Capturing surf action with the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III

Here is a great showcase of the capabilities of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III presented by Canon Europe.
From Canon Europe:
We’re pretty excited about this one: the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III or the champion of action and wildlife photography if you like. The ferociously fast pro DSLR introduces a number of full-frame EOS DSLR firsts, including RAW video, an all-new DIGIC processor and revolutionary intelligent autofocus.
“It’s a game-changer,” says leading underwater surf photographer Ben Thouard, the first pro to shoot with Canon’s flagship pro DSLR. Teahupo’o in Tahiti, French Polynesia, is known as the most dangerous break in the world. With huge, powerful and fast-moving waves breaking over a coral reef just below the surface, it’s the ultimate professional surfing challenge. This is where Ben put the new Canon EOS-1D X Mark III to the test in a first hands-on action shoot, capturing talented Tahitian surfer Kauli Vaast from multiple...

RF 70-200mm f 2.8 Loose Innard (Suspect it is the IS?)

Hi everyone,

I recently got the RF 70-200mm f 2.8 and seems to be a "beast" of a lens in a suprisingly small package.

However I have noticed that when the camera is turned off or the lens is disconnected you can see a part wiggle quite a bit around inside the lens. I suspect this is the IS or something - and I have not noticed any problems with the lens. As the shop I bought it from currently is out of stock I cannot see if their lenses have it - so I am curious if anyone know what is is and if it is normal. (see gif)

Follow Canon Rumors on Instagram!

One of the things on the to-do checklist in 2020 is to refocus the Canon Rumors Instagram account to the site and the gear and to move the personal stuff to a different account. The same will happen with Twitter as well.
On a personal note…… the last 18 months with the new monster baby has been a time-consuming affair for everyone in our household, I do think I will get some time back to refocus on the web site and finally get some things going that I’ve wanted to do for years.
Please give us a follow if you do the Instagram thing.

Aging eyes with the 5D Mark iii and Canon EOS R/RP questions

Hello, 1st post here, hope this is the right forum for this type of query. I have been shooting with a 5D Mark iii since being an early adopter.

I shoot landscape and macro. In the past few years my eyesight has gotten much worse. I typically shoot on tripod, mirror up, Av or M, iso 100-400, 10x magnification in Live View.

I am no longer able to properly AFMA any of my lenses due to my close focus (even with glasses) vs distance issues. However using manual focus in Live View has always worked regardless of this and a good diopter adjustment has helped with the OVF and using AF. AF through the VF isn't a problem outside the AFMA back/front issues various lenses have. Most are L and pretty spot on but my 24-105 Mk2 needs work.

My shots are no longer in focus using that technique, they seem to be fine looking at the LCD but are very blurry when looked at in LR. This is using same technique and gear/software which yielded perfect results a couple years back. As for AF, it isn't reliable for Macro not helpful for long range shots such as sunsets without a 1/3 foreground to focus upon. I hope this makes sense.

My question(s) is would a current Canon mirrorless body such as the RP or R be a step towards helping me in regards to no need for AFMA, better magnification and focus peaking? I may not be able to help all my issues with a purchase but wanted to ask those in the know if I couod be significantly helped and how much of an upgrade the R and RP are to the 5D Mark iii. Or are these lateral body move purchases and the only help I would get is AFMA?

Thank you in advance, I look forward to reading your responses.

Comparing the EOS-1D X, EOS-1D X Mark II & EOS-1D X Mark III

While we wait for tomorrow’s announcement of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III, I figured I do a specs comparison of the 3 cameras in the EOS-1D X series. I think that the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is a bigger step forward than the jump we saw between the original EOS-1D X and EOS-1D X Mark II.
We don’t know all of the specifications yet. There has been no confirmation of the processors the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III uses, and we don’t know how much more advanced this new autofocus system is and there are probably more things to learn about the video features.
This is a comparison of the basic known specifications of the three cameras.

EOS R related announcements coming for CP+ [CR2]

Lost in all of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III interest is the fact that CP+ begins next month and that it will be a major show for Canon announcements.
We have been told that Canon will introduce a new EOS R camera ahead of the show in February, along with 2 new RF mount lenses.
It’s expected Canon will announce a high megapixel addition to the EOS R lineup, a camera that has been rumored for quite some time.
The same source said the EOS R Mark II is coming in 2020, but the exact time we’d see an announcement was unknown to them.
We will be getting at least one new prime and one new zoom lens announced for the RF mount and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see another round of development announcements for RF mount lenses and maybe cameras.

What is your favorite new feature of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III

We won’t get the official announcement of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III until Monday, but we do know most of what is in store when it finally does get announced.
We’re wondering what your favourite new feature of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is.
Keep in mind, we have yet to see any images from the camera, any video from the camera and we have no idea how great the all-new autofocus system is. We also have no idea what the new DIGIC processors will have in store for us. This is merely for a bit of fun while we wait.
We want to keep things positive until we have actually seen this camera in action, so please be kind on the forum thread, there are plenty of other places on the web you can go and complain.

You are going to be able to preorder the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III from our exclusive affiliate partner Adorama early next week!

Jackie

Jackie: another model for a make-up artist. Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L. Where I live we had 15mph winds so I assumed it would be the same 15 miles away so I left the 60" modifier at home and brought a 24" for both the speedlight and the dual AD200. I get to the job and no wind at all. Harsh light.

Kelly

A local make-up artist is starting to throw me some work. One of these is with the RF 50mm. The rest of the photos are from the RF 85mm. The point of the shoot was to focus on the make-up job for the MUA to add to her portfolio. So far I have done three jobs for her.
