera you would want to get for this spec? Even worse they can't handle on-chip HDR even for low pixel count sensor, which is becoming standard for many industrial use. You would wonder how they can compete with Sony, who is covering all markets from very high end equipment to high end IoT these days.

In the original post from "Image Sensors World" nobody said that it would be only about one specific sensor but the new technologies (plural) of Canon's sensor development.
It was the CR post that put the 120MP sensor into this game/discussion.

Have you experienced any difference between IS on and IS off?

My experience is that IS in some lenses, occasionally will blur the picture.

This doesn't seem like a good explanation on why it is softer at 200, and not shorter focal lengths, but it should be easy to test and rule out.

I think the CPW graph actually uses lowest advertised price after rebates. It's the price currently being offered on the "street," but isn't the same as CPW's own "street price," which is an unadvertised price offered directly through CPW.

For example, the graph currently shows the 7DII at $1500, which is the lowest advertised price currently available from an authorized dealer. While the CPW "street price" of $1350 is not reflected on the graph. I'm not sure what causes those "Richter/polygraph scale-like deviations" but that might represent dealer specials, rebates, etc.

I stand corrected - I thought it was street and not MAP .. but .. MAP can't go up and down as much as graph tends to show. (sometimes up and down like a freaking yoyo).

i'm just going to be bit of a party spoiler here and point out that "ultimate 6dii" is a non sequitor.

the 6d is the entry level full frame body, therefor the feature and performance considerations are going to be along the lines of, "what are the fewest features we can put in this and still sell it purely on the strengths of being full frame?"

i think modest increases in resolution and DR are likely, and given its frequent use for landscapes, an articulating screen would definitely be nice to have, but speed, af, and video capabilities are all going to lag significantly behind the 5d and even 7d series.

The task is to AFMA the V2 Tamron 150-600 with the Tap-in console. The software used for AFMA is Reikan Focal. So far so good......

The Tap-in console allows one to enter AFMA values for the lens at various distances and focal lengths. The recommended distances are 2.2metres (minimum focal distance), 20 metres, and infinity (I picked 100 meters).
At each distance, you run an AFMA test at 150, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600mm focal length (18 Focal AFMA runs in total), enter the values into the Tap-in software, program your lens, and you are done....

I had no problems with the runs at 20 meters, but the target was too large for the minimum focal distance runs and too small for the "infinity" runs. I tried printing the target out smaller, but I ended up having to print it at 25% size and the quality through my printer is pretty bad when shrunk that far (but Focal ran!)..... I also tried to print it larger for the "infinity" runs, but it was only good for 500 and 600mm and would not work for the wider settings.

any ideas out there?

Strange conclusion. 5DS/R has up to 2 full stops better DR and better noise than the 5DIII. Plus it will focus after the 5DIII gives up so both functionality and low light results are superior with the 5DS/R.

If you have an iOS device, this is really simple. None of the mess I'm reading is required. Get the app ShutterSnitch, and you can select the Canon 5Dmk4 directly from the setup menu. I'm not sure if the app is available for Android, but it doesn't hurt to check. This is a great app. I've been using it for years.

I too am very happy with my 5D3.

It's just that 92dB is massively massively huge dynamic range. It would permanently wipe the smile off the Sony fan-bois.
Such a dynamic range would be difficult if not impossible to print without significant compression of that range.
Much like digital sequencers, synthesizers, and recorders did away with the need to be skillful in playing music and capturing the sound, so too will a 92dB DR camera do away with the need to consider the amount of light on different parts of the subject.

If it was a 10log function, then it would be 31 stops, but this is power and for that we use a 20log function and we end up with almost 16 stops.....

Hmm, as a worn out EE me thinks power is 10log, V and I being 20. Not that it matters.
