This species has always been one of my favourites. When you see them in the wild the flash of purple is just insane!!
Update: New information in bold.
I have been told that the next Cinema camera Canon announces is likely called the “Cinema EOS C300 Mark III”.
Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark III information:
Most likely will be called C300 Mk III (almost 100% confirmed)
It has the same body as the C500 Mk II and uses the same accessories
Just as the C500 Mk II, it has the same optical axis as the C200 and C700 cameras, so the bridge plates, shoulder mounts, and rod supports are the same
It sports a 4K super 35 sensor with the capability of recording 4K120 without crop in Cinema RAW Light format
It also has a “dual ISO” function when recording in XF-AVC
It has an anamorphic de-squeeze function and false-color built in for monitoring (with the C300 Mk II you had to use an external monitor with these functions)
New Super35 sensor, developed from scratch
4K up to 120p with Dual Pixel AF, 2K up to 150p
Canon will also reportedly announced a new Cinema lens alongside the new camera body.
I have been told that Canon plans to continue their scheduled announcement dates for new products, including the Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, and a new Cinema camera.
The EOS R5 and EOS R6 are scheduled to be announced in the next 8 weeks or so, and a new Cinema Camera should come in April.
Announcements for new lenses may get pushed back I have been told.
The downside is ship dates are a complete unknown at this time, which I think is an expected reality.
More to come…

During the dawn of digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS Digital Rebel (EOS Kiss Digital or EOS 300D in other regions) in September 2003. This groundbreaking camera, which was...

From Canon:
We have confirmed that the following phenomenon may occur during the use of the EOS-1D X Mark III digital SLR camera. A new firmware release is planned for early April; once the new firmware is ready, we will make an announcement on our website.
We sincerely apologize to users who may have experienced inconvenience due to this issue.
Phenomenon:
When the camera is used with the electronic level set to “Show” in the viewfinder display, in rare cases, the camera may not perform normally when operating the AF-ON button or shutter button.

Workaround:
Use the “Hide” setting for the electronic level in the viewfinder display.
Setting procedure: Menu / Set-up 2 tab / Viewfinder display / Electronic level* [Hide]
*Default setting: [Hide]
Support:
In early-April 2020, we plan to release a firmware update to address the phenomenon listed above.
In an interview with Techradar, Canon’s product marketing specialist David Perry talks about the Canon EOS R5 and where it fits.
On the ergonomic decisions for the Canon EOS R5
“We’ve got the joystick on here, instead of the Multi-function bar. Everybody knows the multi-function bar on the EOS R got a mixed response – some people really got on with it, some people really couldn’t get on with it at all,” he said. “So maybe going with this is a safer bet – more people are used to the multi-controller.”
“Because this is a 5-series, more people at that kind of level will expect functions similar to what you get on a 5D.” he added.
Does the name “EOS R5” mean this is a 5D level product
“It’s aimed at that level of the market. This isn’t a replacement for the 5D Mark IV or anything like that. But this is a...

The spread of COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving situation that is of great concern to everyone. Canon’s commitment is to take proactive and proportional steps in accordance with all recommended procedures and protocols as advised by the CDC...
I posted the question of what lens you’d like to see Canon make, the only rule is it had to be somewhat realistic. No “RF 10-1000mm f/1L IS 1.4-2.0x USM” sort of suggestions.
I started with a lens I have wanted for the EF mount, and now I’d like to see it for the RF mount. I love the 28mm focal length and I’d love a nice fast L version for the upcoming EOS R5.
What's a "realistic" lens you would like to see Canon make?
I'll start.
Canon RF 28mm f/1.2L USM.

What about a super-fast wide-angle astrophotography prime?
14mm f/1.2 for astro… Doable, useful, unique, and a good compliment to the Canon Ra

How about a short fast zoom with IS?

From Lensrentals.com:
I’m qualified to talk about this subject to some degree; I take care of a ton of camera equipment, and I was a physician in my past life. And I’ve had so many requests for information about this that it seems logical to put something out, so everyone has access to it.
That being said, at this moment in time, there are NO right answers. This is my best knowledge and best opinion. Other people have other thoughts. Two weeks from now, new information may make some of this incorrect or show there are better ways to do things. If I say something today and the CDC says something else next Thursday, go with the CDC.
Finally, we’re talking about using products that can have some side effects and cause problems. What I’m going to discuss is relatively safe, but if you use one of these...
A report today suggests we may see five new EF-M lenses in the next 24 months. I have not heard anything that would corroborate this information at this time.
Rumored EF-M lenses:
EF-M 15mm f/2 STM
EF-M 52mm f/2 STM
EF-M 62mm f/4 Macro IS STM
EF-M 18-45mm f/2.8-4 IS STM
EF-M 100-300mm f/5.6-8 IS STM
With everything going on globally, there is obviously a lot of uncertainty about new products and the timelines of these products. Once I can confirm or deny anything, I’ll let you know.
MELVILLE, NY, March 19, 2020 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced that Canon Medical Systems Corporation (Canon Medical) announced the start of development of a rapid genetic testing system for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), reaffirming Canon Medical’s commitment to the basic research and development of rapid diagnostic test kits. This was in recognition of Canon Medical’s strength in leveraging its technologies in delivering practical solutions to support medical emergencies, notably by supplying Ebola rapid test kits to the Republic of Guinea in 20152, donating Ebola rapid test kits to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2019, and through the manufacturing approval and sale of...
After intensive consultation, Koelnmesse GmbH has decided to cancel photokina 2020, originally planned to be held 27 to 30 May 2020. The next instalment of the leading international trade fair for photography, video and imaging will be presented from 18 to 21 May 2022. The Imaging Innovation Conference will not be celebrating its première in 2020 as originally planned; a new date will be coordinated.
In general, the management team of Koelnmesse has decided not to organize any own events on the part of Koelnmesse until the end of June 2020. This decision is supported by the crisis management team of the City of Cologne, which also recommended in its meeting on 18.03.2020 to cancel the trade fairs during this period.
This also happens against the background of the agreement reached on 16.03.2020 between the German federal government and the governments of the German states – laying down common guidelines for dealing with the coronavirus epidemic and explicitly including the...
Looking for something productive to do this week? If you are unable to get to work or if you are looking to improve your wildlife post-processing skills in Adobe Lightroom, come spend an hour with me as I go through my own workflow, using Lightroom as the tool. This is not intended to teach you Lightroom, rather it is intended to show you how I use Lightroom for my own photographs and how to streamline the processing of images.
Do you ever go back and move a slider and everything falls apart and has to be re-done?
Do you understand how to do masking in the local adjustment tools?
Do you understand the relationship between tonal contrast and hue contrast?
Do you often use the Saturation slider to make images pop, but wonder why any other slider makes images look overblown afterward?
Come and hang out with me. Let’s have fun. I have some African wildlife photographs that need processing, so spend some time with me as we process some of them together.
