Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark III is the next cinema camera coming [CR2]

2019 has been a quiet year for Canon’s Cinema EOS lineup, with only the announcement of the long-awaited Cinema EOS C500 Mark II.
We have been told that the next cinema camera from Canon will be the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III. However, the information we’ve received about this camera contradicts what we were told previously.
The new information says the C300 Mark III will remain a 4K Super35 camera, but with a more modular design like we see with the C500 Mark II. There will be no 8K version of the camera like previously reported according to this source.
Now about 8K, a separate source claims that Canon will announce some kind of 8K offering in 2020, but that this camera will be “built to order” and not a retail consumer product.
As for a follow-up to the Cinema EOS C100 Mark II, we have been told a few times that there will be no direct replacement for that camera.

Canon LPE6N Battery or Equivalent ?

Looking to purchase another battery and normally go for Canons but in the past have had good experience with Hahnel too and noticed they do one which is rated at 2000ma instead of Canons 1865ma , anyone used this one ? or any other good alternatives - have to say i am not that impressed with the battery life of the E6n that came with the camera its only around 60% of what i get from my 5D3 on E6 batteries and that's with wireless and gps turned off.

thank you

5Ds Mark II and hate for mirrorless

OK, I've been in the photography business for well over 30 years. Don't care if it sounds old fashioned or not, but I do not want to practice my still photography using a TV screen. Optical has a much more natural direct realistic feel to taking pictures. I've been waiting forever for a new high megapixel full frame DSLR to come out like a 5Ds (or sr) Mark II and now I hear junk about a mirrorless instead. I NEVER plan on buying a mirrorless. Am I the only one that feels this way????? If so, I'll stay proud of it. I feel camera manufactures are pushing us towards Mirrorless for only one reason, to sell more cameras to people falling for it. I'm sure someone responding to this question will list all the attributes to mirrorless, but let me be clear....I don't care. In my opinion Optical out weighs them all.

If you can only afford one L prime- which one do you choose?

Been thinking about pulling the trigger on the RF 85 as there is a sale on here in Australia. Although it is a focal length I would use I’m hesitant because to be honest, as expensive as they are I can probably only afford one RF L prime. I shoot primes mostly and can’t afford to shell out for the whole set when they all come out.

I realise everyone’s use case is different (mine is primarily nightscapes and family/portrait) but was curious if anyone had thoughts on this (and whether it is a lens that is released in RF yet or not)

Thanks!

A new camera appears for FCC certification, likely the IVY REC

A new camera has appeared for certification with the FCC. The new camera is described as a “Digital Still Image Video Camera” and has the model FV-100 on the submitted product label.
Beyond the label, there isn’t much more information given about the camera. All external images of the camera will not be available until March 19, 2020, which happens to be a Thursday, which is the day of the week Canon usually announces products in North America.
The camera in question will be manufactured in China, so I would bet it’s some kind of entry-level camera such as an IVY REC, which Canon has crowdfunded for.
We expect the bigger Canon announcements to happen in February of 2020 ahead of CP+.

Africaraw.com: 2019 trip photos by old ageadventurers now posting

My wife & I are editing & posting our photographs of our 2019 3 month feb-apr trip to Etosha & Kgalagadi national parks in South Africa. The Kgalagadi was very dry but we had some interersting leopard photos. Etosha was full of waterhole encounters: Lion families, rhino families and elephants + calves +++ etc etc. These published photos are abot 1/3 of the expected total.

Many of the best one's are by my wife. I seem to be just the driver these days. My wife sits in the back passenger seats & gets the action before I can stop, position & shoot with my window mount. She prefers the bean bag & for instant encounters there are definite adventages. Thus more & more I prefer to just sit at promising water holes with lenses mounted on the gimbal until the animals come to me rather than drive & search the deserted roads.

The photographs are in these folders: www.africaraw.com/WildlifePhotography/2019-Photographic-Safari
Double click to open each folder & enlarge thumb nails to screen size photos

Trust me, I'm a scientist (and not an advertising exec or journalist)

It's true after all, scientists are the most trusted group, and advertising executives are down there with Government ministers and politicians. Average members of the public don't do too badly either, well above journalists. Pity Youtubers weren't ranked. So when it comes to considering the merits of cameras and lenses, you know whom to trust more!

Lens recommendations for EU trip

I'll be taking a 6D and 5Dsr, plus a limited number of lenses. I need input on which to take besides the 24-105 f/4. Options: 16-35 f/4, 85 f/1.8, 70-200 f/4 or f/2.8, 100-400 II. No tripod and no speed light, and my choices have to fit in my backpack along with a 4 pound laptop. We land in Rome, and in a day and a half hop on a cruise ship. Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, etc. At present I am not planning on taking my 60D, but that is a possibility. More reach, sort of, but with the cropping capability of the 5DsR I don't see the point. In previous trips to the UK and France, while I had two bodies with me, I generally only carried the 6D and 24-105. My wife will be in a wheel chair this time, so I cannot carry the kitchen sink.

Canon xf model updates xf400

I was looking to order a new xf400. I know the upgrade cycle is much longer than the EOS series of mirrorless and SLR cameras, but was curious about the xf400 upgrade cycle. Doe we know about when they update that line of camera? I know the XA line was updated, but they don’t meet my current desires.
really looking for something to shoot youth rugby, football and volleyball, but more important is wakeboard videos from the boat. Need decent image stabilization. Currently have Fuji xt3 and ronin stabilizer. thought about waiting for updated EOSR with image stabilization. But thinking camcorder makes more sense with powered zoom.

It's official - the Tamron 35/1.4 is the best 35mm you can buy

Roger at Lens Rentals has been testing a few 35mm lenses, and the new Tamron 35mm is the best of the bunch - if you like MTF charts. Actually I have heard that the lens renders rather beautifully too.

I'm one of those guys who'd never touch a third party lens with a barge pole, until that is a couple of years ago I decided to have a punt on the Tamron 45/1.8 as the lens appeared to be exactly what I wanted and Canon didn't make it, despite having patented an almost identical optical formula a few years before. Well the lens is just superb, assuming that your definition of good doesn't mean lack of aberrations. The tap-in console I presume and hope will make the lenses future proof. Incidentally both the Tamron 45 and 85 are AFMA 0 at all distances on my 5DS bodies - unlike some of my Canon lenses......

Trouble is my EF 35/2 IS is so strong I couldn't really warrant a 1.4, maybe, perhaps..........

Anyone have the Laowa 15mm f2 for RF mount?

I realise it may be too early to ask, but was curious if anyone has this lens. It’s been available for Sony e mount for a while but it looks like there may be some differences, for example for rf it has 5 not 7 aperature blades. I’m interested in the good control of flare (small front element that takes filters), defined sun stars, and the different possibilities given the shallow depth of field combined it’s decent close focus abilities (.25x).

New Canon Binoculars / not rumor Just FYI

8 x 20 and 10x 20 IS. Compact. Under a pound. Packable.
CR123A lithium battery, not AA. I could wish for a bit larger objective lenses, but these are, as it were, M series binoculars. As in compact is the priority.

Lake series with the 50 STM

Went out today because I had some anger to swallow.
Thought it would be a good way to transform this into creativity and to try out my new EF28 IS.
Went to the forrest lake to fint out that because of that anger I accidentally took my 50 STM with me.
Here are the results of this mis-take, OOC with DPP lens correction. Nothing more.
5D3, 50 STM, ISO 100 to 400 , f from 1/5.6 to 1/8.

Critics welcome.

Patent: Canon RF mount modular CINE camera appears in drawings

An RF mount cinema camera of some kind is likely an inevitable evolution in Canon’s ecosystem when such a camera will appear is unknown at this time. I imagine the lens lineup needs to be a bit bigger before we see this sort of camera come to market.
Canon News has uncovered a patent that shows such a camera in great detail. The patent itself is related to reducing the size of the forced air cooling smaller and more efficient, therefore reducing the size of the camera.
As you’ll see below, the technical drawings for this camera are quite detailed. It shows a very modular camera design, it looks to be about the size of the XC series of cameras. We believe the Cinema EOS lineup will be moving to more modular designs as we’ve seen in the recent EOS C500 Mark II.

R viewfinder question

I am about to get myself an R and the 28-80 lens as well as the control ring adaptor.
As Brian at TDP says, it's worth to buy the body just to get the lens.

I do events and I currently have a 5D3 (primary camera), 70D (backup and HD video) as well as an M5 for fun. My brother-in-law's old 60D has bitten the dust and I'm giving him my 70D.

I've played with R's in store, and I have to say that I hate the EVF. Just like my M5, the colours are grossly oversaturated and the brightness is too high and the contrast is terrible, IMHO.
When I use the M5, I use the EVF just to frame the shot and check on exposure but I find it useless to really see what the finished photos look like.
Is it possible to do any adjustments to the EVF on the R? If not, then it could only ever be a backup camera for me as I know my left eye would be in a very sorry state if I did a 16 hour wedding with it up to my eye.
