Why won't I use Nikon... Really?

I get asked a lot about why I use Canon gear, and why I won't use Nikon...
Of course it's often framed as a choice between brands - but really it's about the lenses and what I use them for...
If anyone knows my work, I use and test a lot of tilt/shift lenses - that should be a big hint...

Anyway after another 'Why won't you use Nikon' question - I've a somewhat longer answer, going back to 2003 and when Nikon were saying that you don't need 'full frame'

Hope it's of interest ;-)

EF-R control ring query

1. The control ring function setting is stored in the camera body and is applied to every RF lens and to every EF+control ring adapter combination you mount on this body.

2. Keeping the lens adapter on the body permanently is possible, although the lens fixing lock on the adapter is less convenient to use than the lens(/adapter) fixing lock button on the camera body.
Thanks Kit
I say permanently, but I picked up both 50/1.8 & 16mm. Doubt I’ll buy more. Still cave my M stuff along with DSLR’s Aps-C & H plus’s of course Full Frane too. My EF can be adapted to all, whereas RF cannot. There lies my reasoning….for the time being.

Point and Shoot Cameras are Basically Dead

Only for very casual or specific use. For 'real' action (think diving, car or motorcycle racing, fill-in-the-blank) the more compact and rugged form factor of a GoPro over a phone is much preferable.
Also, the price of a GoPro is much less than for a phone.
The water resistance of the iPhone and other smartphones are there when the phone is dropped into the toilet, a puddle, drinks, soup, sink, shower, and other typical accident situation.

More negative press for Canon

A Director of the Institute, Dr Taishi Sugiyama, was exposed a year ago by the Guardian (a quality left-of-centre UK newspaper) to be a promoter of extremist views and he is still in place.

Reading more about him, it seems he believes it economically unrealistic and too expensive for Japan to reach its low emission targets.

Watch the SIGMA live event

I have! Its quite depressing not to have access to any 3rd party AF lenses! When I entered the RF System, Canon had not put this in place yet! I sincerely hope the change their mind about this!
Depressing is correct word. Same here, i assumed Sigma and Tamron would be a (native) option. Never could have dreamed Canon would do this. It makes me salty. Im not ready to "jump ship" as that takes effort to sell everything but Canon made me an unwilling customer. 4000 per zoom down under, they are dreaming.

Leica announces two new “compact” SL lenses

I might be wrong but these seem to be just rebranded Lumix lenses that already out on L mount.
Same number of elements, of groups, f 2 instead of f 1,8 (no meaning at all) , and the, for Leica, very "low" price is indeed more than suspicious.
At first glance, I thought these were the Apo versions, but at such a low ;) price...no chance!

Nikon has a new pancake for FF (26mm 2.8) Help with flange differences please...

The Z 26 expensive? The RF 16 is a very inexpensive lens with quite a few, call them shortcomings or consolations. The Z 26 seems to be nothing of the sort and would on my camera asap if I were a Nikonian. Everyone's mileage will vary of course. However is it still 'mileage' when driving kph?
I'm very happy with my rf 16mm. This 16 x 28 inch print is in an exhibition. The RF 24/1.8 is about the same price as the Z26mm. I'm also very happy with that lens and would have it any day over a lens 2mm longer and about 1 1/2 stops slower. As Neuro notes, just as well we have different preferences.

Simmod Lenses world first – A re-manufactured rear element for a Canon FD 85mm f1.2 L

I did. Maybe it was edited in later? ("The Simmod FD-to-EF Cine Conversion kit with brass Edmika lens mount for Canon FD 85mm f1.2 L including remanufactured rear element + JIS screwdriver costs $330 US + taxes and shipping.")

It's a reasonable price.
