Would it be a downgrade in features / results from a 5D IV to a 6D II?

I miss the articulating screen from my 80d when i upgraded to the 5d IV.

Was uesful for my applications particuarly with video.

Keeping the 24-70mm II L lens i have unless you guys recomend somethign else for that too.

curious if i would lose features or quality of photos and video with the supposed "downgrade".

i dont care for the dual card slots either.

Patent: Cinema EOS Camera With Hybrid OVF/EVF Viewfinder

HTML:
This has certainly been a very busy week for interesting patents. <a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-patent-application-cini-eos-with-hybrid-ovfevf-viewfinder">Canon News found another</a> interesting one, it looks to be a development of an OVF/EVF viewfinder for a Cinema EOS camera.</p>
<p><strong>From <a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-patent-application-cini-eos-with-hybrid-ovfevf-viewfinder">Canon News</a>:</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>The mirror is cut out around the sensor, and an EVF is used to “fill in the hole” where the actual super-35 sized hole in the mirror is. The OVF presentation wraps around, or surrounds the camera EVF view so that when looking through the viewfinder, you have both the EVF view in the center, and a larger mirrored OVF view surrounding it.</p>
<p>This gives the cinematographer to see “beyond” the super-35 angle of view that you would be limited to when using a traditional video camera.</p></blockquote>
<p>We know another Cinema EOS camera is coming later in 2018 and it’s possible we’ll see this appear in a consumer product. It seems to be a pretty well developed technology.</p>

Patent: A New Canon EF 14mm 2.8L Optical Formula

HTML:
<p><a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-patent-application-for-a-14mm-28l">Canon News</a> has uncovered a new patent application (Japan Patent Application 2018-054988) for an EF 14mm 2.8L optical formula.</p>
<p>An update to this lens is probably overdue, especially with all of the other 14mm options out there now.</p>

Patent: Canon EF-S 18-300 f/3.5-5.6 IS Optical Formula

HTML:
<p>I’ve never been a big fan of Canon’s EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (terrible zoom creep, dust collector, not all that good optically) and would very much like to see a replacement, which I think is long overdue.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-superzoom-aps-c-patent-application">Japan Patent Application </a><a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-superzoom-aps-c-patent-application">2018-54990</a> shows another optical formula for an EF-S 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6 IS.</p>
<p>We believe this lens will be coming some time in late 2018 or early 2019.</p>

Patent: Canon Application for a New Tilt Screen for the EOS-M

HTML:
<p><a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-patent-application-new-tilt-screeen-mechanism-for-eos-m-cameras">Canon News</a> has found a patent detailing a new tilting screen mechanism for the EOS-M cameras. This possibly takes up less room that a full articulating screen, and also doesn’t force you to always have the screen to the side.</p>

Patent: New Canon Teleconverters

HTML:
Northlight has found a <a href="http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?PageNum=0&docid=20180095255">USPTO</a> patent showing new Canon teleconverters in development.</p>
<p>Three different teleconverters are mentioned:</p>
<ul>
<li>TC 1.4x</li>
<li>TC 1.8x</li>
<li>TC 2.0x</li>
</ul>
<p><a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-patent-application-new-teleconverters">Canon News</a> has also uncovered the teleconverter patent in Japan. Japan Patent Application 2018-54991</p>

Patent: EF-S 10mm f/2.8 BR and EF 35mm BR Optical Formula

HTML:
<p><a href="https://www.canonnews.com/canon-patent-application-10mm-28-aps-c-br-and-35mm-14-br">Canon News</a> has found a BR related patent application (Japan Patent Application 2018-54914) that deals with a variant of the 35mm lens, but interestingly enough also contains a 10mm APS-C patent embodiment.</p>
<p>We’re obviously not getting a new EF 35mm f/1.4L lens, but the EF-S 10mm f/2.8 prime is interesting. People have wanted a wide angle prime for APS-C for as long as I can remember, but I’m not sure we’ll ever see such a lens come to market.</p>

Patent: A New EF 50mm f/1.2L Optical Formula Referenced

HTML:
<p><a href="http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/canon-ef-lenses-rumours-and-news/">Northlight</a> has also uncovered a <a href="http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?PageNum=0&docid=20180095256">patent from the USPTO</a> showing improved chromatic aberration and field curvature. A bunch  of prime lenses, including a new EF 50mm f/1.2L (shown above) optical formula are referenced.</p>
<span id="pty_trigger"></span>

Patent: A New Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS Optical Formula Referenced

HTML:
<a href="http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/canon-ef-lenses-rumours-and-news/">Northlight</a> has uncovered a lot of <a href="http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?PageNum=0&docid=20180095242">new lens patents from the USPTO</a>, some of the more interesting ones include new glass types for various long lenses, including an example for a new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. A lens <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/a-new-ef-70-200mm-f-2-8l-is-iii-still-a-possibility-in-2018-cr1/">we think still has a chance at coming later this year</a>.</p>
<p>This patent centers around the use of glass with high dispersion and negative anomalous dispersion.</p>
<p>Just a reminder, expect to see the <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/the-canon-ef-70-200mm-f-4l-is-ii-is-coming-in-april-cr3/">EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II to be announced this month</a>.</p>
<p>A bunch of other optical formulas for long lenses, including an EF 400mm f/2.8L IS are <a href="http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?PageNum=0&docid=20180095242">included in this patent application</a>.</p>

Be careful with moving your PRO-1000 printer!

According to this, if the printer senses movement, it initiates the same ink dump that you're "supposed" to do any time you transport the printer. This could mean several hundred dollars worth of ink dumped into the waste cartridge.

I love this printer, but it sure doesn't seem to make any compromises on print quality, even if it costs a ton of ink. Hopefully this would not happen if the printer is turned off and unplugged before moving it. Very glad to come across this, as I just ordered paper that will require using the manual feed tray on the back, and I might need to move the printer to access it better.

Canon EF 16-35mm F2.8L IS - Strongly Desired

Hi there!

Has anyone heard any rumors of this lens being developed? Perhaps alongside the 24-70mm F2.8L IS...

This would be my do-all lens, and the first lens I ever pre-order.

I was going to get a Zeis 15mm f2.8 for Astro shots but realised a 16-35mm f2.8 would be far more versitile as I would use it for:

  • Milky Way and Aurora shots
  • Landscapes / Night Landscapes
  • Nature video clips for screensavers - hence optical IS strongly desired
  • Video clips of weight lifting
  • Other general purpose photos and video clips

The video features of the 1DX Mark II are a strong part of the reason I bought it. (Still waiting for the C-Log firmware update though - and I sent a message to Canon asking for it to happen)

I know Tamron makes one of these, but I'm after a Canon-L-series-superb-quality-keep-forever type lens.

Mike.
