It looks like Sigma has 3 lens announcements coming later this month or in June. We're going to see one full-frame lens, and that'll be the 200mm f/2. Sadly, we won't be getting that for the RF mount.

I’ve noticed during a current trip that the control wheel on the back of the R5II has become sticky when turned - ie it doesn’t spin freely. I compared this to an example in Bic Camera that spun freely.

Anyone else noticed similar?

After a trivial (by my standards) drop from about 2.5 feet (it landed flat on the ground), my RF 200-800 broke in half. I have dropped numerous Canon products over the years, and this was the first one that broke. The lens is 14 months old. Canon is charging me $959 USD (half the cost of a new one) to fix it. I was hoping that they would give me better support, given the design flaw of this lens. For those of you that are skeptical there is a design flaw: if you saw what little was holding the two halves of that lens together, you might change your mind. I have no complaints about the (prior) performance of the lens. I will never take this lens on another trip without having my 100-500 as a backup. If you are new to this issue, see:

This ultra-wide angle lens proves a compact, portable package for a fair price. A FF equivalent of 16-29mm offered in such a small size makes it a perfect travel companion.
The aperture is not wide and you need some light. The optics is far from L quality. But I am positively surprised, what results you can get with it.

As we know, Canon surprised us with the RF 28-70mm f/2.8 IS STM in September and followed it up with an RF 16-28mm f/2.8 IS STM in January. That gave us two small and affordable constant aperture zoom lenses for full-frame cameras.

What are your experiences shooting through fencing and netting? A local college baseball team I shoot for has netting throughout their new stadium.

I was thinking of putting together a how-to video and was just wondering what other have experienced.

I find that that 2 main things help:
1. The bigger your front element is the more it tends to wash out the obstructions. Shoot with the aperture wide open obviously, but a lens with a large front element is going to do better than one with a small from element. Of course a small front element might be able to poke though a hole, but that's not really shooting through it.
2. Get the camera as close to the obstruction as possible. I prefer to use a lens hood and actually press the hood against the fence.

Here is a worst case example, shot with a 200-400mm f4 lens. At 400mm and F4. Lens hood against the fence.

Tamron is working on some fairly unique zoom lenses for full-frame sensors. While optical designs don't generally mention lens mounts, we cannot comment on any of these being future RF mount lenses.

Hi all.

I recently obtained a "Sigma AF APO 500mm F/4.5" telephoto lens, its a Nikon F-mount so I have paired it with
the Nikon D70s body that I have used once or twice when covering landscapes.

I mainly shoot with Canon lens and camera bodies but couldn't pass up the opportunity when the lens was offered at $30 AU, on E-bay they retail second hand from $900-$1000AU

Hopefully I will get a chance to do some bird photography but will need to locate my monopod as they is definitely some weight with this lens.

I regularly shoot water birds with a friend who shoots with a Sony A1 and 400/2.8 with 1.4x. This has tempted me to replace my RF 100-500L with an adapted EF 400/4 DO ii, probably most often with a 1.4x (either RF and modified adapter which I have or an EF 1.4x iii). I have an RF 70-200 to cover shorter focal lengths (albeit on a different body). I see the 400 DO as providing benefits in low light and in bokeh with cluttered backgrounds common in wetlands.
A 400/2.8 is outside my ideal budget, but is certainly too bulky for travel. An EF 200-400/4 (with inbuilt 1.4x) is too long and heavy. A Sigma EF 500/4 is similar in size to the 200-400.
Second hand EF 400/4 DO lenses are rare here in NZ and command a premium over the 200-400.
AlanF previously posted positively about his 400 DO lens.
So I'd appreciate thoughts on moving from an RF 100-500L to an EF 400 DO. Or maybe an EF 300/2.8 with 2x.

Back in February I was shooting a lot of birds in flight with my R6 MkII and the RF 100-800mm andEF100-500mm lenses.

• My setup was pretty straight forward. Shooting in T mode with a fairly fast shutter speed and Servo AF
• Shooting in either Fast or Fast+ burst mode
• Using Back Button Focus with Eye Detection on the AF-On button

I would be following a bird and do a few short bursts of just a few seconds and suddenly the camera would start firing off shots even after I took my finger off the shutter release button. It was ramdom but seemed to happen every 2nd or 3rd burst. Typically the camera fired of 8-12 shots before stopping.

I sent it to CPS in Virginia, the camera was under warranty and I am a Gold member. After a week they sent it back stating they could not replicate the issue. They suggested if it continued to send it back but try to take a video of it doing this. So, when I got it back and reset all my custom settings it did it right off the bat so I had my wife sit next to me with her iPhone and do a video. I called the CPS rep telling him it was doing it again and I had video so he sent me a label to ship it back. They had it for over a week and then shipped it back to me saying they replaced the body top cover which includes the shutter button.

I reset the camera to my settings and went out to shoot a grandson's soccer game and it did it almost immediately. I really wondered if they had test fired it before shipping it back. So, for a 3rd time I contacted CPS and they sent me a label to ship it back to Virginia. After a week, I contacted them complaining that I needed my camera for several shoots coming up so they sent me an R6MkII loaner body. And guess what? After I set the camera up in the same method and started shooting it did it again, just kept firing of shots.

After contacting the CPS rep once again and telling him that the loaner also did it, he said they would contact Canon-USA and possibly Canon-Japan. A few days later he said that Canon-USA said it was most likely a firmware bug and they would work with the engineers at Canon-Japan. He said Canon-USA said to return my unrepaired camera and get the loaner back. I told him, no way. I figured keeping the loaner would give me some leverage to get my camera issue figured out. It's taken 3 months and 3 trips to CPS in Virginia and I still don't have my body back. And to top it all off, my one year warranty expired last week so I told the rep they should extend my warranty as I am worried that if they decide they need to work on the camera it won't be covered and I will have to pay. He said he would do his best, maybe extend the warranty by 6 months or something.

One concern I have is if they release the R6 MkIII they might have less incentive to do a firmware update for the MkII.

With the Nikon Z9 still standing as one of the most capable mirrorless flagships on the market, attention is now turning to its successor. According to multiple sources the Nikon Z9 II is expected to be announced in late 2025, with shipping projected for Q1 2026.
