My first experience 7RIII / A7III AF accuracy & Speed on Canon 600mm lens?

Hello!
Back from the middle east, I´m now having plenty of time to shoot photos.
I was offered an nearly unused Alpha 7R III from an friend, who switched to filming.

So, I´m thinking on buying this camers, for time lapse (mirrorless). And buying an Metabones 5 adapter.

My question: How does it perform on an 600mm II lens (Af accuracy and AF speed)?
Any practical knowledge of Canonoams out there?

Thank you very much for your efforts

<p><!--more--></p>
<p><strong>Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 FE Zoom</strong></p>
<p>This lens is currently the widest zoom lens available for Sony full frame E-mount cameras. Designed primarily for travel photography, Venus optics have managed to compress the size to smallest in its class, less than 10 inch (<10cm) and only 1.1 pounds (<500g). The 102° (18mm) to 130° (10mm) angle of view provides flexibility for photographers to compose landscape or architecture photos with ease. The lens houses with 14 elements in 10 groups with 2 aspherical elements & 1 extra-low dispersion element to deliver exceptional performance. It can focus as close as 15cm for some mini-macro shooting. A rear filter slot is included to fit with 37 mm filter. Click/clickless aperture can be toggled by the switch on the lens barrel.</p>
<p><strong>Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO</strong></p>
<p>Followed by the success of the Laowa 60mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro, the 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro is the 2nd member of Laowa 2:1 macro line-up. This new 100mm lens can cover full frame sensor size and focus from 2:1 magnification to infinity. The wide magnification range allows macro photographers to capture subject at any sizes. This 100mm portrait lens also features an apochromatic (APO) characteristic that no chromatic aberration can be found. The 12 elements in 10 groups optics design delivers a crystal sharpness image in both macro and tele distances. Canon EF / Nikon AI / Pentax K / Sony FE mounts are available.</p>
<p><strong>Laowa 17mm f/4 GFX Zero-D</strong></p>
<p>This is currently the widest available native lens option for Fujifilm G-mount cameras. The new Laowa 17mm f/4 GFX has a field of view equivalent to 13mm in 35mm format (113°). Featuring a close-to-zero distortion and 86mm filter thread, this lens is ideally suited for landscape, architecture & interior photography. The 21 elements in 14 groups design with 2pcs of aspherical & 3pcs of Extra-low dispersion elements successfully help to control the distortion & chromatic aberrations to the minimal.</p>

Specifications can be found in separate email attachment.</p>
<p><strong>Availability</strong></p>
<p>All four lenses will be available for trial at Venus Optics’ booth (T225) in Beijing P&E Imaging fair during 3rd-6th May 2019. They are expected to be shipped in mid/late 2018. Exact shipping date and pricing are to be confirmed.</p>

Patent: Lens Mount Adaptor For Different Flange Distances

HTML:
<a href="http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/mirrorless-camera-rumours/">Northlight</a> has uncovered a <a href="http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?PageNum=0&docid=20180107098">USPTO</a> patent application that shows a design for a lens mount adaptor that allows for different flange distances with different adaptors.</p>
<p>The patent covers a lot of options, so this may be part of many more patents that deal with adaptors and lens mounts.</p>
<p>This patent also covers options for including lenses in the adapter for both wide and tele conversion.</p>
<p>Obviously there could be some full frame mirrorless camera implications with this sort of patent.</p>

7Dmkii + 1.4xii

Curious if anyone has experienced any focusing issues combining a 7Dmkii with a 1.4xii extender on a 70-200L 2.8ii lens? I've shot sports for years, something north of 500k images so I do have a little experience but yesterday was the first time I used my new 7dmkii in this combination and find a fairly high OOF rate. I'm often shooting bursts of 3-7 frames and in some cases, only -some- of the same burst images are OOF, and in other cases the entire burst is. In the past with a 1Dx or a 5Dmkiii, I will have some of course, but this almost feels like a setup issue or even more possibly, a conflict between the two pieces. The OOF rate is probably around 10-20% if I had to put a umber on it where if I use a different lens like say, a 100-400L v.2, it's more like 3-5%.

The 1.4xii + 70-200 combo on the markiii doesnt have the same issues - it's only the 7D that is seeing it happen so I think I can rule out the lens and extender.

Thoughts?
Experiences...?

Fear Not, Canon Will be at Photokina 2018

HTML:
<p>It turns out <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/is-canon-pulling-out-of-photokina-2018/">last week’s report from DIYPhotography</a> that Canon might be skipping Photokina 2018 in September isn’t the case.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.photokina.com/photokina/Press/Press-Releases/index.php?aktion=pfach&p1id=kmpresse_photokinae&format=html&base=&tp=k3content&search=&pmid=kmeigen.kmpresse_0240_2018pm5_e&start=0&anzahl=10&channel=kmeigen&language=e&archiv=">Photokina has confirmed</a> that Canon will be attending the biggest photography trade show in Cologne, Germany which begins on September 26, 2018.</p>
<p>We will be attending the show and we expect a couple of big announcements from Canon.</p>

Sony users need to upgrade to a7iv, a9ii, and a7Riv

When I was using the Sony A7R3 I noticed light vertical stripes on a couple of photos, but I figured it was just me or some wierd camera setting, since there are so damned many and I don't care to read about every single one.

It turns out that this time, it wasn't actually my incompetence! I saw this on dpr, and frankly, I was shocked:

https://www.dpreview.com/news/6974141509/sony-striping-heres-the-fix

The attached photo is from dpr and is a very good example of the striping. Evidently, it is from the columns PDAF pixels, and it's particularly evident when there is both backlight and flare. When you go to the pixel level, it is quite apparent, and it will print out that way on larger prints, though it is less apparent on the A7Riii because there are relatively fewer PDAF columns.

So, the good news for Sony users? There's a fix! Mostly. Sort of. It's by the guy who created the Sony compressed raw format. But (a) it only works on compressed RAW and (b) you need to UPLOAD YOUR FILE TO A WEBSITE and download the corrected one. LOL.

Based on Sony's firmware history, the chances of a first party fix are about as good as POTUS45 confirming pee tapes. So Sony users can now look forward to snapping up next year's a7iv, a9ii and a7Riv cameras, that will probably have the fix built in :D

Attachment is from dpr, and is a perfect example of "striping".

Whatever else Canon's mirrorless cameras do... they won't do that.

<p>The <a href="https://photorumors.com/2018/04/17/new-sigma-70-200mm-f-2-8-lens-rumored-to-be-announced-for-photokina-in-september/">latest report</a> says that the long rumoured Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG HSM OS Sport series lens will finally make an appearance ahead of Photokina, which takes place in September of 2018.</p>
<p>At least <a href="https://photorumors.com/2016/05/18/latest-patents-sigma-70-200mm-f2-8-dg-os-hsm-sports-canon-mirrorless-lenses-and-more/">one patent for a new 70-200mm f/2.8</a> optical formula from Sigma exists.</p>
<p>We’ve also been told in the past that the 70-200mm f/2.8 OS Sport could be announced alongside a 70-200mm f/4 OS contemporary lens.</p>
<p><em>More to come…</em></p>

late 2014 27" iMac 5K with 1TB of flash storage HHD installation

I have a late 2014 27" iMac 5K with 1TB of flash storage. Because my model also came with a standard HHD is there room in my iMac to add an HHD and have two internal hard drives? If so what else do I need to buy besides the hard drive? I know the display is attached with adhesive and will need to be careful taking it off, but it seems like there should be just a loose SATA cable hanging there waiting for a HHD to be installed. Am I correct. I want to make sure before I take it apart. Thank you for your help.

35 L vs. 35 L II

Hello,
i'm thinking about switching from the 35 L to the 35 L II.
The IQ of my 35 L is good enough for my needs, i know how to use it to avoid it's weaknesses / can live with them.
But sometimes i have a bad hit rate, espescially in low light, with moving kids and light direkt into the lens.
Then the AF hunts and i get a miss - sometimes really bad, sometimes better. But not the way the lens delivers in 90%.

I don't want to miss more of the moments of my kids i try to catch.

Does the 35 L II focus faster, hits better in such situations:
- low light (i need 1.4 vey often)
- direct light, often close to the selected AF point

How is the AF-speed for moving subjects between MFD and 6 ft? Is it faster than the 35 L?

Thank you very much for your help.
lightthief

The attached pictures are fine, but those were 1 out of 10 wrong focused pictures (because of direct light, speed of kid)

Two Prosumer Mirrorless Camera Bodies in Development [CR2]

HTML:
<p>We’re told that Canon is actively developing two “prosumer” mirrorless cameras, both of which are full frame.</p>
<p>We’re told that we’ll see the flagship mirrorless camera announced first, and that a lower tier second camera would come 6 to 8 months after the flagship begins shipping.</p>
<p>The same source has also told us that Canon has a “a really nice solution for EF lenses on the full frame mirrorless body”, which doesn’t sound like a native EF mount is coming. That said, we’ve heard other people say a similar thing about EF lenses on the full frame mirrorless camera, but no one has come out and confirmed whether or not the body will be EF mount or something else.</p>

A New PowerShot Camera Registered With FCC

HTML:
<p>It looks like a new PowerShot camera has been registered with the necessary agencies, including the FCC. <a href="http://www.nokishita-camera.com/2018/04/powershot-sx730-hs.html">Nokishita thinks</a> it’s a replacement for the PowerShot SX730 HS. The current camera was announced in April of 2017, so I don’t think a replacement is imminent.</p>

USB Charger for LPE6 batteries.

I was asked in another post about my USB charger for my LPE6 batteries.
The charger works well, although not as fast as the Canon charger, but can be plugged into a USB port so you can charge from your car or a backup power supply, and it charges 2 batteries at once.
Because it doesn't have a chip in it, it will also charge the cheap, unchipped, no-brand batteries too.

It was given to me and was originally bought from a cheap Chinese website.

Here's some photos of it.

MacKeeper Popup

Hi! I've been having trouble this morning with a MacKeeper pop-up advert. Every time I try to go to a forum site a full screen MacKeeper ad pops up. It comes out of nowhere. It's just there and I can't see any button to push to get rid of it. It has rendered the site almost unusable. Please get it to stop. If it continues, I won't be able to use your site. It's that bad. Thanks. I love Canon Rumors but this is... >:(

Patent: Panning Assist Using Image Stabilization

HTML:
<p><a href="http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/canon-camera-rumours-and-info/">Northlight</a> has uncovered a <a href="http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?PageNum=0&docid=20180103207">USPTO</a> patent that discusses using image stabilization to compensate for panning errors.</p>
<p><strong>Northlight explains:</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>The idea is to use the IS system to compensate for panning errors as well as camera shake. This needs movement vectors calculating for the whole image area.</p></blockquote>
<p>This is definitely an interesting idea and use of existing IS technology.</p>
