7Artisans goes wide on the RF mount

I still stand by my statement, which was correct at the time of writing.
Note all APS-C lenses have at least a 27mm image circle, which means they hit the top and bottom edge of a full-frame sensor (24mm tall). That doesn't mean all APS-C lenses qualify as "full-frame." "Full-frame" doesn't refer to the details of the image captured by the lens, only that the image circle be at least 43mm wide. You know this. We know you know this. Why not have a laugh with us, it's a funny and weird situation about the only lens I can think of that sometimes is full-frame, and sometimes isn't.

Do I need an AD-E1 adapter on my R6 Mark II for my Speed lite 600 RT II?

If it doesn't work, make sure that you are not using electronic shutter mode. It's easy to forget about this limitation if you are only using flash sparingly.
Happens to me sometimes. The R3 does support flash with electronic shutter, but not in silent shutter mode. I use silent mode sufficiently often that I have the toggle assigned to the video/stills switch.

Canon’s Nanoimprint Arrives (again)

Apparently Canon uses nanoimprint to make metalenses. There is a post on Petapixel and this (Google translated) item on a Japanese website.
From the pictures it appears to be Diffractive Optics to the max.
I don't have much excitement about eliminating the phone camera bump because it's already small enough for me. I do imagine it might be possible to be applied to full frame lenses. If it could reduce size and weight of larger and heavier lenses, I think most of us would be happy.

SmallRig Introduces SmallRig x Brandon Li Mobile Video Kit for iPhone 15 Pro Max Co-Design Edition

I’d love to see a comparison between this and the Beastcage. Both are very similar in concept and size. If both hold lenses precisely then I’d be very interested. But neither are available yet (for the 15 Pro and Pro Max for the Beastcage). I’ve had a lot of different lenses for my iPhones over the years and while all did what they were supposed to, there were problems with all of them that usually lowered the overall quality of the images, even with the Zeiss versions. A major problem was the method of attachment. Hopefully these will resolve that and we’ll see more HQ lenses become available.

Lenses with smooth/soft contrast

Well, generally, a lens that is not contrasty, nor punchy, is not a good lens. And really, it's the censor and in-camera JPG processing that is likely responsible for the too-contrasty look that you dislike.

It seems that you would be happier if you bought the worst and cheapest lenses on the market. But short of that, you can easily control contrast in post-processing.

The best EF L, RF L, Zeist, and Leica lenses, the high end Nikkor, and Sony GMs, and the most expensive...they all are known for their punchy colors, contastiness, and the so-called micro contrast attributes. The old Canon EF consumer-grade primes might do the trick for you...

It seems your issues are really non-issues...slow day?

Canon Patent Application: High Precision AF for Tilt / Shift Lenses

As a follow up to my previous statement, the current users of TS-e lenes are a very specific group of users who uderstand and value the use of a tripod to get very precise and specific results. This announcement / rumour centres around a lot of technology to try and allow the user to effectively go "tripod free". The guys who have a specific application will always use a tripod regardless due to the nature of the images that they are trying to obtain and the client's requirement. This type of phtotgraphy requires critical and careful composition and very few shots. Measure twice and cut once type of methodology. Which is very different to the nuvo riche millenial "become and expert via a 15 mins youtube tutorial" guys who will try and hand hold these lenses, not fully under stand the functions or controls and rattle off several hundred and then select the few images that actually worked later in post.

So regardelss of Canon courting the latter user types (in the hope of selling a bunch of these lenses to a bunch of rich and curious doctors), the guys who have a serious and professional interest in optically correcting their verticles or maximising their depth of field via the scheimpflug principle will not benefit much from the massive amount of computational and engineering effort that is going into these very specific lenses.
Sorry to contradict you, but I'm neither rich nor a doctor, nor a nouveau riche.;) I fing your categorizing a bit simplistic, to remain polite.
But, when visiting cities, I NEVER use a tripod, but take all my pictures of houses, churches etc.. handheld with the 24 TSE.
Same in the mountains. I simply dislike converging lines.
Most perspective errors I correct in Lightroom.
Of course, if I were a professional paid for perfect architecture shots, I'd use a tripod.

Canon will announce more lenses in 2023 [CR2]

PS: I forgot to mention this strange phenomenon only occurs with OIS switched on!
What body? I’ve taken a lot of shots with my RF 14-35 at the long end on my R8, and never experienced anything like that. The R8 lacks IBIS.

Makes me wonder if it’s a cooperative IS issue where the cooperation is actually competition. If so, it could be fixed in firmware. I admit that possibility may have occurred to me because of your use of the word phenomenon, as in Firmware v1.x fixes a phenomenon where…

Rumored RF lens roadmap update

Agreed. What I’d like would be fast (fast-ish anyway) wide and compact. 22mm f1.4, 10mm 2.8, and a 14-50 2.8 or even f2 all purpose RF-S lens.
EF-S never went faster than f/2.8. Canon offered a couple of fast EF-M primes (22/2, 32/1.4). I have no idea how well they sold, but Canon does. The M22/2 was released when the M system launched, and the M11-22 the year after. The M55-200 was 4th, the M18-150 was 6th.

It seems likely that Canon would consider the sales data from EF-M in their decisions for RF-S. This time, they prioritized the superzoom and telezoom lenses over the UWA zoom and any prime.

Add to that the availability of the RF 16/2.8, 28/2.8, and 50/1.8 that are all in the right price range for APS-C and give a wide/normal/short tele trinity of FF equivalent focal lengths, which I suspect reduces the perceived need for RF-S primes even more.

I certainly like my M22/2 and M32/1.4, and the lenses you mention for RF-S sound interesting, But I would not get my hopes too high, if I wanted them.

And I don’t understand Canon’s need to limit a few dollars worth of weather sealing, at a mass production level, to FF (L) lenses.
That few dollars eats into profit, especially at a mass production level since the margins are lower.

A rain cover is really better than relying on weather sealing and those cost only a few dollars for the user.

Canon Patent Application: Small telephoto 70mm Primes

This patent application (2023-149130)shows some interesting and fairly simplistic optics for 70, 75, and 85mm primes. The 85mm primes are unlikely since we already have the Canon RF 85mm F2.0 IS STM. It should be noted that the element designs in this patent application are far simpler than the 85mm F2.0. Most likely because of

Maybe a RF-s - Version of a 70, 80, or 85 would be a great match with my fantastic R7

New Canon Tilt-Shift lenses in the wild [CR2]

There aren't enough of the old TS-E 24mm lenses in circulation to ever "flood" the market. I'd hazard a guess that most of the buyers of any new TS-R lenses will be younger shooters who never owned a TS-E lens. It's just like a large portion of EF Super Telephoto owners are not replacing them with RF Great Whites, nor are the prices of used EF Super Telephotos reflective of a "flooded" market.
I can dream, can't I?
BTW I am one of those EF super tele owners who can see no reason to upgrade, so I do know what you mean!

Canon R100 Review

Judging by the BCN Retail "50 best sellers" list, the Japanese like inexpensive cameras. It will be interesting to see how the R100 does on that list.
I also suspect that for the longest of times, the double lens kits were sold in bulk in Japan because they could split the kit up and sell it piecemeal for a profit on ebay, etc.

not sure if they can do that now, i haven't checked prices in the longest of times.

Nikon Z 600mm f6.3 VR S Lens Announced

Weight of the f/6.3 Z super tele primes
- 600mm: 1390g
- 800mm: 2385g
vs Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM 1070g
If I was retired I'd go with these Z primes.
Weight of
- volleyball: 270 g
- basketball: 605 g
vs two-slice toaster 975 g
If I was retired I’d eat toast.

See, I can compare and choose between unrelated things with different uses, too!
