Is This The Man Behind the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III Hoax?

HTML:
I think we’ve found the man responsible for the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III hoax from last week. He’s an Itallian vlogger named Breccia and he has a history of this sort of thing. He was behind the Google Ultra Pixel hoax in September as well as a PS4 Slim hoax before that.

If you check out the rear shots of the PowerShot G7 X Mark III images, you’ll see his name in the top left corner of the LCD.

You check out Breccia on YouTube telling us to search Google for the Canon G7 X Mark III and “text me in the comment if you find something… suspicious.”

Apparently he does these sorts of things to try and secure some sort of design work or perhaps increase those YouTube followers.

All of this rumor business is supposed to be fun, and after all the comments I received about the renders, I think a lot of fun and excitement was had, even if it didn’t last long. We’re not at all sour towards Breccia, we just wish the camera was actually real. It was a well done hoax that fooled some of us for a time and will actually make us look closer at leaked images in the future.

Thanks Riky

Birdsasart migrates to Nikon

Jack Douglas has alerted us to Art Morris switching to Nikon

“As many have surmised, I am — after 34 1/2 years of using Canon gear, after about 18 years as a Canon Explorer of Light (not many know that I was fired from that role about four years ago), and after 17 years of using Canon digital gear, switching to Nikon. If you do lots of flight photography, you should switch too. If not, I far prefer my Canon gear. Some of the AF stuff with Nikon — such as switching the AF patterns — is horrifically designed. But if you want sharp images of birds in flight then you should/will switch to Nikon. The funny thing is that I recently figured out — with help from Arash Hazeghi — how to make the most of the AF systems of my 5D Mark IV bodies and especially with my newly replaced EOS-1DX II. But for birds in flight Nikon is light years ahead. After 30 seconds of working with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens and the blazingly fast professional digital camera body, the Nikon D5 DSLR camera body with dual XQD slots), I was pretty sure that I was gonna switch even before I saw the images. To make sure that I not was crazy, I had Patrick Sparkman try out the Nikon rig. After one bird flew by he said, “I am switching.””

http://www.birdsasart-blog.com/2018/01/23/this-just-in-internet-experts-state-that-the-nikon-200-500-1-4x-tc-14e-iii-d5-combo-is-not-sharp/

The new Nikon D850 and D500 are awesome. The problem is having a hand-held telephoto to go with them. Art, however, goes overboard in praise of the Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6. I took a keen interest in the 200-500mm and have read dozens of reviews. The consensus is that the lens is tack sharp close up but softer at long distances and it is slow focusing. It’s on a par with the old Tamron 150-600mm. You can read comments on Art’s blog about the distance fall off of sharpness and the focusing.speed.

A really in-depth review that sums up the consensus is in https://photographylife.com/nikon-200-500mm-vs-tamron-150-600mm-vs-sigma-150-600mm-c

“Niki is razor sharp at 500 mm and near minimum focusing distance. “…“At infinity, it’s another story altogether with Niki showing noticeable softness, especially in the corners at all focal lengths but more so at longer focal lengths.”
“When it comes to sharpness, Sigi had good center sharpness from near to far and through the range of focal lengths. Corners are noticeably soft in long distance shots at all focal lengths."

“Of the three lenses I feel Tami has the best balance of near to far and corner-to-corner sharpness at all focal lengths.”
“When it comes to AF speed, Tami and Sigi are both quick and in the field I can’t distinguish a difference when they are focusing on a static subject. Racking focus from 10 feet to infinity takes the same amount of time. Niki is noticeably slower than both Tami and Sigi. I give Tami the slight edge over Niki in AF performance on static subjects just because Tami is a bit faster.”

Other reviewers also recommend the Tamron over the Nikkor. And the new G2 Tamron is an improvement over the old 150-600mm.

I am not migrating to Nikon if the best lens available is a Tamron 150-600mm or its near-equivalent! My 400mm f/4 DO II has blazingly fast and accurate focus on the 5DIV, as well as being tack sharp corner to corner, and has given me consistently good birds in flight photos. If Nikkor could bring out a similar lens, then maybe I would consider it. By that time, however, Canon should have leapfrogged Nikon. In any case, for shots in good light, the Canon lenses on the 5DSR are difficult to beat for IQ.

The Canon EOS 90D is Coming Later in 2018 [CR2]

HTML:
While we’ve tried to confirm without any doubt that the EOS 7D Mark III is not coming in 2018, we haven’t done so yet. However, we’re 80% sure that’ll be the case.

The first APS-C DSLR cameras will be three new Rebels next month ahead of CP+. Why are there three Rebels coming? We’re thinking each one must have a specific focus, because that is a lot of Rebels in the series, a series that continues to drop in sales.

We’re told that an EOS 80D replacement is currently marked for the second half of 2018. The EOS 90D will show “further separation from the EOS 77D” . The 90D will receive an all-new sensor to the lineup once it is announced, so that tells us it won’t share a sensor with the upcoming Rebel’s or EOS M50. The camera will also have a new version of DPAF, but we’re not sure if it will be the first camera in the lineup to receive it. There is no mention of the mythical “4K” capability and we don’t want to guess either way.

Beyond that, we’re too far out to have any real idea of how the camera will be specced out.

The 2018 roadmap isn’t in focus at all yet, and we seem to be receiving an increase in vague and conflicting information. We’re instead waiting for some confirmation from folks we trust and that have a good track record.

Patent: Multi Level Sensor With Photo-Luminescent Component

HTML:
Northlight Images has uncovered another multi layer sensor patent from the USPTO. This one seems to show a layer of the sensor that actually emits light.

Northlight translation of the image below:

Light comes in through a conventional colour filter and reaches the first conversion layer, where some of it is converted to electrons. Some light goes clean through and reaches a PL (photo-luminescent) layer where some is absorbed and re-emitted (at a different colour). This re-emitted light is detected by a second conversion layer.

OK, so I’ve got two output signals for each pixel – what advantage does this give? By careful choice of the compounds used (organic and inorganic) for photon detection and photon emission layers it is possible to significantly increase the dynamic range of the pixel as a whole.

For the full breakdown of this one, please visit Northlight Images.

DJI Introduces Mavic Air For Limitless Exploration Wherever Adventure Takes You

HTML:
The Most Portable 3-Axis Gimbal 4K Camera Drone Features SmartCapture, FlightAutonomy 2.0 And Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems

January 23, 2018 – DJI, the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, today introduced Mavic Air, an ultra-portable, foldable camera drone that delivers higher performance, more intelligent features and greater creative possibilities than any other consumer drone. Developed with the traveler and outdoor enthusiast in mind, Mavic Air inherits the best features of DJI’s iconic Mavic series with a 4K camera for superior image quality, new QuickShot modes and SmartCapture for easier, more intelligent photo and video capturing, and FlightAutonomy 2.0 with Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems for smarter, safer flight. A marvel of engineering and design, Mavic Air enables limitless exploration wherever adventure takes you.

“When DJI introduced the Mavic Pro, it reinvented what a consumer drone could be: powerful, yet portable, accessible, but advanced,” said Roger Luo, President at DJI. “Today, with the introduction of Mavic Air, we have pushed these attributes to the next level to create our best consumer drone yet.”

Preorder the DJI Mavic Air at B&H Photo

Designed for Portability and Power

Weighing just 430 grams, Mavic Air is the most portable DJI drone ever created. Its folding arms and propellers sit flush against its slender aerodynamic frame, making it so compact that its footprint is nearly the size of a modern smartphone when folded.

Every aspect of Mavic Air’s camera has been designed for maximum performance. Its recessed three-axis mechanical gimbal is suspended from dampeners to further reduce vibration providing superior protection and steadier shots. A powerful camera housing a 1/2.3” CMOS sensor and the equivalent of a 24mm F2.8 lens (on a 35mm full frame sensor) captures high-quality photos and videos.

Mavic Air photographs crisp 12-megapixel still images utilizing new HDR algorithms that preserve more highlight and low light details, allowing you to capture stunning aerial pictures from sunrise to sunset. It also shoots smooth stabilized 4K video at 30 fps, capturing the highest quality video of any DJI consumer drone with a maximum bitrate of 100 Mbps. Preserving the action in dramatic fast-paced scenes is now possible through its ability to shoot 1080p slow-motion video at 120 fps.

Mavic Air is DJI’s first drone with 8 GB of onboard storage letting you save photos and videos directly to the aircraft on the go, plus a microSD card slot for additional storage capacity. The newly added USB-C port makes exporting captured footage easy and fast.

Expand Your Creativity

Mavic Air’s intelligent camera system creates new possibilities for anyone regardless of their photography and drone piloting experience. Photo enthusiasts who want to capture their surroundings in complete detail can use the new Sphere panorama feature to automatically shoot and stitch together 25 photos, creating a crystal-clear 32-megapixel panoramic image within one minute. Mavic Air also supports multiple panorama modes, creating horizontal, vertical, and 180-degree images.

QuickShot intelligent video modes make creating professional videos fun and easy with predefined flight paths that automatically keep your subject in the frame. Use Rocket, Dronie, Circle, or Helix plus two new modes Asteroid and Boomerang, to effortlessly create videos that once required significant piloting skills and sophisticated editing software. Asteroid starts with a spherical image that zooms in as it descends toward the subject on the ground, while Boomerang circles the subject in an oval-shaped flight path with the video finishing at the start point.

Mavic Air’s ActiveTrack intelligent flight mode has been improved to automatically sense multiple subjects, following your subject and keeping it in the frame with more precision, especially during high motion activities like running and cycling.

Powered by machine learning technology, SmartCapture[1] is an ultra-responsive control mode that makes shooting photos and videos effortless. With a maximum range of up to 20 ft (6 meters), you can give hand gesture commands to launch, follow, photograph, record, push, pull and land, letting you capture the moment from any angle without the need for a remote controller.

Smarter, Safer Flight

More powerful computing capabilities and optimized algorithms help Mavic Air fly smarter and safer through obstacles and terrain. FlightAutonomy 2.0 processes data gathered from seven onboard cameras and infrared sensors to construct a 3D map of its environment for more precise hovering and better flight performance. The improved forward and backward dual camera vision systems can sense obstacles up to 66 feet (20 meters) away. To help navigate through more complex outdoor environments, Mavic Air has newly developed Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems that helps pilots avoid and bypass obstacles automatically, providing an extra layer of reassurance during flight.

Mavic Air has a maximum flight time of up to 21 minutes. It can fly stably in windy conditions of up to 22 mph (36 kph) and at high elevations of up to 16,404 ft (5,000 m) above sea level[2]. Mavic Air’s remote is the first to feature detachable control sticks that can be stored inside the remote controller for added portability. Its omnidirectional antennas placed on the foldable landing gear help increase signal coverage to deliver a maximum range of up to 2.5 miles (4km)[3] with 1080p real-time video transmission when flying with the remote controller. When in Sport mode, Mavic Air flies at exhilarating speeds of up to 42 mph (68 kph) and is compatible with DJI Goggles for an immersive FPV flight experience.

Price and Availability

Mavic Air will be available in three colors: Onyx Black, Arctic White and Flame Red. The US retail price including the drone, battery, remote controller, carrying case, two pairs of propeller guards and four pairs of propellers, is $799 USD. The Mavic Air Fly More Combo includes the drone, three batteries, a remote controller, a travel bag, two pairs of propeller guards, six pairs of propellers, a battery to power bank adapter and battery charging hub, for $999 USD.

Starting today, Mavic Air will be available for pre-order at store.dji.com, the four DJI Flagship Stores and authorized dealers. Pre-orders will start shipping on January 28. What a Full Frame Canon Mirrorless Needs To Have To Be Successful

HTML:
Beyond Canon’s stellar brand loyalty and brand power, there are a few things that a full frame Canon mirrorless absolutely needs to be successful.

Fstoppers posted an article today outlining what they think it needs, and it pretty much mirrors (doh) what I’ve been saying for the last year or so.

A native EF mount

The Canon EF lens lineup is the best in the business. No other camera manufacturer has the breadth and depth of lenses, nor the manufacturing power to churn out amazing glass time and time again. This is Canon’s biggest advantage over other manufacturers and will ensure they take the #1 spot in mirrorless camera sales without much marketing effort.

This is where I think Nikon is going to make a massive mistake if they really do require you to need an adapter to fit F mount glass.

No adapters!

I hate adapters, and I even hate teleconverters. Any extra thingy I have to worry about to use gear is a non starter for me. If I think I have to add a teleconverter to a 500mm lens, then I’ll buy a 600mm lens. Thanks to Canon for the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS 1.4x.

Lens adapters are to solve a unique problem, and I don’t mind them if I really have a need to use an FD lens or a Nikon lens on my Canon camera. But if I’m using a modern Canon lens, it better fit without an adapter on my modern Canon camera.

Adapters are lazy.

Size and weight?

Is this really why we want mirrorless cameras? I’d argue going too small is actually bad for usability when attaching larger, heavy lenses. Attach a Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II to a Sony A7R with an adapter. It’s all sorts of awkward to shoot with and you get odd fatigue in your hands, wrist and forearms. If you’re adding a battery grip to your mirroless camera, then you’re already admitting you don’t care about size and to some degree, weight.

If you remove the mirror and shutter assembly, you’re going to naturally reduce weight.

Here’s something for you, a Canon EOS Rebel SL2 weighs less than a Sony A7R with a mirror and shutter assembly. Yes, the build quality is different, but I’m sure Canon can come up with something to make a camera with their great durability and amazing weather sealing.

EVF

The EVF has to be the best in the business. Period. No skimping on parts and manufacturing here Canon.

It’s rare I give my opinion on gear, but I’m actually quite opinionated on what Canon needs to do with a full frame professional mirrorless camera.

Head over to FStoppers to read their take, as well as Canon News for their take.

Patent: Organic Image Sensor Ideas

HTML:
Canon continues to provide R&D resources into organic image sensors. Panasonic and Fujifilm are also putting resources into this technology and may actually be ahead of Canon with working examples of organic sensors.

Canon News breaks down Japan Patent Application 2018-011037:

This patent application deals with the thermal noise at the time of reset, and when that is improves has the effect of improving dynamic range by increasing the efficiency of conversion.

Organic sensors could very well be the “next big thing” to hit ILC’s as most our cameras have entered into diminishing returns for improvements.

The good news with all of these new sensor patent applications is I’m actually starting to understand them. My culinary background hasn’t been a great tool in that regard.

Patent: Stacked Sensor Patents Continue to Stack Up

HTML:
Canon continues to apply for patents for stacked sensors. With the number that we’ve seen over the last few months, I think it’s safe to say something is coming in the not-so-distant-future.

Canon News breaks down Japan Patent Application 2018-7000:

This patent revolves around having the ADC on the second underneath layer and only the photodiodes on the top layer and eleviating cross talk between pixels. The underside layer is much larger than the sensor layer, whcih my assumption is that this lessons noise, heat and interferance between layers.

Stacked sensors can offer both dynamic range and noise benefits if done well, and also processing speed improvements. They can also offer other benefits such as global shutter and high speed video applications.

Canon News breaks down Japan Patent Application 2018-7101:

We have also discovered another stacked sensor patent application….. which deals with reducing the power consumption by a stacked sensor design.

As you can imagine, the more you stuff on the stacked sensor, the more power it consumes. Power is changed to waste heat. Heat is bad. Bad makes for bad sensors. :)

When we’ll see this sort of sensor appear in a Canon product is a mystery, but I think more obvious innovation in sensors is coming from Canon.

Just a heads up, we’ve created a Patent Board on the forum. Why I didn’t do this eons ago is a mystery.

Is a Super35 Mirrorless Camera Coming?

HTML:
We’re throwing the idea of a Super35 sensor equipped mirrorless camera (form factor) out there, not based on an actual source telling us such a product is coming, but on some clues we’ve seen over the last little while.

First up, we’ve been told that a replacement to a current Cinema EOS camera is coming for NAB 2018 in April. We’ve also been told that a non “Cinema EOS” camera is coming as well. We thought perhaps an ILC version of the XC15 or maybe something else, like a Super35 sensor mirrorless camera.

There is also the invitation we were told about last week in regards to a new mirrorless camera. We were told that the sensor area of the camera was cut out of the invitation, suggesting that the sensor was the interesting part of the camera. We know for a fact that no full frame camera is coming soon. We also don’t believe a camera between the EOS M6 and EOS M100 would garner any sort of clandestine presentation to higher up people in retail. Perhaps the invite is for a development announcement or its that second camera that will appear at NAB in 2018. Please keep in mind that we have no visual confirmation of this invitation.

We have seen patents for EF mount lenses for a Super35 sensor equipped camera that isn’t the standard Cinema EOS form factor.

We’ve been told that Canon’s next mirrorless camera would have 4K. Now there could be some confusion here with sources. The EOS M50 might not be that “next” camera, but maybe the sources actually mean an NAB mirrorless camera will be the first with 4K. I doubt the EOS M50 would get 4K, as that would pretty much kill the EOS M5 and M6 in my opinion. We do know that Canon is going to align the EOS M model numbers like the DSLRs. EOS Mx, EOS Mxx and EOS Mxxx. I believe the EOS M50 will be a short run camera until the new 4K able APS-C sensors are ready and the entire line gets replaced.

Please keep in mind that none of the above is a guarantee that a Super35 mirrorless is coming, consider this more of a hypothesis. There is however a lot of things pointing to something new from Canon.

We may also just get an APS-C video oriented mirrorless camera. I don’t think Canon believes you can make a truly great video camera and a truly great stills camera in one product.

Frequency of EF 24-105/4 L error 01

I've been very happy with my 24-105/4 L since I bought it for my 5D to replace the very soft 28-135 that I had since film days. It then graced my 5DII and 6D and now provides very sharp images on my 5DsR. It must be 8 or 9 years old.

Today the red "L" ring broke - no big deal, but it made me wonder how frequent is the failure of the cable that actuates the diaphragm blades on this lens. This is the failure that causes the "Err 01" message and means the camera can only operate at 24mm and f/4. I am less concerned about the cost to have the lens repaired (I have got more than my value back on this lens) than the failure leaving me without a working lens. When I take critical photos (e.g. weddings), I always have back-up lenses and a back-up body. However, the 24-105/4 L is an almost ideal FF hiking lens and normally it would be my only lens on a hike.

The internet is (of course!) full of horror stories about this lens failing. But how frequent is the problem? And would replacing the cable / diaphragm unit reduce the risk of future failure?

Thanks

6D Slightly Struggling with Sports

Not that it's a deal-breaker, but my first "sports" outing with the 6D was a slight struggle. My 70D was fairly seamless. Going through the pics and there's some really good ones with a photographic quality that's superior to that of my old 70D.
Not that I need to achieve "gear" perfection, but how might the 6D compare to a 6DII, 80D or 7DII for outdoor sports? Used Continuous Shooting today, too, which was a bit rough, but a better Continuous Shooter would yield a ton more pics to go through which would also be rough so I think I'm going back to Single Shooting - Got 1400+ shots today and selecting the keepers is going to be a thing. Fewer might be better.
I used my 135 2.0 today and 200 2.8 and 85 1.8 in the past with the 70D; with a 300 4.0 IS on the current Wish List.
Thanks for any insight including to not worry about it.

New EF-M Prime Lens Pushed Later Into 2018 [CR3]

HTML:
We’re told that the rumoured new EF-M prime lens that was expected in March for CP+ has been pushed back until later in 2018. Unfortunately we still don’t have [CR3] confirmation of the focal length and aperture yet.

It’s not unusual for lens announcements to get pushed back. We’ve seen it with the EF 11-24mm f/4L, the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III and the EF 85 f/1.4L IS and likely others we’re unaware of.

500 f4 L IS USM MK1

I found a 500 F4 L IS USM (Mk1) to euro3700 in excellent condition (with original plastic box and cover camo)
Is it a good lens?
I think this is the right choice especially by fitting it on EOS6D + 1,4III (becomes 5.6 and operates the autofocus)
The front/rear lenses are very clean, No powder inside and the paint is A++
I know that is heavy but I use it for photos from positioning.

Or should look for a MK2 used ?
The price difference is worth all the technical improvements of MK2?
I would like the opinion of those who have used them all and two, thanks

No Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III Coming Ahead of CP+ in March [CR3]

HTML:
We’ve now been told by two people we trust that there is no PowerShot G7 X Mark III coming in the immediate future (ahead of CP+).

Both sources said a new G series camera was coming, but later on in 2018.

Does that mean the PowerShot G7 X Mark III images are fakes? I think this information tips it that way.

Again, these are the greatest fakes of a Canon camera I have ever seen. I’d like the person who made them to drop us a line.

You can still disagree with us and vote in our poll.

UPDATED (CONFIRMED FAKE): Lots of Questions About the Alleged PowerShot G7 X Mark III Images

HTML:
*UPDATE* I think we can file these images under the “fake” category without any doubt. Rumors.camera (via PetaPixel) has uncovered where the photos on the LCD screen of the camera came from.

It looks like Unsplash strikes again as both images on the rear of the camera come from the site. You can see each image below as well as on Unsplash here and here.

You’ll also notice on the wing of the plane that a KLM logo is easily visible and no manufacturer would put someone else’s logo in a promotional shot. The image is also shot on a Panasonic DMC-GX85.

It the future, it looks like I will have to dig a little deeper before I post leaked images from new sources. This is no slight to Photo Rumors or anyone else that believed or wanted to believe that these photos were real. It is the best faked image we may have ever seen.

Thanks to all the sleuths out there who did the dirty work in figuring all of this out.

We also confirmed that there will be no PowerShot G7 X Mark III coming ahead of CP+, but that there will be a new G series camera later on in 2018.

What I will add is that I haven’t seen this level of excitement for a Canon camera, not just a compact in a long, long time.

Every camera enthusiast around has already gone over the three “leaked” images of a Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III. A lot of people think they’re fake, a lot of people WANT them to be real and others aren’t sure.

We’ve noticed a couple of things that give us pause.

The whole design is completely new for Canon, we generally don’t see changes this big so quickly.

The “MarkIII” on the tilt screen is completely out of place.

The font on the from of the lens is different colors, the “mm”, “x2 IS” and “-” aren’t white.

[socialpoll id=”2482861″ path=”/polls/2482861″ fif=”false” width=”728″]

Canon News shares their thoughts

Powershot is not mentioned anywhere on the camera. Every powershot has powershot written on it somewhere

There’s no microphone holes

The top dial doesn’t have EC on it, which means that canon is actually removing the EC dial from the G7X Mark III.

There’s no flash switch to pop out the flash (even though looking from the top it appears like it has a flash)

The buttons don’t look “canon-like”. The icons don’t match canon “standard icons”.

There’s no record button.

There’s no click / smooth button for the dial around the lens.

The video images show 120 minutes and 60 minutes which would classify this as a video camera and not a stills camera for European import taxation. This won’t happen.

There’s no sensor on the front of the camera for the infrared remote trigger. Every Canon has that.

no PASM dial

No quick menu / SET button

We put the images through our standard PhotoShop curves testing we do on mockups and have found consistencies between these images and official Canon product photos.

If this is a fake, it’s the best fake of a camera we have ever seen. They’re usually very easy to spot with some PhotoShop curves work. It would also be the first time someone has faked a compact camera. A DSLR, a lens or a Mirrorless we’ve seen numerous times, but I don’t recall a PowerShot being faked.

Is it possible this is an early design rendering from Canon that is not yet complete? That’s possible, although it would be the first 3D design rendering we’ve ever seen.

I’ll know very soon if the PowerShot G7 X Mark III is indeed around the corner, which should help in authenticating these images.

the 6D original camera, should it be in everyone's kit?

I have a gear problem and I know , but at the end of the day I don't think I would ever sell my 6D. It's perfect at family events, it's perfect at weddings, portraits. Focusing in low light is no problem. Amazing useful ISO range and best of all it's cheap, cheap, cheap! Does everyone need one as a second camera? It's no wonder can didn't make it even better with the 6D mark II. It's not canons best camera but is it the best camera to round out your kit?

Advice 16-35 f2.8 version 2(not 3) vs 16-35 f4 IS

Several months ago I picked up a used copy of the 17-40 f4L, my first ultra wide lens. It is fine but corner sharpness is bad, which I somewhat expected. I will likely replace with a 16-35L.

I cannot afford the new version 3 of the 16-35 f2.8 (as stellar as it reportedly is). I will have to choose between a used version 2 of the f2.8 or a new f4 IS (both sell for around a thousand bucks).

I know from reviews the f4 is better optically in the corners and I will likely go that way, though I would love f2.8. I am wondering if anyone has experience using both the version 2 of 16-35 f2.8 and the 17-40 f4 that I have now. Are they the same optically (especially in corners) or is the version 2 f2.8 better?

 • Poll Poll
Speed of introducing new high end cameras

Nikon tends to introduce high end bodies with smaller, incremental changes.

 • Canon should follow this path, an have more frequent introductions of high end cameras

 • Canon timing of introduces is just fine.

 • Canon should hold out longer for some really big changes

Of course I could be wrong about now frequently Nikon introduces new high products.

Canon and NIkon are in lock step on the 1Dx/D5 series.

Nikon has introduced the D800, D810, and D850 while Canon has introduced the 5D M3 and 5D M4

I think that Nikon has 1 more iteration of their high end cropped sensor camera.
