We all know the R5 M2 get hot but this is a bit absurd

I went to an awards ceremony yesterday to shoot a few pictures of graduating seniors in a temperature controlled indoor gym. It was about 70F inside and I was sitting with my R5M2 on and not shooting pictures for about 30 minutes, raise the camera up to take my first shot and already at 3 bars on the temperature gauge. This seems absurd to me that an idle camera would run so hot. I have the fan grip for it but do not use it all that often, guess I need to make it a permanent addition after seeing this.

Canon EOS R7 Mark II: Minor Tweaks or a Major Transformation?

Canon’s EOS 7D series once held a proud spot in the bags of wildlife and action shooters — a true “baby 1D” for those who needed flagship performance with reach. And now, rumors are swirling that the Canon EOS R7 Mark II might pick up that mantle. In February, Craig suggested that the R7 II would deliver something like a baby R1.

R3 with EF400mm F2.8+ 2x extender

I tried the combination of a R3 and an EF400mm-F2.8 (with RF adaptator) with a 2X version III extender
A combination who give a 800mm F5,6 and the result is superb!!

I tried also the same combination with an 1,4x extender added
A combination who give a 1120mm F8 and the result is very good!!

For the animal domain in low light, these combinations are perfect

Newsletter frequency daily?

I'm now getting the main site newsletter daily. 3 times the last 3 days. Sorry but that is just crazy and will make me unsubscribe.

I've been subscribed to the newsletter for years and it usually brings me back to the site. But why would I want a daily newsletter for Canon Rumors (or any site) in my emails? Do the marketing guys think that will help the site? Less is sometimes more. Sending a newsletter daily (with ads) will also ruin your deliverability.

Note that I'm not talking about forum emails. Those are transactional, and different. And I visit the forum almost daily, rather religiously.

EDIT: And not to be ungrateful, thanks for keeping the lights on here. Just pains me to see someone shoot themselves in the foot like this. I do hope it's just a fluke or misconfiguration and you'll get it figured out.

Plan Ahead: Sigma USA Price Increase Coming June 2

Sigma is going to be increasing prices on their entire camera and lens lineup on June 2, 2025 in the USA. Stock that is already in the USA will not be affected by this price increase, but it's probably best to purchase new Sigma gear before June 2, as supplies may start to deplete before that date at the current prices.

Canon RF 300-600mm f/5.6L IS USM: What to Expect and When It Might Land

As we published last month, the long-rumored Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM appears to have been shelved. Hobbiest photographer upgrading from R8

I'm a hobbiest photographer who mainly shoots rec sports (outdoor football, outdoor baseball both mostly daytime) and events for friends and family. I've been shooting with an R8 (upgraded from a T6i) for the past year and change. I've found a few things that annoyed with me with the R8.

First of which was the battery life. I have 3 batteries and I can go through them like water sometimes not even lasting an hour.

Another gripe I have is I just can't get used to using the touch screen to adjust my focus point on the fly. I feel like a joystick would make my life so much easier.

Some smaller but still anooying things are that the R8 has a pretty small buffer, rolling shutter is terrible, and when I'm out in the sun I've had it overheat a few times even without recording video or taking that many photos.

All that being said I've really enjoyed shooting on it and I can definitely improve on technique but as a hobby where I just want to not worry about all those things listed above and just shoot, I'm interested in upgrading to either a used R3(been seeing some around the 3-3.3k range) or possibly a used R5( cheapest I've seen is 3.5k) money isn't the biggest issue but I want to make sure I get the best (for me) and renting would be too expensive to smtest out both.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Edited: I totally meant to write r5mk2 but I appreciate all of the feedback and definitely still helpful

Is Your Canon EOS R5 Mark II Autofocus Affected by the Latest Firmware?

I’ve been using the Canon EOS R5 Mark II since launch, and I love this camera. With firmware 1.0.0, autofocus performance was incredible—snappy, confident, and accurate. It tracked subjects better than anything I’ve used before. But after updating to firmware 1.0.3, something changed—and not for the better.
