What in the heck is happening to the CR web site

I have had a problem for the last 6 Months running an i7 with windows 7 and IE. The site seems to get stuck in a loop loading the homepage until my computer crashes. The solution was to install firefox. Seems to be a few compatibility issues between CR and IE but is definitely unique to the CR Site. My own and other WP sites run no problem in IE! ???

Where did all my posts go?

neuroanatomist said:
The 'CPS is for pros' thread was locked, don't know if you were in it.

Yes I had one post in that thread.

An admin emailed me and said those posts in locked threads should still be counted. His access showed I had two comments deleted by mods in the last two months but he was at a loss as to where any others went. He did say there had been a small glitch with the site a few days ago, and as lilmsmaggie says it was weird earlier today, but no insight into where the posts went.

Not a biggie, ad as slclick pointed out, Wordpress does have a bit of a reputation it worked hard to earn. ;)

best home laser mono multifunction printer: Canon MF4890dw?

I have only used HP they are the best printers, I only recommend them, I have seen many over the years but always replace with HP and typically they last 5+ years....i have an old HP LaserJet 6 from 98 still kicking and printing just fine, I have had larger 8500's units last 5+ years with over 1,000,000 prints a year with no down time they are just simple reliable printers...oh and I must mention I do hate printers they all break except hp. The only thing worse than a printer is a mac, joking the only think worse than a printer is a copier.

Apollo Orb - Speedlite batteries

Thank you Rat, for the specific charging info!

For some reason I'm not so fond of power suppliers other than Canon intended. I'm a little bit to scared of blowing my flash up.
I think I don't need the very fast recycle times, just the assurance that I can take a lot of photos (~500?) before running out of power.

Anyway, let's try it with the CP-E4 this Saturday and see how it goes.

Kilve Shoot

I did a shoot on Saturday at one of my landscape photography haunts. I've wanted to do some portraits there for a while. The lighting wasn't the best and the wind prevented off-camera flash, so I opted for natural light (even though the woodland shots needed ISO 6400). Here is a selection from the shoot.

Another strike against UV filters

MrFotoFool said:
Years ago I used to use them. But one night I was doing city night photography and noticed the lights were being doubled (i.e. reflected) due to bouncing off the inside of the filter. This was with the old 80-200L and a cheap UV filter. Has anyone else experienced this? Anyway, I personally have never used them since (well over ten years) and have had no problems. But I am pretty careful with my stuff and do not often shoot in extreme conditions.

Yes, cheap UV filters introduce a lot of flare.

A nice filter like a B+W XS-Pro Clear 007M is virtuallly flare free, though not 100% as good as without the filter. Still, 99.9% of times you would not see the difference.

1DX Battery Issue?

Thanks for the replies.

It does seem like really strange behavior. None of my past cameras did this. Now also, like I said in the OP, I had fully charged one of the LP-E4N's the other night and checked it the next day and it was 87%. I figured maybe it's a faulty battery. But last night, I charged the other battery (100%) and just checked it now and its at 90%. WTF?

Drizzt321 said:
Oh. Interesting. I thought it'd take 2 like the grip on my 5d3 does. Shows you how much I've used a 1-series camera :o
I thought the exact same thing! That's why I ordered a second LP-E4N before my 1DX got here lol.

Canon's APS-C flagship may have a new name (not 7D Mark II)

Don Haines said:
except for the lack of AFMA, the 60D was a fine camera.... note that AFMA is back on the 70D... apparantly Canon listens...

I agree, but I'm saying the perceived 'loss of features' came from the fact that they repositioned the camera, and I'm wondering if they've "learned from their mistake" and maybe that's why they're not calling it a 7D mk II.

Honestly, the only things I don't like about my 7D are:
1) no locking wheel
2) No dual-MFA entries (like the new ones)

If it had the kidsy settings the 60D, it'd make my life easier, as I could ditch my 60D that my wife gets as a loaner when she needs something good.

Which Canon DSLR camera is best for video?

jpkcine said:
I love using Canon cameras for professional videos. But which is the best one?

Is Canon 5D Mark II / III the best camera? What about Canon 70D, 7D?
Which camera should a new user buy? Does Canon 7D Mark II make the difference in future?

All of the above...

Both 5D mark II & mark III are excellent cameras, I know the mark III has an anti-aliasing filter.
The 70D has auto-tracking or auto-focus during video, whereas the 7D doesn't.

The newer models have better low light capabilities versus the older models, and the FF image quality is better than the APS-C models.

But, and this is a big 'but,' you can use any camera and get the same result, if you have the right tools.
Depends on what you want to shoot, how you want to shoot it, etc.

The body is only a 1/4 or less of the total production. Even with the right lens and lighting, you're probably only 1/2.

Am I alone in finding lateral CA easier to correct in post than axial CA? I'd be happy to learn how to correct axial CA reliably.

Are you sure you have them the right way round?

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/lens-corrections.htm

The control panel in Lightroom-Develop-Lens Corrections-Color is all about correcting fringing, this can manifest from either lateral or axial CA. Though it can deal with blooming too, the colours are normally different. Lateral is two colours with red/magenta and green/yellow, axial is normally purple, as is blooming.

Just click the box! If that doesn't do the job very well adjusting the range and colour of the sliders will normally sort it out very well. You can even use the picker to select the exact tone of your problem CA/blooming.

Below are two images that illustrate dealing with lateral CA, the image is enlarged 200% and then a screen shot of the image and the control box.

The link you provided confirms what I said, that lateral CA is easier to correct than axial CA!

You are right, I am very sorry I obviously suffered from scrambled brain! I even provided the link that confirmed it! Too much coffee ;D

In my defense I just read your comment the wrong way round, but ended up describing it the right way round. Of course with regards Axial CA, it depends on how blurred the image looks, if the fringing is more noticeable than the blur then you can mitigate it to a large extent with de-fringing and sharpening, obviously not super effective on the graphic but probably passable on screen in a real image.
