From the manual (page 313 of the English one):

When any of the following functions are set, the <!> icon can be displayed on the lower left in the viewfinder:

- When monochrome picture style is set
- When WB is corrected
- When ISO expansion is used
- When spot metering is set

You can configure which settings trigger the ! icon (including none of them) in the custom function described on that page of the manual.

There's a difference between criticizing and complaining. I'm just getting really tired of people who don't know the difference. Remember when the 1D Mark III came out? It sucked because of the AF issues. Then it was fixed. It was the greatest camera ever. Then some time went by and no update from Canon, the camera was just AWFUL! Complaining, complaining, complaining. Then the 1D Mark IV was released. Greatest camera ever! So then Nikon releases the D3X. 1D Mark IV is just AWFUL! Canon releases the 5D Mark III. Greatest camera ever. Nikon releases the D800/E. 5D Mark III is the worst camera ever. Canon releases the 1DX. Nikon is going to release another high MP camera soon. Now the 1DX is awful because Nikon is going to release a new camera and Canon is not going to release a high MP camera for another year, rendering the 1Ds3 and 1DX as awful and inferior cameras to Nikon.

See how ridiculous this is? Complain or criticize or whatever all you want, I'm done. Thank you.

I still have my EF 85 f/1.8 and use it at times...nothing to complain about...fast AF, sharp, good bokeh for the price...I even recommend it to those who don't want to go the L route for whatever reason.

But in all fairness, as noted by justin, it doesn't have that "umph" the 85L does. This is not some L brand fawning...the images generated by the 85LII are very different in caliber from the f/1.8.

I told my wife my 70-200 2.8 was the same black telephoto I was using previously (Tamron 70-300) but without the black covering. I don't know if she really believed me or merely pretended to, but she didn't bring that up again... :-X

Women are smart...they let somethings go knowing full well what it is....sometimes out of sheer pity for this grown adult behaving like a little schoolboy and sometimes out of "I'll bide my time till he tries for that big ticket item". But they never let things go in vain.

35mm is a great focal length, and obviously very popular. I'd think it might sell well?

I regularly use a 1.4x TC on the TS-E 24 without a second thought. 24 * 1.4 = 33.6.

There's a video out there of how some hotshot photographer made a signature portrait of some expensive Florida hotel with the help of a huge team of assistants. He used a 1.4x on a TS-E 24. I think he even used a 5DII.

thanks everyone, i just bought 50mm f/1.2. still trying it see which one to keep..

not sure if i will keep both, 35 & 50 are too close..

I used B+W Multi coated (MRC, nanocoated?) or no filter at all.

Though not 100% accurate, price is a good gauge of quality. Window glass is not a good filter, so don't buy cheap filters, you will be disappointed

I don't understand what you are saying. If you are frustrated with the IQ from the 24-70, why would you consider buying one?

I have got the Cullmann D 4500-C but it seems not working if attached on my 7D: are they compatible?
MY dad bought it some years ago with 300D and it was pretty good..my question is... may I change it to recive the best results from my camera?

When I was in the CPS stand getting some free coffee at Focus on Imaging earlier this month, I had a chance to play with a 200-400 attached to a 1D X. That made it difficult to judge teh weight compared to my 300 f/2.8 L IS. Last year when I tried it on a 1D MkIV, it felt in the same weight range but it could have been down to better balance on the 1D X compared to my 7D. This time it felt significantly heavier, but I was still able to handhold it for short periods. Size-wise, I would say it is a little smaller than the 500 MkI, but without having them side by side it was difficult to be sure, as there was little in it.
In terms of release, I was talking to a young woman from marketing at the same time. her response to my question about availability, was that she hadn't heard anything, but she was confident it would be soon. Of course, the definition of soon could be tomorrow or it could be within 6 months. I also asked her about price and her response was that it hadn't yet been set, but she wouldn't be surprised if it was over £10,000.

True. And the Canon's is "Dust and Water Resistant" which may be an advantage to some.

Yes, but what I was getting at is that the 1DX and 5D3 are worse for that, than the 1Ds3.

Skip the 50D, get a 40D if you aren't needing a current body.. Regardless of the spec sheets the 50D cannot match its older sibling. The micro adjustment for different lenses is nice to have in the 50D, but honestly I have not put a lens on my 40D that has needed any adjustment.

Yeah, some of those shots are epic! I haven't been to a zoo in years, but if I do go sometime those are the shots I would want to bring home with me. Not sure if I could capture it though.

I don't really want to carry two cameras, with extra batteries and learn a new set of controls etc. but with a superzoom lens on a DSLR you could only use live view, because the view would be much too small in the viewfinder. I heard the nikon has a digital zoom so the full frame cameras can use crop lenses.

You can fit a Sigma DC lens on a Canon full frame but you have to crop afterward and it looks funny in the viewfinder.

Sigma 10-20 f4-56 DC @ 10mm

They may be, but our company sure gets a lot of stuff with a lack of critical focus. Good images, not perfectly sharp.

if u can afford the 600, then get it. the range is really nice and the exposures are excelent in ttl. i own 2 of them. u should try using a quantum turbo sc battery. u can just ut it in your ocket while u walk around or stick it on a leg of a tripod. they make a tripod clip for it. ur recycle times will be bistering fast. one of the features that is nice on the 600 is it will cut-off if it gets super hot. i don't believe that is the case with the 480. if u shoot with a quantum battery know that the flash can get really hot quickly. the battery is good for 100's of shots before u need to recharge it.

Such a creative invite in my mind would mean that it's for the 7d successor instead of the 60d's

Loved the combo on the 7D and T1i, the 200/2.8L is the one lens I have wanted back ever since I sold it.

Long lenses to also consider, Sigma 50-500 and Tamron 200-500mm, but they may not be ideal for the situation.

Give up, there isn't any recovery from the 300/2.8, especially once you've handled the mk II version.

I don't know why people keep banging on about the price,the RRP is high but street price's are 25% lower in the UK and europe..

I just picked up a refurb 70-200L f/2.8ll to play with so I'm done for now. Pretty good deal for those in need...

My money is on:

Physical controls, except for ISO
