Canon To Announce a New Color Rebel T6?

HTML:
An image has appeared at Digicame-Info that appears to show a new color scheme for the Rebel Kiss X80 (T6). As you can see the camera is silver with a brown grip.

We’re not sure if this will be a global release or limited to specific markets. I will admit, I have yet to meet anyone that desired a brown gripped silver Canon DSLR.

Thinking about upgrading my 1DX to the MK2

So I've been using two 1DX cameras for the past year now, I love the camera and for the outdoor adventure photography I do it's been a perfect camera, but with the mark 2 out for a while now I was thinking of selling one of them as well as maybe my a7mk2 for the new 1DX mk2.

To those of you who upgraded from the mk1 to the mk2 how was the switch p, and do you think it's worth upgrading? The only reason I'm thinking of even doing it is because I bought the 1DX for around 3000 euros and I think I could still get at least that hopefully.

Let me know what you guys think

Leica Announces the TL System

HTML:
The new camera system impresses with perfected features, unique design, precise, high-performance lenses and a range of functional accessories and technical equipment.

Wetzlar, 8 November 2016. Building on the Leica T camera system, which has been continually advanced in terms speed, ease of handling and flexibility since its launch in 2014, the Leica TL embraces all the perfected features and leads the innovative camera concept into a new generation with even more innovations and new aspects of its design. One of these innovations is the doubling of the size of its internal buffer memory to 32 GB. Other new features are improved autofocus, especially in AF-C mode, and optimised compatibility with lenses from other Leica camera systems. For instance, the Leica TL now supports SL-Lenses with OIS and allows the use of Leica R-System lenses in combination with the R-Adapter L. A new Leica TL app with revised functions offers additional options for sharing pictures by email or on social networks and is now available for the first time for Android as well as iOS devices.

The Leica TL will in available in three colour options from the date of launch: the silver and black versions are identical in design and construction, while the titanium-coloured option is distinguished by a bevelled edge (chamfer) to the top and bottom plates. Functional camera accessories, such as the new high-quality protectors in Nappa leather, which can stay on the camera when changing the battery, and colour-coordinated carrying straps in stone-grey, black, red and cemento, round off the TL system portfolio.

In combination with its high-performance image processor, the large, APS-C-format, CMOS image sensor of the Leica TL guarantees exceptional imaging quality and delivers brilliant pictures with outstanding contrast, finest detail resolution and natural colour rendition – even in unfavourable lighting conditions.

The comprehensive portfolio of lenses for the Leica TL offers an ideal range of focal lengths for all situations and types of photography. The TL-System currently comprises six lenses – three prime lenses and three zooms – that meet the needs of every photographic situation. The two fast prime lenses, the Leica Summicron-TL 23 mm f/2 ASPH. and the Summilux-TL 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH., are classic focal lengths for reportage photography, and the APOMacro-Elmarit-TL 60 mm f/2.8 ASPH. complements them ideally as a lens for finely detailed close-up photography. The three compact zoom lenses, the Leica Super-VarioElmar-TL 11–23 mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH., Vario-Elmar-TL 18–56 mm f/3.5–5.6 ASPH. and APO-Vario-Elmar-TL 55–135 mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH., cover an entire range of focal lengths equivalent to 17 to 200 mm in 35 mm format and deliver outstanding images with rich contrast from corner to corner of the frame.

All Leica TL-Lenses impress with exceptional imaging performance at all distances from their close focusing limits to infinity and deliver pictures with the inimitable ‘Leica look’ and unique bokeh. Developed by optical design specialists in Wetzlar, they offer the exceptional imaging performance for which Leica lenses are famed. The combination of optical and precision engineering expertise and the use of finest materials in their construction ensures their constant quality and reliability in use.

Thanks to the L-Bayonet mount shared by the Leica TL and SL cameras, SL-Lenses can also be used without an adapter on the Leica TL. With this, Leica once again carries forward its fundamental principles of cross-system compatibility and sustainability, which is now also reflected in a uniform product designation. Appropriate adapters are also available for using Leica M and R lenses on the camera.

The particular trademark of the Leica TL is the unusual design of its extremely compact body. Each camera body is precisely machined from a single block of aluminium in the Leica factory. The use of premium materials and their processing in an elaborate manufacturing process are unique in the history of camera construction and lend the Leica TL-Camera an unmistakeable look, feel and solidity.

The handling concept of the Leica TL is clearly structured, intuitive to use and concentrates only on relevant functions. The ‘control centre’ of this concept is its clearly laid out, 3.7- inch touchscreen display. It is generously dimensioned and generates a bright and clear image that allows precise and reliable assessment during subject composition and in playback mode. Numerous functions in capture and playback mode can be controlled simply by touching the screen. The only other controls are four ergonomically positioned haptic control elements that are intuitive in their operation. This ensures that camera users can concentrate fully on composing their pictures – without any unnecessary distractions. The freely configurable MyCamera menu of the Leica TL offers even greater flexibility, even in spontaneous snapshot situations. This means that the photographer always has fast access to the most frequently used features and personalised presets.

Thanks to its integrated WiFi module and the function for setting up its own mobile hotspot, the Leica TL can conveniently transfer stills and videos by WLAN to smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktop PCs from almost anywhere and allows users to share their pictures and films by email, on Facebook or in other social networks. A free Leica TL app for iOS and Android devices is available with the release of the camera. A particularly practical feature of the app is the remote function. This lets users connect a smartphone or tablet to the camera by WLAN as an electronic viewfinder for the Leica TL and offers remote control of shutter speed and aperture settings – for example for shots with the self-timer or from unusual angles.

CMOSIS Announces New 48mp CMOS Sensor

HTML:
CMOSIS, the sensor supplier for the Leica M Typ 240 has announced a new 48mp full frame image sensor.

PREMSTAETTEN, Austria–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CMOSIS a member of the ams AG (SIX: AMS) group, a leading provider of high performance sensors and analog ICs, today launched the CMV50000, an industry first global shutter CMOS image sensor offering high resolution of 48Mpixels, more than twice the resolution of its previous generation CMOSIS global shutter CMOS image sensors.

The CMV50000 is a medium format 48Mpixels sensor with 7920 x 6002 4.6-µm sized pixels using the patented 8-transistor pixel architecture to offer low noise and excellent electronic shutter efficiency. Global shutter operation means, that images of fast-moving objects can be captured without distortion.

Its pixel offers 64dB optical dynamic range at full resolution and up to 68dB in subsampled 4k mode, and the imagers benefits from the implementation of sophisticated new, on-chip noise-reduction circuitry such as black level clamping to enable it to capture high quality images under low-light conditions.

Operating at a fast 30 frames/s with 12 bit pixel depth at full resolution or a binned 4k mode, and at up to 60 frames/s with pixel subsampling to 4k resolution, the sensor is suitable for use in high-speed machine-vision systems, as well as in TV broadcasting and video cameras.

The CMV50000 provides detailed views of a large surface area required in factory automation applications such as automated optical inspection (AOI) systems and systems for the inspection of displays of mobile phones, tablets, laptops and TVs. The combination of high frame rate and high re-solution allows further increase of the already high throughput rates at consumer product assembly plants.

A High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode is supported by an odd/even row dual-exposure operation.

The CMV50000 is expected to replace high pixel-count charge-coupled device (CCD) image sensors used in machine-vision cameras and high-end security cameras. Compared to the older CCD sensor technology, CMOS image sensors are easier to integrate in camera designs, use less power, and can operate at much higher frame rates.

“The introduction of the 48Mpixel CMV50000 gives camera manufacturers the opportunity to enjoy the design and operating advantages of a CMOS image sensor while gaining the ultra-high resolution, which has previously only been available through the use of CCD sensors”, said Wim Wuyts, Marketing Manager for image sensors at ams.

“The CMV50000’s advanced noise-reduction features such as black level clamping combined with its high optical dynamic range, results in high picture quality at full operation speed without the need for complex analog output matching required for multi-tap CCD image sensors and therefore also decreases the camera development time significantly.”

The monochrome version of the CMV50000 is sampling now. The color version will be available for sampling by the end of 2016. Unit pricing is €3,450.

Building my own lens Mine's Bigger than Yours

I wanted a large aperture lens, so my first task was to find out how large of a front element I could find. This one is about 14 inches across, and actually consists of two elements.

Great Start eh, and only $200.

I will post more info about it when I get time, it has quite a history.

Billy the Clown (Short film shot on C100 and Tamron 45mm VC)

Hey guys!
Recently made this short film for halloween but could not edit it on time due to other commitments :/ but hey, better late than never!

It was my first time shooting on a Canon C100 (prev. used 5D Mark ii), and my god, it's sharp. So sharp paired with the Tamron 45mm VC. And the dynamic range, low light (most shots are at ISO 1600), just.. Amazing. Have a look for yourself! The one thing that wasn't so nice was the crop factor - got too used to the full frame!

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wdwjwNf9-w

The short film looks at the life of an everyday creepy/killer clown. With all the clown sightings recently, I wanted to explore the other side of the story and just how ridiculous it is for one to go through all the trouble and wait such a long time, just for a scare/laugh. Ridiculous. Also wanted to explore what makes one person hang onto something and the growth/letting go of someone/something... You'll see.

Love to know what you think guys! Check out the Behind the Scenes too if you wanna see how it was made :)
Eugene

Magic Lantern Cracks the EOS 5D Mark IV

HTML:

It looks like the intuitive folks at Magic Lantern have cracked the EOS 5D Mark IV and will begin work on adding features for a possible future firmware release.

Keep in mind that reverse engineering of this kind is very difficult work, and we may not see any releases for the EOS 5D Mark IV for quite some time, but it’s nice to know they’re working on it.

Canon EOS Rebel T7's are Next on the DSLR Schedule [CR2]

HTML:

We’re told that the next DSLR(s) from Canon will be replacement for the EOS Rebel T6s and EOS Rebel T6i. There is currently no information or apparent plans for a direct replacement for the EOS Rebel Sl1.

While specifications are unknown at present, we’re told that the new Rebels will launch in a “unique way”, we’re hoping to hear soon what that means. We also don’t know if both the EOS Rebel T6s and EOS Rebel T6i will get direct replacements when the T7 series cameras come.

It’s our understanding that the big drop in Canon DSLR shipments have mainly been due to significant drops in Rebel series sales, 5 years ago you couldn’t keep them on the shelf at Christmas time, those times are long gone.

I suspect we’ll see the new Rebels at CES in January or CP+ in February.

More to come…

A Bit More About the EOS 6D Mark II [CR2]

HTML:

We’ve been able to confirm from a couple of more sources that the Canon EOS 6D Mark II isn’t scheduled to be announced until Q2 of 2017 at the earliest. Originally we hypothesized that we could see the new camera announced at CP+ in February, but that looks to not be the case.

Expect to see the Canon EOS 6D Mark II to be announced after NAB 2017 in April.

Canon has published a patent for focus peaking, a feature some feel has been omitted from Canon DSLRs in live view mode. You can get focus peaking in a Canon DSLRs if you use magic lantern.

Patent Publication No. 2016-158106 (Google Translated)

Published 2016.9.1

Filing date 2015.2.24

To get the distance information of the object

To generate a waveform image showing the degree of focusing of the object based on the high-frequency component

To vary the color of the waveform

Wouldn’t it be nice if this could be added to the EOS 5D Mark IV via firmware?

Canon Germany Winter Promotion 2016 - from Nov. 1st to Jan. 31st

So finally on Nov. 4th the annual Winter Promotion has appeared on the German Canon Website.
This is ::) because it starts from Nov. 1st and lasts until to Jan. 31st. ;)

You can choose between up to 180€ cash back or up to 300 € credit/deposit for buying another product within that time.

For details look here:
http://www.canon.de/for_home/promotions/

Note:
There is still a "EOS plus X" promotion running in parallel until to Jan. 31st that looks more attractive to me, if you're looking for a new body plus lens.

Enjoy your GAS ;)

PS.:
Something I recognize:
 • While Canon rises the (MRSP) prices the cash back/deposit value is getting lower and lower ???
 • There are fewer and fewer prime lenses included lenses :(

The CD in the lens box

Why do I always get a CD in the box containing a lens from Canon? It's black and it says "EF lens" on it, and also "Ver. 4.1."

I've never opened one. And yet my lenses still work? :o ;D

I'd be curious to know what it is, and what if any value it adds. I register my gear at Canon's website so if there are needed "downloads" (even then I don't really understand what those are for) I assume I can do it that way.

Any insight is appreciated. (Yes, obviously I am aware I could open it up finally and check it out ... but I think out of some vague sense of preserving potential resale value, coupled with my not understanding the benefit, makes me think it's better to leave it in its packaging.)
